  • Certified as both a half and twin rope so you can choose the technique that best suits the climb
  • Half and twin ropes are designed to be used as a matching pair; handling, elongation and strength differ from brand to brand and size to size
  • Small 8.5mm diameter keeps the weight down so you can carry the rope deep into the mountains
  • New Dry treatment meets the UIAA standard for water repellency, absorbing just 1% of its weight in water even after surface abrasion
  • Special heat treatments incorporated into the Dry process also increase the tenacity of the nylon fibers, making it 120% more abrasion resistant than a non-treated rope
  • Dry treatment provides a lubricating effect on the fibers of the rope, which reduces fiber-on-fiber friction to allow the rope to hold additional falls before going flat
  • Kernmantle design features a stretchy core protected by a durable outer sheath which combine for strength and good handling.
  • The Mammut Genesis 8.5mm x 60m Dry Half/Twin Rope meets UIAA tests for falls, impact force and elongation

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Half Rope I don't know why this rope is two totally separate listings on REI, so I'll have to copy paste this over to the other color as well. This rope handles really well, phenomenal dry treatment, and is really durable. That pretty much should sell it if this is the type of rope you want, I'd call this best in class for a rugged high-mileage half rope set. The weight/size/elongation is what is, its not necessarily better/worse than other half ropes. It is intentional and mostly due to the high sheath percentage, which gives it the durability. This is the closest thing to a 'workhorse' half rope as you can get, which will either be, or not be, what you are looking for. If you want a super light and fast half/twin set, then I'd look at the offerings below 8mm diameter. If you are looking for a triple rated rope at this diameter/weight, then this obviously wont work. I use this for just about everything, I'm a big fan of half ropes for the added rappell length and ease of splitting the weight between partners.
