Great alternative to pulling a carry on

I bought this for trip to Japan to travel around on a 14-day JR Pass. It held 4 pairs of jeans, 7 shirts, 2 hoodies, down jacket, rain jacket, lightweight sneakers and my other travel essentials. Love the zip off day pack, there is a padded compartment for an iPad or room for a small laptop. There's an internal frame structure and adjustments allowing for miles of comfortable city walking. I am a 5'7" female and bought the S/M size which would be more comfortable if it were a little shorter. Also the bag did fit in the overhead correctly lengthwise on a new 737 but had to be put in sideways on an older 767. No hassles getting through the U.S. and Japanese airports.

Possibly the best available, still not that great

Pros: Full panel access; packs just like luggage. Packing cubes work great in this thing. This has a *real* -- if basic -- harness and hipbelt, and is actually pretty comfortable. You could definitely do a few miles with 25 or 30 pounds in this thing, as long as it was packed carefully. There isn't any back ventilation, so prepare to get sweaty, and it isn't hydration compatible. Straight jacket straps work really well to keep pack cinched down tight. No loose straps to get tangled in luggage belt. (I removed the bedroll straps, or whatever they are, on the bottom.) Cons: Material is too lightweight for luggage. Mine got a small tear on the very first flight. Mini-backpack is barely serviceable. Pack it carefully or it will bulge and be terribly uncomfortable. Realistically holds about 4 L and no more than 5 pounds. Even packed lightly, my shoulders got tired after a few hours. I never thought I would say this about an Osprey pack, but it doesn't have enough organization. The mini-pack just has a small pocket and one big space with two sleeves. (The main bag is one big space, but that's fine.) I also tried out the Farpoint 40 and the Deuter Transit 50. I think this might be the best hybrid currently available. But at $180, it wasn't worth it, so I took it back.

Perfect for pets

My husband and I were in the market for a hiking bag that could carry our 45lb dog. The dog recently had a limb amputation and even though he lives hiking, he no longer has the stamina to travel as far as he used to. The large bag fits him great with room to spare (we add a bit of extra cushion for him as well). The zippers opens wide, the waist straps keep the bag weight distributed, the small bag is good for other hiking essentials (water, leash, jackets). Good buy. We can still all go hiking together and doggo gets a break when he needs it.

Great

This bag is great! With all the compatmaent and size it made traveling for 10days easy. Easy to retrieve objects out of the small compartments when we needed something immediately. The large compartments allowed us to have ample space to carry enough clothes for 5-7days plus a pair of shoes. My wife and I both have one so i love the fact that you can hide the back straps and carry it like a duffle bag. Hiding the straps also made it easier to fit into the carry on compartments on the plane. I also have a 64oz water bottle that fits perfectly snugged in the water bottle pocket and secured with the compression straps. I love it so much I'm using it as my day pack!

PERFECT Backpack as a Carry-On Option!

Let me just start off and say that Osprey backpacks are amazing! Since my last trip abroad, I realized I needed a smaller backpack that is carry-on size. I had 11 flights my last trip and not once was I asked to check it in. It helps to unzip the daypack so it doesn't appear as bulky. I loved that the Farpoint zips all around. It was easy to reach in and grab whatever I needed. Because it's just one big storage compartment, it helps to have traveling cubes to stay organized. This pack is very comfortable. There is plenty of padding on the shoulders and hipbelt. Overall, a very good backpack! I recommend this one to all my friends.

Good travel pack

I bought this pack to replace a 20-25 year old Eagle Creek travel pack for a 5'7" woman. I loved my old pack but it was falling apart from lots of use. This pack has essentially all the features you would want. Detachable small pack that straps to the front, one large storage compartment. I do wish there were a few smaller compartments in the main pack. The smaller pack holds my 15 inch mac with no problem. I am 6' tall and this pack is a little small for me in the S/M size but we both wanted to be able to use it. Definitely try it on in the store if you can. I'm using the pack for a 4-day work trip now, but we will be using it for a 2-week international trip soon.

Great Travel Pack

I bought this travel pack for a trip to Egypt for 8 days. I like to travel light and the main pack had plenty of room. I liked that I could strap in my jeans and shirts without them moving around in the pack. I also like that I can bring the main bag as a carry on during flights. I loved the removable day pack. It was great when hiking and the water bottle holders held 1.5 liter bottle sizes well. Attaching the day pack to the main bag is nice as well as the hidden backpack straps to carry the entire pack. The only down side for me was no shoulder strap for the pack bag. If this was included I would give this product 5 stars.

Great TRAVEL Backpack: 2 bags in one

Purchased this travel backpack for biking through the Netherlands. The back-up detachable day bag was a very welcome addition. We could leave our main stuff where we were staying in the large bag, and take the day bag on our daytrips. All of the pockets are easily accessible with easy to handle zipper pulls. A built in back saving design where are you can attach the day bag to your chest and the larger back to your back is ingenious. The ability to zip up the back straps on the large bag makes it easier to handle while traveling in vehicles and airplanes. Handles like a large carry-on, although too large to actually be a carry-on. Day bag great for that. Recommended.

Easy acccess

I bought this pack about 2.5 years ago and have used it on about 5 trips ranging anywhere from 2 days to 4 weeks. It's so versatile. The straps are easy to adjust, it's super comfortable even when it's heavy, and the detachable backpack is great for small day trips with a bigger trip. Even after using it so much, there is hardly any evidence of wear and tear. Perhaps the most important thing is the ease of access to items inside the bag- the front zipper makes getting things in and out SO much less frustrating than a normal backpack. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this bag.

Osprey Far Point 55 Carry On

I bought 3 of these (2 S/M, 1 M/L) for my 2 daughters and myself as our carry on luggage for a week in Europe, to avoid checked bags. The 3 of us were able to pack for a week's travel and carry them easily through the airports and mass transit stations, with short walks to our hotels. I expected my daughters to complain about the weight they had to carry but they loved them...so much so that these are now their preferred carry ons for college. I also appreciated the zip off day pack which I used for our walking tours. While technically these bags do not fit the official carry on dimensions, we had no problems fitting them in the overheads of multiple airplanes and trains without any negative comments from the travel employees. I will be purchasing another soon and will recommend highly.

Amazing product, poor quality

I purchased this pack for an eight week vacation this summer and after the first leg, I had to return the pack and get another because it fell apart. It is amazing how much stuff the pack can hold and the day pack is perfect for my electronics. The mesh on the day pack ripped, the zipper fell apart and snagged all my clothes and the seems are shredding. I really loved this pack as it's perfect for backpacking travel; however, the quality is poor. I would only recommend if the quality improves.
