Trail Crusher
This bike is absolutely fantastic. I love the 27+ tires. So grippy. Im rolling over large roots and rocks without the knocks I would get before. I can lean into turns more aggressively without worrying about spilling out. Ruts are no problem either. The frame is super light. The shocks are great and plenty of travel for most riding. Hills are no problem. It does get a touch bouncy at times but I need to adjust tire pressure to get the perfect balance. This bike is so cool and will turn heads. It is a game changer for me.
Bad Habit 1
Just received the bike last week, after ordering online-took about 7 days to arrive. My review may be skewed because the last bike I bought was 23 years ago, a Cannondale M400. Since it took a beating, and lasted forever, I decided to be loyal to the brand. I'm a 50 year old male, about 5'9", 185lbs and still think and act like I'm 25-much to my orthopedic surgeons chagrin. I shopped around a bit, rode a few 29'ers, and sought advice. I went with the 27+ because I liked the idea of a softer ride than a hardtail, and the grip of the 3" tires. I've been on the BH1 3x so far and love it. It crushes the rocky terrain here in Austin Tx Hill Country. It handles like a dream, and takes anything thrown at it. The 11-speed single sprocket is plenty for the average rider, like me. I'm sure there are more rad bikes out there for the x-treme nutjobs, but for someone who rides the rocks 2-3x a week and wants a 27+ with full suspension, I highly recommend it.
2018 must go carbon to get lefty!
This 2017 is a better value than the 2018. You cant get a lefty unless you go 5k plus and its this same lefty! Upgrade the GX drivetrain , add a dropper and youve got one heck of a bike for the money!
Made a few changes
To be honest, I did not like this bike upon purchase. I had a hard time getting use to it and so I decided to make a few changes. I am an avid cyclist; owner of several mountain and road rigs. To start, a dropper post was installed; KS Lev Integra. Additionally, the tires are too wide. Stock tires are WTB Bridger 27.5x3.0. I upgraded to Schwable Nobby Nic 27.5x2.8. A fast rolling, super grippy tire capable of providing the added traction 27.5+ bikes are sought for. Next, I changed out the chain ring to an Absolute Black 28t compatible with the Cannondale Hollogram crank. This was meant to accommodate my riding style as I like to rev my pedal strokes vs. powering through on an unnecessarily large chain ring. The stock 30t was ok, however, the 28t makes the bike more capable. Just my opinion. My biggest contemplation was the fork. While the Lefty is absolutely wonderful, I wanted more travel. The path I took was to replace the Lefty (120mm travel) with a Rockshox Pike RCT3 Solo Air with 150mm travel. The bike stock is built with decent components that work for the price. My end result is a machine that climbs as well as it descends and is incredibly comfortable in the corners. There is a huge improvement in the descending aspects that makes me feel like a better rider.
