Great sandals, very non durable sole
These are at least my seventh pair of chacos, I've been wearing them since 2002, and I love their sandals, however I'm pretty disappointed in this pair. My previous pair was a Christmas present but the sole was wearing pretty thin and I didn't have time to get them resoled so I bought these for the interim. I wore though the soles in less than 6 months. these are now more worn in half the time than my previous pair. Even the sandals I've had with 5.10 rubber soles lasted longer than this. I don't even walk that much, I'm a student so I spend alot of time sitting in class and the library. I'm not sure what the name of this sole is, but my previous sandals were the colorado sole and they lasted a year with way more abuse than these got in 6 months.
Want vibram back.
The upper of the sandals are great as others have mentioned. I do wish they would bring back the vibram soles as they are more aggressive and definitely noticeable. I also think the vibram self cleaned much better than chacos sole. Unfortunate that they continue to raise the price (Chaco) but don't provide the superior sole of previous iterations.
Disappointed in the quality reduction
I have become disappointed with Chaco sandals. My first pair of Chaco’s were amazing quality and lasted me almost 11 years. It was not until I completely wore the tread off the sole did I switch. At this time Chaco was purchased by another company. My next two pairs of Chaco’s experience the tread splitting from the sole after a year. Thinking this was just a bad pair, I purchased a second pair. They lasted about 1 ½ year and the same thing. I miss the quality of the original company. I still believe they are a good sandal but no longer worth the price tag.
Fine...as long as there's no sand!
These sandals are held on by one long strap that loops underneath the sole of the sandal 3 times. I bought them to use on a raft trip through the Grand Canyon and, on the trip, we camped on sandy beaches. The problem with the sandal is, after the first day, so much sand had gotten into the straps' pathways through the sole, that they were essentially impossible to adjust. As a result, even though I was able to wear them, they were continually uncomfortable, and, by the end of the trip, I had a nice cut in the gap between my big and first toe from the strap on each foot. There was realistically no way to keep them clean on at least on this trip.
Quality has gone down hill.
I've been wearing chacos for the last 8 years. I've worn them hiking, backpacking, running, skateboarding, mountain biking, kayaking, and paddleboarding. They were my everyday, all-day, footwear of choice. The last 6 pairs have lasted an entire year and have been replaced once the tread has been worn down. The last two pairs have all started to fail within 6 months at the heel risers well before the tread. I sent my latest pair to chaco for warranty repair but they refused to do the work under warranty stating this was normal wear and tear. It seems to me that the quality of the product has gone downhill the last few years. As much as I used to love these sandals, sporting weird tan lines, and identify as a Chaconian, I will be searching for alternatives. I can no longer recommend this product.
Miss the vibram...
I bought these to replace an old pair of z/2 unaweeps that went through a bajillion miles and five new soles. Just couldn't repair those old friends anymore. The fit on the new ones is exactly the same, and I'm super relieved. After a week, I already miss the old Vibram soles. The unaweeps felt more solid on slick surfaces, but these will do fine. We'll see how they hold up to a summer of fly fishing.
bring back vibram footbed!
I wanted to love these, but they are not as comfortable or durable as my prior Chaos with the far superior Vibram Unaweep footbed. These cracked mid sole after 41/2 months of wear, while my old vibrams lasted faithfully for over 3 years. Please Chaco bring back the Vibram footbed!
Perfect for high arches
I have an issue with high arches and have been looking for a sandal that could give me the support I need. Found it! I've been wearing them for about a month now and they have been great in and out of the river, around camp, around the house, everywhere.
Better than I thought
My son had a pair size 9 but to narrow for me and straps were so tight. I liked the idea and build of the shoe so I found a sale on REI and purchased a men 10W and after a week I fell in love! So a week later I went to browse for other sales and found that the same Chaco were even cheaper so I emailed customer service and they refunded the difference on my card. What a great company!
Quality shoe, but not for all foot types
I have many friends who swear by Chaco, and when my Teva sandals finally wore out I purchased a pair of these. After a couple weeks of wearing, they still hurt my feet like nothing I've worn before. There is just no way to make them line up with my feet. While the arch support is nice, the aggressive side bolsters in the heel cut into my feet and made anything other than a walk around the block unbearable. I tried the wide pair as well, but as I don't actually have wide feet the straps were too loose even when fully tightened. I can tell they are quality shoes, but just not for everyone.
