Do not buy the shoe if you have average medium wide feet or wider. The shoe has significant design flaws including the eyelet that digs into the big toe. Furthermore the laces that are provided with the shoes won't even go into the extra eyelids and lace up. I used to be a professional athlete and can't believe that a company like Merrill would put these shoes out as the top of the line shoe with those two design flaws. Also, I read all of the reviews before buying them and nobody mentioned these two issues I can't imagine that everybody who's writing the reviews only has narrow feet. My feet are average.
I bought these for the lower stack height, minimal drop and adequate toe width, they've met my needs. I seem less injury prone in low drop shoes with some arch support but "more than barefoot cushioning." I run mostly on roads but on a recent trip I did end up running on gravel and grass/dirt and wandering across some rocks (Acadia NP), grip has felt adequate on all dry surfaces (I haven't used them in the cold or rain yet). I'd buy more shoes with this stack height, drop and toe room.
It’s an awesome shoes. I ran 15ml right out from the box … Rocky terrain / steep uphills up and over. Perfect training for Speedgoat mountain race
I bought these because I loved the colors and love Merrell. Sadly they ran narrow and the material was rough and ungiving. It didn't flex or move when walking and dug into my feet. I was expecting a more comfortable giving and softer shoe material for trail running. Bummed I had to return because the color was amazing!
I've been thoroughly impressed with the Merrell MTL Skyfire 2 Matryx. These trail shoes strike the perfect balance between comfort and performance, especially for mountain climbing. The moment I put them on, I noticed how lightweight yet durable they felt. The Matryx upper provides an excellent fit—snug but breathable—which is crucial for long, demanding ascents. What really sets them apart is the combination of cushioning and stability. Even over rugged terrain and steep inclines, my feet felt supported and protected without sacrificing agility. The grip on loose or wet surfaces is outstanding, giving me the confidence to move quickly and safely in any condition. If you're looking for a comfortable, high-performance shoe for serious mountain adventures, the Skyfire 2 Matryx is an excellent choice. Merrell nailed it with this one.
Lightweight feel and ultimate comfort. No rubbing or blistering while shoes get “worked-in”. Very pleased. Bought a second pair, different color.
i love the colors on these shoes! they have a nice snug fit (more for a narrow-ish foot) combined with being super lightweight and grippy soles they are perfect for trail running. I especially like the tongue being connected so it always stays centered
Merrell‘s are my go to trail running shoes. They last longer than other brands, and they fit my low volume narrow feet with minimal break-in. Love the colors of this pair and they are ultra light. Very happy and highly recommend
I love these sneakers. They are super light, and amazing to run in. Light but stable and sticks like glue to all the trails ups and down! I may purchase another pair because these look and feel so wonderful!
The fit is great. The traction is amazing and I was so surprised how late they are.
