Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid duffel So far so good with this duffel. Worked great for a week long ski trip. Managed to pack ski boots, base layers, outer layers, and casual clothes. I did pack fairly light in regards to non ski related items. Appears to be an extremely rugged and durable exterior, although I only have one trip under my belt with this bag so far, and I ordered in one of their brighter color combinations to make it easier to see when picking it up from baggage claim. Definitely sticks out versus the typical plain black luggage. It's cutting it close but I was able to carry-on this bag on my flight back without them giving me any hassle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Bag! I recently bought this bag for a week long trip I just took to Guatemala. This bag is amazing! The quality is great and it stood up well. It doesn't even look like it's been used. With this trip I was on we did a lot of traveling around the country, in and out of hotels and a bus, and the backpack straps made it amazing to get around with. We flew all carry on and this bag had no problems getting through security and being in the overhead compartments. Having the backpack straps also made it great wandering through airports! Would highly recommend this bag to anyone!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Bag Admittedly I haven't had a chance to put it through its paces yet – I ordered this size in the black/yellow coloring because I think it'll be perfect as the one bag I pack for my 9 weeks in India this summer. It's a perfect size and the coloring is beautiful to look at. 4 stars instead of five purely because the backpack straps that come with it came completely detached on mine (though I hear for some people that it came attached on theirs). It was kind of a pain to put on since there weren't instructions ANYWHERE on the internet for it but after about 45 minutes and lots of cussing, I finally figured it out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect duffel bag for a carry on! I just got back from a two week trip to Europe and this pack was so wonderful to have during my time abroad. The backpack straps worked very well for me. When flying back home on European airlines, I did check in my bag at the gate because the plane was full of carry-ons. Besides this, the bag fit well in the overhead compartment, and with a little Sea to Summit travel soap to reuse my clothes, this bag fit all that I needed for the trip. I would highly recommend this bag!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and durable I bought a new BH Duffel 60L upon discovering my typical roller-board luggage was broken and no longer travel worthy. I opted for the 60L because the dimensions will fit into the overhead space for most larger planes, and can also be checked at the gate. I like to avoid pre-checked baggage when traveling due to the fees, time, and hassle of possibly lost luggage. The 60L is slightly larger than most roller-boards (17" class), but the simple durable design makes for so much more packing room. It's great for a lightly packed week-long trip - or a heavy geared weekend. The shoulder/backpack straps take a little practice to install and remove, but work great when you need to haul foot across an airport, or take a long walk to basecamp to set up. I highly recommend this bag, it will take you to some great places!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best duffel for the size. I just bought the 60l Black Hole and love it. The build is amazing and the features are perfect as well. The material is super durable, but flexible as well. I have the Marmot Long Hauler in the 50l and in comparison, the Black Hole is a better bag. Even though it is 10l larger, it feels like a smaller bag. And the material of the Marmot, while nice, is a bit too thick for my tastes. The thickness lends itself to developing permanent creases and dead spots, which I know will lead to future tears or holes. It does have a lifetime warranty, but I'd rather have the build of the Patagonia. As far as the backpack straps go, they are SUPER easy to remove. I've read a few reviews with people having troubles with them and by looking at a set of pictures in one review, I can tell why. You do NOT shove the D-ring through the buckle, but slide the buckle THROUGH the D-ring. Takes about a second to do each side. I highly recommend this product. Expensive, yes. But I have no doubts it will last for a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bag for Lightweight Travel What a fantastic bag for lightweight travel! Used it on a 14 day safari in Africa where we had weight restrictions on various small plans. Worked fantastic. I cannot over-emphasize the benefit of the backpack straps being on top of the bag and not on the base which could get dirty (especially in Africa) Not a lot frills but used one packing cube which worked well. It is well made and still looks new after the trip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Bag Is Awesome Well well well I bought this bag about 3 weeks ago and the thing is Awesome I wish I could give it 6 stars Pros: -it's got an awesome outer shell that helps keep water out in the snow -it's super roomy I can pack winter clothes for like 4 days in there - it's got these straps on the inside that hold stuff down - the straps are perfect for when you wear it as a backpack or I sometimes use them to keep stuff separate - there's a small pocket access stuff from the outside -Tons of videos on YouTube to help you figure it out -folds into small pouch easily Cons: - I had to watch a YouTube video to figure out installing the straps but I figured it out - You'll never want to fold it into the pouch because it's too awesome looking - It'll cost you money because the thing just makes you want to travel and use it everywhere Buy the thing it's awesome

Can this case be used as a carry-on or is it too long.  I almost looks too fragile check it on a plane.

Asked by: Bainbridgejim
I have used it as a carry on many times without a problem. It is smaller than most of the rolling carry on bags I have seem as well.

Is the bottom of this duffel waterproof? I have the 60L and the bottom section is *looks* like it is not waterproof (doesnt have the same shiny fabric). If I set this bag down in an inch of standing water would the material inside will get wet?

Asked by: HokieCamper
The 60 liter Black Hole Duffel is not fully waterproof. The fabric on the bag has a DWR finish but the seams are not sealed.

Will this work for a 14 day African safari. Or is there a lighter bag which would be better.

Asked by: Suzy
This is a great choice for a 14 day trip, but whether or not it will work for you does depend quite a bit on everything you will be packing.
