Sizing notes

Rock Shoes: Scarpa recommends you downsize 1/2 to 2 full sizes from street shoe size, though downsizing depends on shoe model, intended use and personal preference. Mountaineering: Scarpa recommends you upsize 1/2 size or more depending on desired fit. Scarpa plastic mountaineering boots are based on the UK sizing scale. Ski Boots: All Scarpa ski bootsare measured in Mondo sizing.Highlighted (or not) sizes share the same shell size; the liners are lasted for each 1/2 size. Some skiers may want to downsize up to 1 full Mondo size, depending upon personal preference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first rock shoe I recently used these on the granite walls of Yosemite and am very pleased with my purchase. The price I paid in store was the same as a competitor with prime shipping, but I was able to try them on before buying, which is critical for something like this. I used the popular "1 1/2 sizes smaller than your running shoes" rule and it worked perfectly for me. 2 hour stretches in the shoe, with loosening the straps during belays, gave me zero discomfort. I would recommend this shoe to anyone who asked.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from ok first climbing shoe, good for wider feet Like other folks purchased this as first climbing shoes. They were ok till they wore out. Bought a 2nd pair same size, but they are slightly bigger/too large (sizing slightly inconsistent pair to pair.) Staff at my gym say Origins don't edge well. Returning them in favor of $10 more expensive Scarpa Helix. Scapas are the only brand I've found to fit ok on my slightly wider feet, albeit a 1/2 larger size than I wear on street shoes.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for recreational I bought this pair of Scarpas because it was the only one in my size and it was also the cheapest on my budget. I'm primarily a gym climber and as such have used them fairly extensively for the past 2 months. Few things, the soles aren't as grippy as I'd like and they wear almost like a pair of flats. These do have really nice support and comfort around the heel so I've been able to heal hook a lot more. These are a nice starter pair of climbing shoes although I'd go with something with a little more grip on the soles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shoes! Although these were my first pair of rock climbing shoes, they definitely seem as though they withstood in all aspects typically looked at by experienced climbers. I wore them while climbing for hours on end in the Gunks while it was raining. They slipped very rarely, didn't loosen up on me, remained sturdy during the climb, and were easy to take on and off! I'm super happy with them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shoe for a beginner I'm new to bouldering, however these shoes are so much better than the rentals I had been using. I'm normally a size 9 in women's shoes, but I bought the 8 2/3 size. First day wearing them was rough on my big toes, but by the third round I noticed they already felt better. I suggest trying them on in the store so you know what size works best for you- they should be tight and stiff, but not painful. These shoes have just enough arch and support to improve one's techniques and still be comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great beginner/intermediate climbing shoe Bought these to get back into climbing after being out for quite a few years. I wanted to shoe that would get me started again without breaking the bank and these were the option at my local store. I had never used any gear by Scarpa, but I'm glad I gave them a shot. These shoes are comfortable enough to wear all day in the gym, but aggressive enough to tackle some more challenging climbs. If you are looking for a good beginner/intermediate shoe I highly recommend giving these a shot. As with any performance shoe take your time and get the right fit. If you split two sizes, go with the smaller size and check out some videos on how to stretch the leather online. I got the 1/2 size smaller and now have a shoe 'custom' stretched to my foot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value - comfortable Great starter shoe, very durable and comfortable. The straps pull very tight for that solid fit. Can't beat this for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great first shoe. These are my first pair of shoes and I've been very happy with them so far. They fit nice and snug even with the velcro and I've been able to stand on the tiniest of edges which has been pleasantly surprising. The heel pocket also feels really nice; snug, but doesn't bother my achillies. The only question is how long they will last but so far things are looking good!

What is the cost of shipping, please. I am a member.

Asked by: April Blair Carlson
It's free. I believe most items over $50 ship for free. I know some are excluded (crash pads for example), but I believe most climbing shoes you buy will be with free shipping.

The rubber at the end of my shoes wore through to the hard plastic underneath after about 4 months of climbing twice a week or less at a gym. Does this sound reasonable or like a defect in the particular shoe I purchased?

Asked by: wcf1991
We suggest taking the shoes to your local REI store for an in-person inspection. This is the only way for us to determine if a product is defective.

For a beginning climber who boulders in a gym, would buying 1 size bigger than your jogging shoes work? I find if I rent a pair of 13s, while I jog in size 12, they are still very tight.

Asked by: JWeber
Typically you will want to order ½ to 2 sizes down from your normal street shoe for climbing shoes. For more information on how to choose climbing shoes please refer to the Expert Advice article below:
