I'm having trouble finding shoes wide enough for me and was so optimistic about these.. But was quite disappointed. These are NOT wide at all. The band of material across the toe joint area was super tight, I've marked it in blue in my picture. The upper material was so tight that there was not even room for my foot to spill over the side of the shoe and it was pressing painfully on my big toe joint, I've marked that with a red circle in the pictures. These might work for folks with narrow feet looking for more toe room but if your feet are wide, skip Topo's and get yourself a different brand. The Altra's men's shoes haven't been quite wide enough for me either but these are even more narrow than the Lone Peak 3.0, 3.5, Superior 3.0 and 3.5 that I've tried.
I been running ultras since 2001, and I was looking for a pair to try since all the ones I have run with except the Montrail Masai, none convince me. This coming August I will be running my 10th Leadville Trail 100 miles and after running with the MT2 I now found the perfect shoe. First of all the fit is perfect, not narrow like Hoka of too width as Altra. It is very light and has a great cushion. The 3 mm drop is perfect. Besides it runs great on pavement. The MT2 is the best trail shoe I have ever tested.
I also have a pair of Hydroventures which I love. They're pretty much the same. I cannot say enough about these shoes. They are wide enough in the toe box to keep my toes from falling asleep. They could use a tad more arch support and they do slip a very small bit in the winter wet conditions yet they are the most comfortable shoe I've found, I still gave them a 5 star review. I wear these on warm to cool days and the Hydro's on the cold/wet days. Hope to have these forever but if not I will def buy again...
Extremely comfortable, great wide toe box without feeling too loose. The fit is really incredible. For me they have the exact right amount of padding for long runs. I'm used to running in very minimal shoes, so the padding in these feels really plush for 20 mile + trail runs, but not so much so that you feel like you are standing on a platform, which is how I feel in most of the modern "maximal" shoes. I think they are plenty light, and I have had no issues with grip. I've done several long trail runs in the rain on muddy single track with no problem. Only complaint from me is that I think they are ugly - to me the brown color is pretty awful. But that doesn't change the fact that these are fantastic trail running shoes.
I was hesitant at first because shoes always feel good in the store but these have worked out great. Was purchased for trail walking for our trip when my others were not working out for me. Would recommend this shoe to anyone interested in trail running or walking. Great fit out of the box and have held up threw several national parks this summer already.
Having run in Topo road shoes (which I love), I wanted to try one of their trail-specific models so gave the MT-2 a try. These shoes have more rubber on the sole and the tread is more aggressive nd more open than their road shoes so they grip more and shed mud better. Like all Topo shoes, the fit is just perfect for my feet. The wider toe box gives my toes room and the narrower heel and midfoot makes sure I have control on side hills and my toes don't jam the front of the shoe on descents. The tongue is fully gusseted so it will never move around and the laces simply do not come untied, so nice to have all the little things work! Although very comfy and in no way minimalist, these shoes do not have a rock plate under the forefoot so if you jump on a sharp rock you might feel it. These shoes are increadibly light! They have as much cushion as my old training shoes and lighter than my old race shoes. They have become my go-to shoes for any trail run and I have completed two 50k runs in them with zero issues.
I had contemplated purchasing these shoes for a long time prior to today. I tried on another pair of Topos a few years ago and loved the fit to my feet, but was mi ch hty hesitant to drop $100+ on a brand I knew little of and had heard even less about. Fast forward a couple years to present day: I just purchased these after work and hammered out a few trail miles with steep incline/decline segments. After snuggling them down with a heel lock lacing I was pleasantly surprised to not any hotspots or pains. Will try to update after getting some real distance though. but so far I am pleased with my purchase.
A perfect fitting shoe with a nice blend of cushion and responsiveness. WARNING: DO NOT RUN IN WET CONDITIONS! You will slip and fall, eventually. Can you even call these a trail show?! The MT-2 is limited to dry hard packed trails that feels more like a skate shoe from back in the 90s. Think Airwalk. The tight pattern design, shallow lugs, and non-gripping rubber outsole is horrible on loose ground and don't even think about mud! This seems to be consistent with all Topo trail shoes to date. I'm looking forward to Topo's new releases in late 2018, starting with the Ultraventure. Topo finally decided to get rid of their lackluster rubber compound and went with Vibram. It's about time!
Excellent forefoot room accomodates my toe sock and correctoes clad feet. Was great right out of the box which I promptly took on a 15 mile hike/run. A lot of ground feel makes it inappropriate for technical trails requiring rock plated shoes. Great toe protection. Very light.
This shoes were comfortable out of the box, good on snow and dry so fast. But they lasted just a few months (I normally wear shoes for at least 3-5 years, running 3 miles a couple times a week.) I found the cushion was too soft for me. The sole has worn out in less than a year and I now have holes in the upper mesh by both my big toes and the sides. The worse part is the heel's support which is null. Even for stretching, putting my leg flat at 90º on top of any surface feels like my bare heel hitting that surface. Besides, the ultra-thin material inside started crumbling after three months! I was literally finding crumbs of plastic inside my shoe! I wanted to love this shoe but not sure I'll buy again. I'm considering other Topos, hoping they improve quality and durability, but definitely will not buy the MT2 again.
