More than just a sandel
The sandals have nice traction "bars/cleats" on the Vibram soles and provide excellent traction unlike normal sandals. This allows you to wear under a variety of applications and terrain. I normally wear size 10.5 and the size 10 are a great fit. I think the straps are longer than, just starting to go beyond the Velcro. Very comfortable and cushioned, really like the textured sole which prevents your feet from sliding around.
Great sandal until the soles fell apart
I enjoyed these sandals for the first year, then unfortunately the soles began to separate making them hazardous on the trail after 2 years of light use. My previous pair of Tevas lasted 18 years of moderate, often heavy use, so this was a total letdown from a quality perspective.
Comfortable Sandal!
Fit: I normally wear a size 8.5 or 9, ordered the size 8 and had plenty of adjustment in the straps to keep my foot from slipping. With the straps set in place and my foot was very comfortable because the front and rear straps have a soft fabric that contacts the foot. The soles feel very well padded and kept my feet feeling great. The weight of the shoe is pretty good as well and I feel like I can walk in these for miles! The colors are nice and the shades of green work well with the maroon straps.
I might had defective pair...
I bought this sandal 2 years ago, I practically worn them 15 times and one of the sandals the glue is already coming off. I had another pair that's probably more than 4 years old and they are still fair to use. I don't recommend this product at all. Rei seems to think this is normal wear and tear.
Good sandals for light hiking in the wet
These shoes are good for doing some warm weather hiking where you're gonna get wet. The soles have moderately aggressive Vibram treads. The footbed is comfortable and has some arch support which is more than most sandals offer. Foot straps are supportive and comfortable thanks to neoprene liners on the inside of the straps.
Comfy, do everything sandals
I typically wear between and 11.5 and 12.5 shoe and the size 12 I got fit great. The footbeds are comfy and mold quickly mold to your feet. The outsole is vibram so has plenty of grip and seems like it will last for a lot of miles. The padding on the straps is nice and make these more comfortable to wear than other ones I have had without the padding, especially in the heal. This lets me wear these for longer periods of time and for longer distances. I think this also helps to give a more secure fit. When the straps are adjusted for my feet the toe straps are a bit long so the ends of the straps are very close to/touch the ground. I'm not a huge fan of the olive green color. The black would make them dressier, or something patterned would be a better choice for me. I'm not sure how much I will end up wearing them around town, but will put them to use camping and on the trail.
Sole is splitting in half after 3 months....
Bought 3 months ago and the sole is splitting in half already... I thought Tevas meant good quality but I guess not anymore :-( Customer service offered to replace them but I first have to send them back and wait 3 weeks, those are my only open toes shoes so what do I wear in the meantime...?
So much more than a water shoe
I originally bought these last year as a water shoe for beach/river/hot springs hikes. I immediately thought they were comfortable in all the right spots. Padding on the underside of all straps and arch support paired with Vibram soles made for an outstanding combination. I have since started using them on all of my hikes around California to even include peak hikes such as Mount Baden Powell with 2,775 ft of elevation gain. All of these hikes(approx 100 miles)have been done with ease and comfort! 10/10 would buy again. I have a 20 mile thru hike next month with multiple river crossings and cannot wait to put these sandals to the ultimate test!
Fast to tighten, loosen or scramble
I took these shoes on a spin scrambling over some rock on the way to climbing. The soles worked really good on dry, crystal granite. It was really easy and fast to tighten them down for more technical sections and loosen them when I was more relaxed. This can take a little bit more time in a lot of sandals, esp. putting on and taking off. The only criticism is that their straps were a little long by a few inches when I tightened them down and my foot could twist a little inside the sandal if wearing socks in cold weather. Otherwise, a great craging sandal for scrambling or hiking. Will replace my current one because I like it so much.
Best strap sandals on the market!
Not sure why the other reviewer wants to use these for multi-day, backpacking trips. These are great for short trail walks and walking around town, not for backpacking. I wear these every day, spring through fall. They are 1000% better than the normal universals, due to the padded webbing. They do offer a slight amount of arch support, for people with low or normal arches. The traction is great, without being too stiff or aggressive. I would wear these over any other brand... all-day, every day. I normally wear 10.5 D/M shoes. I wear 10 in these and they are perfect.
