Black Diamond Factor Hoody Review (Black, S)
I am genuinely impressed with the Black Diamond Factor Hoody. It's noticeably thicker than the Coefficient Hoodie, yet it remains surprisingly lightweight with a good amount of stretch, making it both comfortable and functional. One of the standout features for me is the logo on the chest; it's stylish and adds a nice touch to the overall design. I've used this hoody as a mid-layer under my Black Diamond Access Hoody as well as under my Recon Insulated Jacket, and in both scenarios, it performed flawlessly, providing the perfect balance of warmth and breathability. Overall, it's a great jacket for layering, offering both style and performance. Highly recommended!
Nice mid layer, wrong color shown for black/port
I just got this in black/port. The picture shows this color quite clearly as a brown. But when I received it, I thought there was a mixup. The black/port is, if anything, dark purple. (I get it "port" is purple. But the photo is not even close) Either the photographer really screwed up the color balance or there is some kind of other mixup going on with this color option. I'm not in love with the color, but can't return it. Get it together BD!! Otherwise, as a garmet, it's good. Fit is nice (medium on 165lb, 6ft) and slim. Could be a bit more trim on the midsection to waist. Only wishes are hidden thumb loops and a waist cinch.
my favorite hoody, bought a 2nd
I bought a 2nd Factor Hoody after wearing my first one almost daily for a year. I wear this when backpacking, hiking, bummin' around town, skiing... it's the perfect mid-layer. Someone told me this is BD's version of the R1... I can see that, but I like these a little better. I like that they're somewhat form-fitting. zippers are quality. Hood is snug enough to fit underneath a ski or climbing helmet and will keep your noggin warm on cool nights. Slept in this a couple times too. What more can I say
Versatile
I wore this fleece backpacking in the snow, and rain, as well as hiking, camping, and climbing in Utah. It is extremely comfortable, keeps you very warm, and is very stylish. This has hands down been the most comfortable jacket I have owned, and it keeps you warm on that chilly morning and evening. Highly recommend purely for comfort and style not to mention the warmth and versatility, can easily be paired with a nice baselayer as well as a puffy or rain jacket for extra warmth.
Big fan
Have worn this for two weeks straight in Patagonia, hiking, fishing, walking around town. Love the look, and functionality. Surprisingly warm, but I also run very hot. The hood is great to increase the warmth in windy conditions. I’m 6’, 190lbs with an athletic build and the Large fits well. Slightly tight in the arms and armpits, and is most comfortable with only a synthetic T shirt underneath. Would recommend. Waiting to see if it pills.
Great Material but fitting was not.
First off, the quality of the fleece is great. Love the colors as well. However, fit is made for tall skinny dudes. I'm average build, 5'6. The fleece is long, pass my buttocks. If you're like 5'8 and above with long torso, this fleece is for you.. Bought the medium size and no way will I exchange for one size up because then the sleeve and everything else will be super long. This fleece is definitely between a slim and regular.
Great Hoodie, warm and fits great
I have both the Coefficient and the Factor hoodie. They are very similar except the fit in the coefficient is more snug and that one doesn't have pockets. It makes for a really good mid layer. This one is a little looser and has pockets, but not thumbhole, so it's not as good a midlayer but does a lot better for regular wear. The color is great and it looks good. Both are warm and comfortable.
Great for climbing and around town
Have taken this hoody on a few climbing trips now and it’s just what I was missing. Fit seems true to size (I’m 5’9 155lbs -ordered small). Last climbing trip I went on the temps were in the low 50s and this along with a t shirt kept me plenty warm while I was moving. Pockets are accessible with a harness on and my helmet fit nicely over the hood. Would buy again!
Fantastic mid layer
I use this over my base layer while skinning/touring. It adds a layer of warmth but most importantly it breaths well and dried quickly. I’m 5’ 10, 155lbs, athletic body type and the medium fits well over my base layer and over the upper section of my bibs. If I wore it tighter or inside my bibs, a small would’ve been appropriate.
Just as expected
Fit, fabric weight, and functionality was just as expected. I am 5'-8" 140lbs and the small fits perfect for an inner layer or close layer on warm days. Hood fits perfectly under a helmet. When the hood is worn without a helmet it turns with my head so I never feel like I am having my view cut off.
