I really wanted to love these shoes. The Lone Peak GTX looks great, and the Vibram sole is genuinely impressive, very grippy on technical terrain. The Waterproofing also seemed solid. Unfortunately, the comfort just wasn’t there for me. Where the toe box creases during movement it caused significant pain on my right foot, to the point that it actually bruised and hurt for days afterward. This happened after only a pretty easy 3-mile hike. I gave them one more chance on a short 1-mile walk, but the pain returned immediately, and at that point I had to give up and will return them. It’s especially disappointing because I own the Timp 5 GTX and don’t have this issue at all, so this seems to be a rigidity or flex pattern problem specific to this model. It’s possible the crease pain might go away with more break-in time, but it hurt badly enough that I wasn’t willing to find out. Great traction and style, but for me the fit and flex made these unwearable.
I have always hiked in boots previous but figured it's time to try something new and i was not disappointed. Bought these and immediately took them on a camping trip with multiple dayhikes. As in some other reviews the toe box was initially pressing down on my toes, but that stopped after about 1mile and they were super comfortable. I often have trouble with my toes rubbing in other soes and boots and that was not the case with these (but probably wouldn't with any altras). They secure on muddy trails and waterproof. Dirt and debris stayed out, even sand barely made it in the shoe. The reason i gave 4 stars is because my feet skip forward on very steep trails and they hurt. So for that I'll have to go back to boots. It says the 0 drop may take time to get used to, I wear barefoot shoes regularly so wasn't an issue for me.
I have the regular lone peaks and they are my favorite shoe, I got these for hiking a lot of mileage in rainy England and the top of the toe box was not made tall enough, the goretex is too rigid without any flex so it presses down on my toenails and hurts them every time I walk. If they only added another couple cm of space there they would be great. I’m so bummed, back to the drawing board!
I wear these almost everyday. They hold up great especially in the PNW. Great traction as well. It took a little bit more time to break them in with the stiff gortex but was worth it.
I really wish to like these, and I have had many Lone Peaks in the past and always loved it. I was excited to finally see a GORETEX version of it since I just moved to Seattle and am braced for some rainy hikes. They were such disappointment! Initially, I thought they just needed to be broken in, so I gave it a few days of walking but it hasn't improved. The toe boxes are just too rigid with the GORETEX materials and the top of my feet developed blisters. I can't believe it's got such good reviews... are my feet odd or something?
I bought these about a month ago, they are 100% worth it went on a hike in them, they held up amazing! My feet didn’t hurt and they were warm in dry in snowy conditions!
Returning them. Although they seem well made, they made a noise similar to a flip flop as I walked.
I have had 4 of the Lone Peak shoes. Perfect for walking in the dew in the morning , hiking with my fog and they are so comfortable!
