The best socks I've ever bought. Thought people were full of it. Saying wear wool during all season. Well finally wore them during the summer. Well I can say they didn't leave my feet sweaty like cotton does. They don't hold foot odor like cotton. They keep my feet warm during the winter for the average cold temps. I am slowly changing all my socks to wool. They do have what they call "endurance" that thinner. I'll be using these for everyday wear. They don't hold odor. So you can get a way with wear socks multiple days. If you would like too. Can't beat that Unconditional Warranty of if, "You wear them we'll replace them." Best Darn Socks.
I bought these "Darn Tough socks" about a month ago. I had REI credit and I thought ok I will try them. What a difference. The quality of these socks is amazing. The phrase you get what you pay for is exactly what you get from these socks. They are not inexpensive, but when compared to every other sock especially hiking socks. These socks are worth it. The comfort they give your feet is worth the sock cost. I am 47 and I have had foot pain. These socks make a world of difference on a long hike. If you have ever had foot pain after a climb or backpacking the cushion and not waking up with aching feet is wonderful.
I bought the lime variation several months ago as part of upgrading my gear for a backpacking trip on Isle Royale. I was very happy with their performance on the trip and I'm definitely going to continue wearing them for outdoor adventures! I used to wear cotton socks, and while cotton has a lower temperature for me while I'm at rest, my cotton socks would emerge from my boots soaked after a hike. These merino wool socks have a higher temperature at rest, but while active, the socks keep my feet from sweating and my feet remain comfortable. For activities such as backpacking, I have to highly recommend merino wool and these socks. These socks offer cushioning on the toes, bottom of the foot, ankle, and part-way up the leg. I have found that this works well for hiking. I don't think cushioning is necessary on the top of the foot for what I do and this helps reduce the temperature of my feet a little bit more. I do use the socks a lot and the outside leg portion has become a bit fuzzy after repeated wear and washings. I suspect some of that is from my hiking boots. I recommend following Darn Tough's care instructions to wash them inside out as I think it would help with the wear. But, I'll continue using them and put Darn Tough's lifetime warranty to the test! Overall, they have been a great sock and I do recommend them.
I went on a three week trek in Nepal (Manaslu Trek Circuit) with only three pairs of Darn Tough Socks. They worked great. I poured sweat into those suckers, and hand washed them when I got the chance at the end of the day. I usually let them dry on my pack during the day. They dry insanely fast. I didn't even have to put on two layers of socks for warmth when we got up to higher elevations and colder temperatures. I still use them on hikes and stuff locally. Great socks.
I don’t leave very many reviews. Something has to be really bad or really incredible. These socks are truly incredible in their design and comfort. I’ve worn all the major sock brands out there. Smartwool, woolrich, icebreaker, puma, Nike, etc. None of them are as good as darn tough socks. These socks are so comfortable I can wear them all day. I’ve used them on backpacking trips where my feet are constantly sweating and drying and they perform flawlessly. I wear them around the house in the winter in Colorado and they are so comfortable and convenient. I can wear them multiple days in a row without washing thanks to the wool properties. The height on these socks is perfect for my 9” boots. Do yourself a favor and buy a pair or two. You won’t be disappointed.
I took two pairs of Darn Tough hikers on an 85 day Nepal trek following the Great Himalayan Trail in the fall of 2014. I learned that good socks are worth the extra money and these are good socks! No bunching, no blisters. Always a great fit. After 55 days I left one pair hanging on the back of a door to dry. It was weeks later before I was even able to buy a cheap replacement so I could wash my one remaining pair of Vermont's; which I still wore the minute they dried. When I got home one they had a quarter inch hole in the heel. As rather a test I sent them back to Darn Tough and had a new pair in a few weeks! We have an eight day Grand Canyon hike in a few weeks and a hike of the John Muir trial this fall. I just bought another six pair and plan to wear only Darn Tough in town and on the trail from now on. They just make my feet feel good.
I've been wearing Darn Toughs almost exclusively for over 2 years now, and they're by far the best socks I've ever worn. They don't bunch up or shift on my feet, I've gone 7 days wearing the same pair without them smelling bad or feeling funky on my feet, and they're as comfortable after 2 years as they were when new. They fit closely, so unlike some other brands that don't they don't give me blisters or hot spots when wearing my Sorel Conquests with the Achilles strap tightened. I'm slowly phasing out all my other brands of socks as they wear out, because none of them are as comfortable as Darn Tough. I can't wait to try out the Mountaineering socks in my Sorel Conquests while snowshoeing this winter, they feel thick enough to take the last little bit of slop out and make them fit like my Fugitives.
I have written a review on another Darn Tough sock and will just say these are the best fitting socks I've ever worn likely because they fit "10-12" and not a broader range as most company's will. Also, I've worn them 11 straight 8 hour days and they were odorless because the wool is a natural odor inhibitor. As my other socks wear out I am only buying Darn Tough as replacements. Greatest socks I've ever worn.
Extremely comfortable wool stockings, XXL fits big and tall users well.
Bought 3 pair for backpacking. Now they are my every day sock. Can't wear them out, comfortable, lifetime replacement, pretty stylish.... What's not to like? Best socks I've ever owned.
