So far (54 miles in) - this has been an excellent max cushioned trainer. Hardly any show of wear on the bottom of the shoe. And the P35 foam is like a little pillow for your foot. Definitely wouldn't want to try to pick up the pace in this shoe - but then why would you be buying a max cushion shoe for that. Lock down is solid and there's no slipping around in the shoe - it's true to size - but definitely fits like an Altra - wide toebox with plenty of room. Great option for a recovery shoe or eating up long run miles in comfort. I use it as a complement to the Experience Flow 2's.
I have been wearing another brand for my trail shoes but none of their road options suited my need for a low drop with adequate forefoot space without going to a wide size. My heel and midfoot don't need the width, just my forefoot. I'm 69 and do about 5k per day on trails. I was seeking a road shoe for recovery days. A drop of around 6mm and with adequate space in the forefoot as I had toe surgery a few years ago and don't like lacing that cinches down on the first metatarsal. I am used to wearing my worn trail shoes on the road so a really soft and lesser stack would not have worked for me. The P35 feels good and the upper as well with a comfortable tongue. Laces are longish so I can lace as I am used to for heel security. I like the fit enough that I have ordered the Wild 3+ for the trail.
I have been using Brooks Adrenaline / Glycerin for several years, having toe space issues. Moved to Altra FWD Via2 as per Taylor (REI) recommendation, and these shoes have given me great comfort and overall experience. Love having these shoes. Definitely recommend to a friend. Thanks to Altra and REI Staff.
Fit great, super comfortable. Love them. Been buying Altra for years, first time trying this model.
This shoe, with the EGO P35 foam, is a big step forward from the first generation. I find the foam to be soft and comfortable. It does not appear to suffer from compression, bouncing back evenly from every stride. Likewise I didn't feel any stability issues. The shoe is fairly plush and is extremely comfortable to wear. The 4mm drop is a great option for people who'd like to transition to a zero drop shoe. I was in an 8mm drop shoe and had no problems moving into shoe. Construction seems solid both inside and out. Heel cushioning is excellent. Forefoot cushioning is very good considering this is a 37mm stack height shoe. It's easily as comfortable as larger stack size shoes I've worn. The shoe has a slight rocker geometry which I really don't notice, making this shoe an option for standing without stability concerns. Laces are long so anyone needing to use the 2nd eyelet for heel lock down won't have an issue here. Opportunities for improvement: 1) the upper isn't as breathable as I'd like. If you are in hot climates like I am you will feel some heat during your outings. Using merino socks helps with this. 2) the midsole energy return isn't as good as other shoes I use.
