Hiking 30 deg
I wore this vest and a light flannel. 30 degrees and this vest kept me from sweating and from being cold. The quality is top notch and it’s very functional. Spend the extra money for something like this, you will get a lot of use out of it.
Great for any occasion
I have been searching for a vest that fits well and keeps a more dressy look (the poofy ones are fine for a hike, but not so much for social occasions). I have a lot of problems fitting vest, as the small fitts my torso better, but the armholes tend to be binding in my armpits (6'1, 160, 30 waist), and they tend to be too short. This one fits great all around, is warm but not hot, and looks good with just about anything. I have a Patagonia fleece 1/4 snap from 1983 that is still going strong, so I suspect that this one has long legs.
Warm and comfortable
The Patagonia replaces a Mountain Hardware Windstopper fleece vest I wore for years and loved. This garment appears at least as good and a bit warmer, though I have yet to test it under below freezing conditions or under a shell. It does look like a sweater with a hint of cabling on the exterior. The inside is fleece with some loft as opposed to my previous vest. Build quality appears excellent. In Norcal, this is perfect for running out to the store in a t-shirt, hikes in 40-50 degree weather, and sitting around watching volleyball in cold gyms. I do wish the zippers had pulls to make it easier to open with glove liners on. I added some myself. I am 5'10" and 180 lbs. with an average/athletic build and prefer a closer fitting vest. A medium fit nicely with a snug torso. The large left a bit too much room around the arm holes.
Kicking around town or in the office
I've never found down/fleece vests to be very useful in a cold outdoors setting. But when it's just cool in town or in a chilly office, this is perfect for keeping me warm. From a fashion viewpoint, I like it because it's not too dressy or casual. Also, it's not as bulky as the Synchilla vest and doesn't have as large a collar. The material is pretty interesting. It is reminiscent of a knit sweater but the weave is tight and so far not prone to unraveling or pilling.
Deceivingly warm layer
This is the perfect layer for under a rain shell on a wet chilly day. It's quite warm, low maintenance, sturdy construction. Worth the ticket $$. I'm 5'9" 155lbs and medium fits like a glove.
Perfect for early Fall hikes
I have a closet full of fleece jackets but this vest is the ideal garment to wear over a flannel shirt for fall hiking, as well as "casual Fridays" in the office. Typical high-quality Patagonia fit and finish, wearing very well so far. Just bought it a month ago or so ago, but it has already become one of of my favorites - wore it almost every day during a recent 10-day European vacation.
Great dress vest
The vest is the standard Patagonia quality that we have come to expect. It looks great for work dress casual days and is a perfect thickness for warmth without being too hot. Unfortunately the vest does not have a trim fit. If you are athletically built with a slender waist, the vest will fit in the chest and shoulders and will be large in the waist area.
Perfect layer
I really like this vest. The fit is great. The feel is comfortable, It's soft, warm and looks sharp.
Great layer
I've been needing to get another vest for awhile now and saw this good looking one online. It goes without saying that Patagonia makes great gear and this vest is no exception. The fit is great and works great as a layer for any kind of weather from mildly cool to cold. I like the fact that you have great freedom of movement for when you need to be active and if you need to you can easily add or take off a layer depending on how warm you're feeling. Really good product and it looks good too.
Great design... poor execution
Saw it, bought it, and loved it. After 3 weeks, mild use, and a gentle wash the material is badly pilling around the inside collar. At this pricepoint it should not be so fragile. Don't think I was too demanding (casual wear only). I may take this one back.
