A small trolling motor can be mounted on the back of this canoe. A canoe specific motor needs to be purchased directly from Old Town.

16' Saranac vs 14'6" model is the question. Like the 16' extra length + 1" extra width for stability, 10 Lbs extra weight is a disadvantage. What do the experts say are the pros and cons between the two? What do you recommend transport on hard shell jeep?

Asked by: True Grit
The 14'6" Sarnac will be easier to turn. The 16' Sarnac will be easier to paddle over longer distances when you get it up to speed. The longer canoe will also track better and stay on course. We recommend transporting your canoe with a top-mounted canoe rack. https://www.rei.com/c/canoe-racks

Do the seats backs fold down enough to be below the top of boat for transportation? Also if they do can they be secured so they don't unfold while carrying upside down or while on top of vehicle during transportation

Asked by: delta70
The seats on the Saranac 160 do fold down and are lower than the top of the boat when folded. They can be secured by the seat straps so they stay in place.

Whats your best Canoe of a paddler who is traveling on large rivers as well as small tributaries.  I do a lot of trips along the lower Delaware River camping in both Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey.  I like being able to move camp as we make our war

Asked by: Jace
For traveling long distances on rivers, we recommend a touring canoe: https://www.rei.com/c/touring-canoes
