Great bag
Really fantastic bag and I take it on every trip now. Love that it fully opens up so you can access everything at the bottom of the bag without the hassle of taking things out. Quality is also on par with Osprey and has solid zippers. Perfect carry on for planes too. When not in use you can tuck the hip straps behind you (might not be the most comfortable this way, but really not a big deal to me). Overall a solid bag for on and off the trail.
Business and Europe Travel
I bought this bag mainly for my Europe trip. Tried it out beforehand on two separate week-long business trips and absolutely loved it. Just arrived home after two week vacation in England and Spain. This bag fits on the discount carriers (EasyJet and Ryanair) with no problem. Internal cinch straps compact clothes inside pack and external cinch straps compact it further so you end up with a tight pack for storage in overheads. The pack straps provide good support and stow away neatly under a zipped flap so they don't get caught on stuff when boarding and going through security. I will never again use a roller bag for business or vacation travel.
One Bag, Many Purposes
My wife and I bought matching travel packs; the Fairview 40 for her, and the Farpoint 40 for me. Since our travels have taken us by ship, plane, and train, these bags are perfect for all of our needs; serving as suitcases, airline carry ons, and short term backpacks. We especially appreciate being able to step off a train and easily carry our bags a mile or two, if necessary, to our hotel while keeping our hands free for trekking poles. The front panel opening makes these bags easy to pack, and the hip belts are beefy enough to comfortably support the load. When empty, they flatten nicely for storage, taking up far less space than suitcases of the same volume.
Best Pack for Me!
Just got back from 2 1/2 weeks in Europe and this pack was just about perfect. I really appreciated the pockets for organizing toiletries, papers and guidebooks, dirty laundry, etc. This was really easy and so comfortable, even fully packed and walking in towns. No problem stowing it overhead on airplanes. I did not end up using the mesh pockets on the outside, but they were the right size for water bottles or even a pair of sandals. The two cinch straps on the outside held my jacket when it was too hot to wear. Even the carry handles are padded. Should last for many adventures.
The perfect bag for the global nomad.
I bought this bag a few months ago and I love it. I spent a lot of time reading reviews and watching videos on various bags to find perfect bag for my style of travel This bag kept coming back as a solid choice. I wanted a bag with a separate compartment for my laptop to make it easy to remove for airport screening. I also wanted a good chest and hip belt system that was easy to protect on the plane. I also wanted a front loading bag with full access. This bag has all these features plus Ospreys stellar craftsmanship and guarantee. I bought the 40L and it is the perfect size for carrying on the plane with enough space to haul things for my extended travels. I have no reservations about giving this five stars.
My new go to travel bag
My wife and I bought this bag for travelling light on our honeymoon through Europe, but it's already proving to be a workhorse for routine travel. It's my go-to bag for weekend ski trips, and with judicious packing it can fit a week's worth of clothing for longer trips. It is carry-on sized for flights, and the laptop and tablet sleeves make it easy to schlep your tech on the go. The burly handles on three sides, the shoulder strap, and the full back-pack suspension system gives you all kinds of options for how you wish to carry the pack.
Great design, but fell apart
Bought this pack 2 months ago to take it on a long term trip to Asia and one of the seams on the outer compartment completely came apart after about 3 weeks of travel, with just normal use. Overall the design is great and I love the pack, but I expected it to be durable enough to withstand normal day-to-day travel usage. I have an Osprey Aether 85L that I beat up for over a year and is holding strong, so maybe I just got unlucky with this pack? I'd exchange it at REI or get Osprey to repair it, but I'm in Vietnam and traveling around for another 6 months, so duct tape will have to do until I can find a way to fix it over here, or get another pack. Because of the tear: 2 stars Without the tear: 5 stars, easy.
Love this pack
I bought this bag to use in iceland to carry my really heavy tripod and dslr camera which was the perfect size to fit compared to a normal backpack. The hip straps works wonders. I love the functionality of this backpack and it's a great carry on size was never bothered by the people at the airport. Love this bag and highly recommended for traveling. Great size you can fit a lot of stuff in this bag! Cons-the bottle holders aren't the best sometimes it stays and sometimes it doesn't but with the compression straps it works great. Also, the positioning for the laptop would have been better if it was flat on the back because I was scared my heavy stuff would crush my laptop.
perfect traveler
used this on international trips and domestic. works amazing. perfect for carryon, love how backpack straps can be stowed when moving on the airplane, and then whip them out when walking around the city. along with compressible storage bags, i was able to pack 3 weeks worth of summer clothes in here. im guessing during winter, it may drop down to half that length. organization pockets are great, colour is really nice. bag is mostly comfortable when walking around with it packed (maybe about 15-20lbs?, i had weighed it but forgot now). compression straps were super useful when maximizing it's capacity.
Can change the way you travel
Think of this as the foundation of a new travel system. Lightweight wool or classy poly that packs tight and drys fast. Never check a bag unless you want to. Carry your luggage over lousy street, up stairways, onto trains or buses when you need to. I compared with the highly rated Tortuga pack and chose Osprey because a) their pack rock (although I don’t like their tiny packable day pack) and b) this bag is comfortable to carry. My wife and I got these for a month in Greece, Israel, and Jordan. We could have used suitcases, but these were more flexible and portable. But remember, it’s a new travel system. This pack won’t hold you cotton clothes for four weeks, but it held the light weight stuff just fine.
