I bought it before my trip to wales in august and since then I’ve been on multiple climbs where it had poured with rain and the jacket has kept me warm and and dry for the whole time . The durability is immense as it can withstand so much more than described . I am very impressed with how it held up again storms when climbing snow don on multiple occasions . Highly recommend this item . The only thing I would like that could improve this piece of clothing is if it had a little inside pocket which would be perfect for a protein bar or phone . Very good material, it weighs very little and warm enough to do intense physical exercise. With a thermal t-shirt and this model you can go out at Zero Degrees Celsius without problem

I have been able to put this jacket through multiple conditions this shoulder season: From light snow and wind at 12,000ft to a light breeze in the Santa Fe woods to airplanes and climbing rock as the sun sets in New England. This packs down small enough to throw in a cinch bag and carry on a harness as well capable enough to break the wind just enough on the fall nights to keep you warm on your descent from the alpine. I highly recommend this jacket - I will HIGHLY stress that this is a superlight (SL) jacket and that comes with the notion that grams are shaved to make it as light as possible and that comes with some drawbacks. The zippers and pockets are all up to Arcteryx quality - I have seen a couple of stitching issues right around the wrists where you might pull harder than you want but overall, this thing is a must. I think if you love being fast and light but also prepared this is the perfect jacket for windy days, chillier fall and spring days and also as a mid-layer for ice climbing with a shell on if it is not blistering cold.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This jacket is underrated. It’s the perfect mid-level jacket for the in between seasons of spring and fall. I even find myself reaching for it on cool summer evenings. Because the SL is the lightweight and pared down version of its much more popular sibling the Atom LT, you don’t get the fuss and bells and whistles like an internal breast pocket, it still does the trick of staving off the chill and provides just enough breathability to support a quick run in cooler weather. For extra protection it throw on a hard shell and I’m good for a windy/rainy winter day. Yes it packs down well and provides a solid emergency layer when the temps unexpectedly dips.

Great piece of gear. Replaced my lightweight fleece jackets, it's much more packable and comfortable than your 100 weight fleece. Definitely not a stand alone jacket under 50-60 degrees, unless you're running or doing some sort of high exertion activity. At first it seemed like a huge price point for such a specific piece of gear, however it's turned into one of my most versatile articles of clothing. It doesn't pack down as small as some down jackets of course, but at just under 10 oz. its much more useful year round than a full on down piece.

I've had this jacket for a couple of year and mostly use it for hiking and climbing in the spring/ summer/ autumn. I am planning on running in it this winter and I imagine it would also be a great ski touring layer. It could also be used as a mid-layer in colder months. The helmet compatible hood and high hand pockets are great for use with a harness making it an excellent alpine/ climbing jacket. It's so lightweight that that there really isn't any reason not to bring it on an adventure. The only improvement I would make would be for it to pack into its own pocket in order for it to go on the back of a harness.

I have an Atom LT. I like it but it is a bit heavy for all but the coldest winter days. I tend to run hot and the Atom SL is a much better choice for me. It is a great jacket!

This is a great all around jacket. I use it commuting, hiking, camping, climbing, mountaineering, etc. Its is breathable for heated climbs up, breaks wind at the top and keeps a Portland drizzle at bay when commuting. External material is wind breaking material with some water repellant capability. A light application of synthetic insulation keeps it warm but low profile and packable. Mine is not without a few blemishes but I would say that it has fair well as far as wear and tear is considered. Will pick up a second this season as I have found embarrassing moments of blue shoes, blue Arc'teryx pants and this jacket.

Bought it for my Lofoten Norway hiking Trip as my active Layer. Pro: just the right amount of insulation , Acts like a windbreaker and withstands light rain , breathes extremly well. Cons : very fragile fabric, have a big rip in the Back just by leaning exhausted on a Rock , Arms are awkwardly long , so long in fact that i have to go to a Tailor and shorten them., lacks a chest pocket which would make this piece so super good . Summary: Its a good active layer for Summer hikes in the Mountains at temps from 5-15*C . Cut it weird. For Reference im 1.77cm and 82kg and i have bought Size L . Size M was better in the Sleeve length but made my belly look fatty .

I’ve got the half zip version of this and I love it. It is the perfect warmth for winter hiking in BC when an atom LT is too warm. I just used this up and down hiking to a peak in the monashees with only a base layer underneath and it was the perfect temperature. The hood and neck on mine aren’t like my atom LT, the neck is reinforced so it’s actually a pretty good neck “protector” from wind. The hood isn’t insulated but it too is really good for windy days and it’s also got a built in visor similar to the hoods on the hard shell jackets—just not as robust. I have found my atom sl to be the perfect outer layer for hiking and winter running, or when I need an extra layer.
