Works Perfect!
Steps: 1. Run a cycle of water thru your washing machine to clean out the soap tray. 2. Put 3 oz. of Nikwax in clean soap tray and set washer on gentle with an extra rinse 3. Put my North Face 3/4 length black down coat in washer. 4. Remove coat after washing, shake it out and put in dryer on gentle with low heat. Put 2 tennis balls in dryer. It dries very fast (15-29 minutes). 5. Take out Coat and fluff to be sure all down is dry. First time I washed my coat and its 2 seasons old. So happy I did. No smells and it retained the nice color and finish just like new.
Made my down quilt like new!!
After hiking hiking the entire PCT my down quilt was gross! It stunk, was dirty, and no longer was as lofty as it once was. I washed it in the tub with this stuff and put it in the drier with no heat and tennis balls. After many times through the drier and pulling apart down clumps by hand my beloved quilt is nice and lofty, has zero smell, and has been restored to its original color! I’ve also used the tech wash and waterproofing for DWR for rain jacket and that’s dang near good as new. These products are essential for keeping my gear alive and well for years to come!
Amazing!
This stuff works! My husband stuffed our 20-year-old sleeping bag into the back seat of his pickup and left it there... and threw empty drink cups and take out food containers and other trash on top of it. By the time I figured out it was in there and admonished him about it it was already funky. Instead of washing it, though, he stuffed it into a box in the basement. So I just found it today and it was sooo rank. Almost thought about throwing it out except it was so expensive. Tried this stuff out and it worked -- and it didn't destroy the batting! Honestly I am very impressed.
3.5oz is 2 cap fulls. Update your label nikwax.
Works fine. Minus 2 stars for not using your cap as a measurement tool on label instructions. This has been industry standard for decades. I had to watch 2 YouTube videos to figure this out. Pro tip: 3.5oz is apparently 2 full cap fulls.
Incredible
I was unaware of proper sleeping bag care until pretty recently. As a result I had a heavily used bag that had never been washed and another one that had been stored compressed for a few years. I used this product to wash both according to the instructions on how to (carefully) wash a sleeping bag from REI's website. It's absolutely incredible how much loft was restored! The bags now completely fill out their large storage sacks, whereas they used to only fill them up about halfway. In fact, now they're so puffy that I have to find a new place to store them! I also used this product to wash a badly abused down jacket and vest. Same result: both items are as shiny and lofty as the day I bought them.
Just in the Nikwax of time!
After my dog peed on my new Katabatic quilt, I had to wash the quilt for the first time. Following the manufacturer’s recommendation, I used Nikwax Down Wash and it worked perfectly as advertised! The quilt was clean and the down lofted like new, after a lengthy drying period. Highly recommend this product.
Effective Wash for Down Bag and Jacket
Don't dread washing your down! I'd put it off long enough to get the olfactory attention of my tent mates, so it was time. Also, I'm sure the down was not fluffy enough to be effective anymore. One bottle was enough to hand wash my down bag and a parka (in separate washes), air dry, then fluff in the dryer with tennis balls. So, one bottle does not go very far, but it works great. It was a thrill to get that down bag smelling nice and all fluffed out.
A Clean Smelling Bag
I started with a funky smelling down sleeping bag (rated for 0 degrees) that was used for about 7 years without cleaning. Washed per instructions in a front door washer with a heavy duty setting for one hour. Dried for 2 hours on low heat and for 2 hours with no heat using 2 heavy rubber donuts. The result was a clean bag with nearly the original loft. AND IT WAS FUNKLESS!
Clean as a whistle!
Easy to use and did what it said it would. Had a sleeping bag in storage for years and decided to pull it out. Considered going to a commercial laundry-mat, but just washed it in the bathtub with this product. It's a full sized North Face down bag, and it had been in storage for a long time. Used the entire bottle which was the plan. Soaked it, agitated it a few times, let it soak some more, rinsed it a few times and let it air dry - came out great! Easy...
It revitalized my down jackets!!
I am a reseller of sustainable clothing of which many items are down insulated. I have started using Nikwax Down Wash Direct to wash the items prior to selling. I am truly amazed by how much this product brought the down jackets back to life! Puffers seemed to come to life! Great product!
