Really well constructed sun shirt, I prefer it to other capilene tops I have from Patagonia. I took a side by side comparison photo of the fabric from a capilene cool trail shirt from 2025 and a sun hoodie from a few years ago and I prefer the ventilation of this new version for comfort. I usually wear long sleeves for hiking and even wore this rafting yesterday and it kept me cool, sunburn free and dried fairly quickly too. I’d definitely get the hooded neckline version for increased coverage while backpacking as well. I like the small side, zip pocket on the shirt too, big enough for a card, keys and chapstick. I feel like it might run a little larger than past styles and think an XS would have been better than the small, I’m 5’3” 120 lbs, 32DD.
I actually really like this shirt! It is thoughtfully designed and feels lightweight but not lacking in quality. From the thumb and additional finger hooks to the zipper pocket design, overall it just feels like the design was very well thought out. The fit is also perfect. I thought it might be a little boxy from photo but it actually is form fitting just enough. I threw it on as soon as it came in the mail and my husband and kids both said they liked how it looked without hesitation. I wore this today for outdoor yoga and wanted the sun protection. It was actually great. Sweat dries fast and it feels very comfortable. Can’t wait to wear this shirt more for other adventure.
So when I first tried this shirt on, I wasn't sure how much I liked it...it's a snug fit (I'm a small/medium so I knew I might be on the border of the fit) and it's not that soft (I like comfy!), but I knew I needed to try it out so I forced myself to wear it yesterday (super hot and humid!!) and again this morning. It didn't keep me cool (that's not its job!) but it also didn't make me hot when walking in the sunny areas of the trails so that little bit of sun protection was nice...and it was a bit more comfortable than the first time I tried it on! It does have the thumb holes to help hold the sleeves in place as well as a side pocket (literally on the side of my ribcage, which is a bit awkward, to be honest), I tried to put my key fob in it but it felt odd and uncomfortable so into my leggings pocket it went! I went from thinking I'd give it a 2-3 star rating to a 4 star (not soft!).
This has quickly become one of my go-to shirts. It’s a very lightweight material that is breathable and great for being outside as it protects you from the sun but keeps you very cool. I ordered a larger size as I like a looser fit especially for hiking and it fits great, no areas where it is too tight or too loose. I have a Patagonia Capilene shirt I bought several years ago that is a thicker, more swimsuit-type material, I definitely like the feel of this new shirt better. Highly recommend this shirt for any outdoor activities!
The Patagonia Capolene cool sun long-sleeve shirt lives up to its name. It is very comfortable and kept me cool and protected from the sun on a hot day. I love that the sleeves are long enough and have thumb holes if you need them. There is also a pocket on the right side of the shirt in the rib section, not the lower section like many other shirts. While you can put a cell phone in the pocket, it is a bit too heavy. Something like ID,snack or key would be better to store in the pocket. Good coverage front and back even when lifting arms in the air. True to size. Color is nice as well. Overall 5/5.
The Patagonia Capilene Cool Sun Shirt is made with a nice lightweight fabric. I’m a beekeeper and wore this long sleeve sun shirt while doing a hive inspection on a hot summer day. This sun shirt kept the sun and bees off my skin while keeping me quite cool. I really like the light gray color and the fit is perfect!
Great sun shirt. The fit is really nice. The sleeves are long enough to comfortably use the thumb holes and nifty finger loop. For rafting this is huge, because the tops of your hands get blasted all day, and full coverage that stays over your knuckles is key. The body is also nicely tailored for me as it’s not too slim. I was truly amazed at how quickly this shirt dried. I could dunk it fully in the river and it was bone dry in less than half an hour. The fact that it is made from recycled material is a major bonus. The zipper pocket at the rib didn’t rub even with a tight PFD and might really come in handy for small items like gels, chapstick, ID etc. Overall smitten with this sun shirt and it will be a regular in my rotation. Next time I’ll buy the one with a hood!
I love this Patagonia sun shirt. I’m usually not a fan of sun shirts because they can be hot…but this one surprised me! I wore it for the first time while kayaking on a hot day in the Tetons, and I genuinely felt cooler after I put on the shirt! It felt true to size - roomy enough to put over a swimsuit or tank but fitted enough to wear comfortably under the life jacket. I appreciated having sun protection that didn’t feel suffocating and dried quickly when wet.
Love this shirt! It’s breathable and lightweight and dries quickly. I was concerned it might be too warm but it feels the same as a sleeveless shirt but with sun protection
