Took the JMT 25 for it’s first hike today. 10miles in the San Juan’s of Colorado. This is the pack. I’ve bought 6 packs this year looking for the perfect pack, and this is it. This is as close to a perfect pack for a day trip hike as it gets. Carries weight well, very comfortable, has most features you’ll be needing for an all day adventure and fits everything you could want for 10-20 mile hike. The only thing it’s missing for me is I would like to see one more smaller pocket on the inside for keys/wallet. I use the small pocket on the top for headlamp, first aid kit, water filter, musher secret and dog treats, so another separate pocket for wallet/keys would have made this pack absolute perfect.
Really well thought out bag, great for traveling - can be used as your personal item on flights under the seat and I used it for hiking the Camino and it was the perfect size. The optional outside extension is a game changer - making it really flexible in size.
Took it out for 8 miles last weekend with a decent amount of weight last and this pack is a very comfortable carry. Minor tweaks: all hydration compatible packs need a clip on the shoulder strap for the drinking hose; considering the volume of the top pocket, the zipper needs to be 1" to 2" wider; hip-belt pockets should be made of shell material, not mesh; and lastly, when you leave that much extra webbing on the hip-belt, elastic bands for the excess are a must. That said, I really enjoy this pack. However, if MH makes the mentioned tweaks and gets rid of the side flaps that are part of the compression system, I will totally be upgrading.
I just purchased this bag for a two week trip to Japan. I wanted something I could pack a lot into, easily access/ access things quickly, and be able to fit on the bullet trains. Just tested it out on a weekend trip out of town on a Southwest flight. I'm also an avid hiking so I liked the multipurpose potential. I'm a 5'7 woman and got unisex cuz I like the color. Definitely fits larger than a regular day pack or school backpack. Shoulder straps are very soft and well padded. I was debating on sizing up for the 35L but it definitely wouldn't have fit under the seat on the plane so I'm glad I listened to my partner and got the 25L. Love the top compartment for wallet/phone/earbuds. Easy to pull up from under the seat and get stuff out of the top. I love that it stands up on its own without falling over. The mesh addition on the front is a great feature. I was able to stuff a Teva camper shoe in each side. Overall I'm super satisfied with this and looking forward to using it more!
This is the ultimate day pack. The fabric is tough but feels great, the shape and feel of the straps and back is excellent. The little loops for the compression straps are very creative. They allow the ends of the straps to sit against the pack instead of flailing around. The side pockets are both big enough to fit 1L Nalgene bottles in them and I have been able to strap skis to the sides of the pack as well. You can they really applied themselves with this one but yet I’m not overwhelmed with many little features. Great job guys!
Field tested this on an off-trail summit. This pack has just what you need for a lightweight trek that could turn into an adventure. The top load lid makes getting in and out a zip. Internal frame. Stash able mesh net that has numerous options for items. The Cordura material this pack was birthed from is tough and withstood going through thorn patches and granite pinch points while traversing. After one outing with the Mountain Hardwear JMT 25L it's my new day or ultralight thru hike backpack. About a 20in torso for sizing inquires
Just to let you know dimensions Height - 19.5 inch ___ Width - 9.5 inch ___Depth - 7.5 to (9 inch when really full) Height - 50 cm ______Width - 24 cm ____ Depth - 19 to (25 cm when really full) I used this pack on 8 miles hike with 15 pounds and it was very comfortable. Material feels solid but I will not put more than 20 - 22 pounds to it. Overall is not heavy duty pack but is very good if you need something of this size. I wish one hip-belt pocket to be made of shell material. One thing I did notice is this pack is sometimes noisy. I think this is how frame works against material when you have some weight on it. Not all the time but you do notice when you make some moves. Overall I am Happy with this pack... I need to test more but is good option
I love this pack. It is durable and intuitive. The mesh front pocket is great and stows when it isn’t needed. I wore it in the rain all day without a cover and while it certainly isn’t waterproof it did a good job shedding water and keeping the interior mostly dry. I’m 6’3” and it fits me better than most one size day packs. It works great for solo backcountry hikes but it’s also big and durable enough for shorter hikes with my kids and all of the snacks. Handles weight well.
This guy rules. I got the bigger men’s version and hiked all day yesterday with shirt off most of the time and was cozy with no chaff. Wouldn’t mind an extra accessory pocket on the inside but oh well. Plenty of room. Like the way the top flap zippers open outward-that’s smart. Love the optional kitty of the web stow on back for a jacket or whatever. Very breathable too like the Osprey packs…. But wast overly for fitting like those. I used the water bladder pocked for my heavy wet towel and suit. Kept weight close to my back. Hip belt was light but does the job and is comfy. Like that the poached on the belt can actually hold my phone too. Bonus that. Protected side pockets belt my water jog and then shoes at a beach stop. Looking forward to putting this thing through more paces. I would recommend this to anyone. Plus it’s good looking. Thanks M. H.
Absolutely thrilled with the product. I have taken it on 3-4 hikes ant this point and so far it has worked perfectly. My back stays cool, the zippers are easy to use, the compartments are useful to stay organized, and the hydration pouch system is ideal. Can’t wait to try it on longer day trips, where I can test out the hip straps and potentially use the mesh pouch!
