The North Face  Base Camp Duffel - X-Large

If you never had the old North Face duffel you might like this one. Compared to the old one, (which I bought some 20 yrs., ago and still have) this new one is chintzy, and unworkable. The side handles on the new one are 6 inches long and it is impossible to carry with them when the bag is loaded. The old one had 20 inch side handles which were riveted on plus a heavy duty shoulder strap. The new one has removable backpack straps which cannot be used to carry the bag by hand. It is inferior in every way to the old bag. North Face you have made a bag that was the best on the market into an awkward big backpack. Such a disappointment.

Yes, they're iconic, but they're by no means perfected. End up having to drag this bag as much as I carry it. A chest strap alone would be an enormous addition to this bag--and so simply integrated to the current design.

I bought this bag because I was tired of wheel bags breaking and being so heavy. I recently took this bag on a trip to Alaska for a week and used it to take everything I would need. I brought a pair of snow boots size 13, 4 pairs of jens, and shirts, long socks, and underwhere one for each day. I also brought in it a sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and a pillow. carrying this bag isn't as hard as most people think. I brought a backpack and a guitar so I only had one free hand. You can either carry the bag with one hand or where it like a baby holder. I did both and found that even though you look strange, wearing the bag like a baby holder was best. The bag is durable and the straps are comfortable and easily removable. I would defiantly buy this bag again but I dont think it'll give out anytime soon.

This duffel is heavy duty, ideal when you're very loaded and have to travel by plane. To me it's more convenient than carrying everything on your 60L backpack, as it's more resistant and you're not exposing the backpack itself to be managed at an airport.

Awesome bag. I have twins and we were going to fly to another city. I get lots of help from my wife but i do carry a lot of items. I was looking for a bag I could wear simlilar to a backpack. And I found it. I had a great trip.

We bought this because we needed to transport a super heavy-duty item in a plane. It looked too big - but was just perfect. Excellent construction and excellent proportions!

I have two of these bags, one XL and one L. They are great for dumping gear in and the bag is super tough. Also has shoulder straps to make it easy to carry.

Cannot recommend the durability and usefulness of this wonderful bag. It’s the best bag ever.
