Durable, Functional, Slim Fitting
Found this jacket while browsing a store in Salt Lake City and came across this stunning jacket. It looks really cool and feels very durable. I own a pair of Kuhl pants and they've lasted a very long time, so you can expect the same out of this jacket. Now I normally order jackets and coats XL, but I got the jacket in a large and it fits perfectly. I'm also very tall and thin and its the perfect length on my arms as well as my torso. I gave it 5 stars because of the quality. Like most of Kuhls products, they are a little pricy but very much worth it. A great investment for a jacket that will last you years.
Nice Jacket: "Gunmetal" is Green, not Gray
This is a very nice mid-weight jacket. But, if you are looking for a gray jacket do not purchase this product in "gunmetal" as it has a forest green hue.
It says "Kuhl" on it 21 times.
Pros: -Craftsmanship -Material selection is outstanding (subtle differences inside vs. outside show level of detail and thought put into this jacket) -Feels durable -looks good -Slight "tail" in the back keeps you covered across the belt -Comes in several nice colors -- however REI only stocks 2 colors in their retail stores (all others online only). Cons: -Pockets are waaay too shallow. You can't get your whole hand in them. The picture on this page of the model trying to put his hand in the pocket accurately shows the limitation. -It is cut like a suit jacket at the shoulders. This means you can't really raise your arms at the shoulder or the whole jacket crumples upward. So, not fashionable if you are often involved in a stick-up. -It says "Kuhl" on it 21 times. Yes, I counted, and yes, most of them are inside so not an issue like it is with their pants. But typical Kuhl -- they often turn their customers into unpaid walking billboards.
Great jacket, Hobbit-sized hand pockets
Just bought this jacket from my local REI. I'm 6'3", 220lbs, 46" chest, 36 waist and purchased an XL. Close fit, probably could fit a medium thickness sweater over my shirt underneath it but that's about it. Or I could shed some holiday pounds. But I digress. Echoing another reviewer, the hand pockets are strangely small...I would go so far as to call them 3/4 hand pockets. If Kuhl plans on updating this bug (feature?) soon, I'll return this jacket and happily wait for the updated version. Waffled between getting the brown or the espresso color, bought the espresso and am very pleased, although I'd probably be equally pleased with the brown color. But seriously: the hand pockets could really use a bit more room. Otherwise a seriously nice, windproof, good-fitting jacket.
Really good, but not great
This is a very comfortable jacket, fits well, and looks good. By all accounts, it is a very good jacket for a lot of fall weather type events. It has a nice moto feel to it, and I just put it through about 40 miles on my bike with temps in the low 60's - felt great. I think it would work into the low 40's for walking around use. I found the sleeves to be good (I wear 33") and the neck comfortable (I'm 16"). The chest feels comfortable, but not roomy (I'm 39"). A nice fitting overall shape... but there is something that doesn't quite do it. I also own the Kollusion that Kuhl makes - and it is head and SHOULDERS better looking, but doesn't perform in weather as well. So... one looks great, the other does a better job. Chose the jacket for the experience you want I suppose. -SN
Great Travel Jacket
Perfect weight travel jacket. I have been on several trips to Europe in the early spring and this jacket with a regular long sleeve shirt underneath is just the right weight for cool mornings and won't get too hot on long walks or for warm afternoons. I just bought my second Burr jacket. The first one became a work jacket because with a t-shirt underneath it breaths well for more strenuous activities. Outside breast pocket is perfect for wallet or passport. Inside pocket is great for a mobile phone, tickets etc. All pockets zip for security. I hope they keep making this forever.
Good jacket, but could be better- just nitpicking
Very happy with fit etc. it's overall a good product but feel there was a little oversight on minor details that people may want to know about. - zipper pulls are flimsy... wouldn't be surprised if it bends or breaks. No big deal, you can make or buy a zipper pull. - main side pockets literally only have enough room for your hands. Most people carry a phone everywhere they go nowadays ... I don't have big hands , but there's no room for my hands and iPhone at same time. If my phone is in it.... it regularly falls out because the pockets are shallow.
My new favorite jacket
I just picked this up in-store, and it's my new favorite jacket. The vintage style - I got the black - of the dye isn't mentioned online, but it's an excellent finish. The lining makes it warm, but it'd take a few layers to go sub-freezing. Wearing it over a t-shirt in the low 50's, and it keeps me warm. Notice: It runs large. I usually wear a medium, but a small is just roomy enough on me for layers or a dress shirt beneath it.
Excellent light jacket
Rugged, stylish and comfortable, this is a perfect jacket for any occasion save rain and cold under 45 degrees. The fit is ideal with the articulation at the elbows and armpits which allows for easy arm movement. I purchased a large and at (give or take) 200lbs, it’s fairly form fitting. You could probably do a cartwheel in it as you can raise your arms above your head. Perfect for riding. It’s also considerably warmer than the weight would suggest. It seems to function well as a windbreaker in that regard. The main pockets are fleece lined which is always nice on cooler nights. Maybe this is just me but I feel as if this jacket needs to have the collar popped at all times or it’s somehow just not as awesome. Personal preference obviously. Khul won me over with this product.
Impulse purchase - great jacket
Eyeballed Carhartt's for years, but after I saw this on the rack and tried it on, I left the store and drove back to consummate the purchase. Got the espresso color - looks like a biker jacket. Rugged and mountain look, very comfortable and gets double takes all the time. I never heard of Kuhl until I bought this jacket. Reminds me of the cold weather coats the USMC issued us at Officer Candidate School (Quantico, VA). It's a go-to coat!
