Highly Recommend!!
These shoes required zero "breaking in" and are the comfiest shoes I own. No blisters or foot pain during two weeks of daily hikes. They clean up well after stepping in mud (or worse) and the waterproofing is quite good. I've even started wearing them for non-hiking purposes. They run small - I bough a whole size up to get a comfy fit.

Keep looking
These are not great shoes. I bought them in a pinch, and yes they are waterproof. My hips don't hurt, so they are supportive, but my feet feel weary after wearing them. The other thing to really watch out for, is although they are waterproof, the grip is pretty terrible. I use them every day for walking each dog, and if it is rainy, they are slick. I have almost fallen a couple of times.

Great hiking shoe, check the sizing.

I took a bit of a risk with these shoes, since I bought them just before doing some tough hikes in Phoenix. They exceeded my expectations. No blisters, no hotspots, no aching feet (common for me even with the best shoes) and they handled the gravel trails really well. Surprisingly breathable for a waterproof hiking shoe too. One thing I read in a lot of the reviews was that others needed to buy a full size up to have the shoe fit. I agree; I'm usually an 8.5, and a 9.5 fit me well. I would also recommend looking at the European sizing for these shoes if you're unsure of what to fit; I found those to be more accurate. I'm a 40 in European sizing normally, and I got a 40.5, which was great as it allowed me to comfortably put insoles in these shoes. Highly recommend these!

Fall hazard

The speed hooks on these boots are too large and too open. The laces from one shoe hooked on the other shoe TWICE. Luckily I wasn't in a spot where flying through the air meant death, but I shattered my knee so I get surgery instead of hiking this summer. Merrill needs to redesign the hooks and shorten their laces on all their boots.

So comfy!

These boots are the most comfortable hiking boots I have ever owned by far. They have no break in period and I comfortably wore them out of the box on a trip to Death Valley. For a waterproof pair of boots they do not make my feet too swampy. The unfinished edge on the tongue is a little strange, but it doesn't seem to affect the shoes at all. I don't expect these to last forever, but I already have put a couple hundred miles on them since I bought them this spring and they have held up well.

My favorite Hiking boots

Love these hiking shoes, wore them in Sedona Arizona and were so comfortable. I do have high arch in my foot but these feel like walking on a cloud. They are a little heavy but not to bad at all and I was able to still do long day hikes with no problems.

My first Merrell hiking boots

Comfortable right from the start. Good support yet light and truly waterproof. White and light green seemed crazy for a hiking shoe sole but they clean up easily. I get complements on them every time I wear them.

Comfortable out of the box, size up

Size up for this good hiker. Found on a sale rack, tried 1/2 size larger than my running shoe, was surprised with a good fit. Walked in them once before going on a 5 day trip with a lot of walking on shoreline rock. Comfortable with good grip on dry rock. Waterproof feature worked well.

Purchase true to size.

Ordered in a size 10 (my normal size is 9.5) based on previous reviews… and unfortunately they were too big. Plan to repurchase in my normal size! Love the look and quality of these boots.
