These are my second pair and by far my favorite pair of long-johns I've ever owned. They are super lightweight and ideal for touring in temperatures about 32° and below. My normal bibs that I wear for touring are non-insulated and these add just the perfect amount of warmth without getting me too hot on long tours. I bought my original pair 2020 and have Pulled them out of the trashcan twice, even though I had blown out the butt because I love them so much. I was super happy when I saw that black diamond was still making the exact same bass layer and just purchased my second pair earlier this month, allowing me to finally gear rid of the original pair.
I've had all of the base layers: polypro, capilene, other brands of wool. This is a pretty incredible midweight base layer and the best I've owned in 20+ years of outdoor adventuring and guiding. I always run cold and find these bottoms to be very warm. I took them on a bikerafting and packrafting expedition this summer, and they kept me comfortable at camp AND they didn't hold any odor. I'm 5'10" and 144 lbs, and the medium fits great. Looking forward to using these this winter in the backcountry!
These were way too small/tight even though I ordered the same size (xs) I have in BD leggings that fit me. The material doesn't stretch very well, so the tightness really has a negative impact. They're also shorter than full length, and I'm only 5'3". Can't really recommend these... Maybe I'd like them better in a bigger size?
These keep me warm when I hike in weather that's in the high teens and warmer. I only have to wear a heavier pair of hiking pants over them and I'm comfortable. I can't say how durable they are but they are well made. They haven't shrunk in the wash. I'm 5'3", 105-lbs. I bought size small, but should've bought xs.
I’m 5’9” and these seem somewhat shorter than what I was expecting. Since I mostly wear them while skiing I’m keeping because they are almost like capri for ski boots but for other activities I probably wouldn’t use them. Also they are a little scratchy, at least before the first wash.
I’m a ski patroller and I can work without these baselayer. It’s perfect for every temperature in a mountain. I’m always on my knees and all my oldest baselayers, brakes on the knees after à few day to work. But these don’t brake and hold on! Love them
Bought these for work, and they are amazingly warm. I purchased the L and possibly could have gone with the M because the waist is way too big, but the legs are pretty snug. But it was easy to take in the waistband and these are my go to on cold days.
Perfect base layer for alpine environment on a warmer day. Didn't stretch out after a week of daily wear and minimal odor. High waisted so covers it all throughout all ranges of motion. Can't recommend these enough! 5'5, 145lbs, purchased medium
I was initially worried that this wool baselayer would be itchy, I am sensitive to wool. This baselayer ended up working out perfectly and I wore it under my insulated snow pants and was good to go for a day on the slopes!
I have worn these once or twice to do light hiking in early winter. I look forward to trying them skiing this winter. I think they will do well except for those really cold, stormy days.
