Rated 1 out of 5 by from Faulty design So there I was on the glacier in Torres del Paine trying to not fall into anything deep and my lovely new Elements rain pants are sliding down my butt every few steps. The waistband is terrible; a flimsy elastic string which keeps slipping. I literally had to sit down and make suspenders out of duct tape, bieners and webbing. I luv REI and buy a lot of gear there but these have a serious design flaw. I am partly at fault for not being a careful equipment shopper but these carry the REI label. They were good at wind protection. I did not have enough rain to judge as to waterproofing. Look elsewhere for rain pants. Thank you, Chris Kelly

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Draw cord fail I really wanted to like these pants. Great fabric, pockets and 30 inch inseam. When I saw the very small bungee cord, 5/32, for the waist adjustment with a small friction lock I knew there would be long term issues. If you snug up the waist the cord pulls back though the lock. Bend over to tie your boot, the cord pulls back thru. Every time the cord pulls thru the friction lock its weakened. The cord on my pair broke the forth time I wore them. Of course rei gave me a refund as I had no interest in another pair. Goodo news I was close to an rei instead of out in the boonies. If rei fixes this issue I'll buy them again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, basic and waterproof Performed as advertised. i was hiking in Iceland and I needed to climb a 5 foot waterfall to continue exploring a canyon. I could have tried scaling the nearby wall but that could have lead to a fall on the rocks. The safer route was up the waterfall. So I put the waterproof pants over my trousers and went right up the waterfall. The waterproof pants did the job and I stayed completely dry. The feature I didn't appreciate when I bought them was the zippers at the bottoms that enabled me to slip the waterproof pants directly over my trousers for quick application and removal. Worked as advertised. Also the pants are somewhat breathable or at least I didn't get hot wearing them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great water/windproof pants Performs as advertised. Took this Patagonia for a multi-day hike. I hiked in 60+ mph winds and hail/sleet, and I felt very warm and dry. The bottom zippers are nice, but honestly, it's a bit of a hassle to slip on and off with large hiking shoes. The side-pockets are a nice touch. There is a draw-string waist that helps, but doesn't totally stay-put (minus 1 star). The fitting was good without being too "baggy". Full mobility.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fail to perform under more extreme conditions These pants performed well in mist and regular rain, but this past weekend I had them in heavy rains and strong winds. Unfortunately they failed when faced with the conditions where I really needed them to work. The wind was howling and the rain was coming in horizontally. They leaked throughout and my pants got pretty wet, though not entirely soaked. I need something that I know will work. My buddy with his Gore-Tex pants stayed dry :-(

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Pants with one exception I love the pants and they are just as good as the Event pants at 1/2 the price. The one issue is the drawstring waist closure. It just doesn't work very well. Also, there are no belt loops, so suspenders are the only answer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Pants for the Money I bought these for a winter trip to colorado. Single digits temps with a couple days sub zero. These performed well, speaking mostly to the windproof. I haven't put them through any rain as of yet. I would hesitate to take these into extreme conditions. The waist draw cord is a little insufficient, as I've seen in other reviews, and I agree. With moderate/harsh weather, these perform well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kept me Warm and Dry We bought these in anticipation of high winds and chilling rains during our two-week Iceland Photo tour. They worked perfectly, were very comfortable, and withstood the 50 mph winds we encountered. We recommend them highly.
