Sleek, Yet Rugged
I wanted a backpack for commuting that was a little more "grown-up" than my old behemoth of a backpack with all sorts of bungees and stuff I didn't need hanging from it. This pack seemed to fit the bill. It stows my laptop & iPad neatly in their own compartments, with plenty of room for a mouse & power cables, notebooks, paperwork and a few random odds and ends. It's sleek profile makes it easy to stow under airplane seats -- with plenty of room to stuff my purse in next to it. Dual access to the main compartment makes going through TSA checkpoints a breeze. It's held up remarkably well and is in practically perfect condition after almost 6 months of daily use.
Goodbye Timbuk2!
I was looking at this bag a few days ago, thinking to myself, "This is the best thing that happened to me in 2015!" I LOVE this bag! After years of Timbuk2 messenger bags and a backpack style bag, I wanted something hands free with some bells and whistles. This bag is compact, but roomy. It holds my laptop and a large stack of file folders, notebooks, etc. There are separate places for glasses (hard case on side), pens and pencils, computer and phone cords, water bottle, and an assortment of miscellaneous items (band-aids and chapstick!) I especially love the zippered side, so I can access all items in the large compartment easily. Great quality and perfectly designed. Did I already mention that I love this bag?
Worthless pack design
I've been using this piece of junk for several years now, and the only reason I haven't replied it is the construction is excellent. It certainly won't fall apart. That's the best thing about it. The worst design flaw is that loaded the dumb thing can't be stood up. It falls over with any old, bottom heavy doesn't matter. The interior pocket is the pits as it blocks easy loading and access. The sunglass/tech hard case constantly is a struggle to zip closed. The pack is hard to adjust to carry a load properly, not that it matters much since it can't be easily packed either. Seriously one of the worst designed light packs I have ever used.
Hello Bill, I'm sorry to hear the Thule Subterra 25L did not meet your expectations! Thule designs many different backpacks to meet a wide variety of user needs and lifestyles. It seems this model was not a great match. The Thule Subterra 25L is a very streamlined, minimalist commuter-style backpack. While it doesn't have some of the features of other bags in Thule's lineup, it is designed for those looking for the most efficient way to get from home to the office with as little extra bulk as possible. I recommend checking out some of the larger backpacks in Thule's catalog, like the Crossover 2 30L. This backpack also features a rigid bottom that helps it stand upright for loading.
Awesome Bag
I cannot find any reviews on this bag anywhere on the internet, and was a little hesitant about buying. I have now been using about a month and I love it. It is a great back and seem pretty durable. It got some water on it the other day and it all just beaded off (not sure if that will last or not, but good to see since it isnt listed as water resistant that I can find).
Great Backpack
Just received my green version a week or so ago. My old laptop backpack was much bigger and I travel a lot and wanted something smaller, that would still hold all my gear. This is a great size and holds my MacBook Pro 15inch with cover, iPad Pro 12 Inch with cover and keyboard case, all adapters and many other supplies. Love the side zippers including the laptop compartment zipper to make it easier at TSA security in airports. So far, feels very good when being carried and I am a long time Thule fan with luggage and bike racks all front them. I highly recommend this as a mid sized backpack to travel with.
Well designed and perfect for commuting and more
This bag is exactly what I was looking for! A pack that wasn't too bulky that I could carry lunch, workout clothes, and a few items for work. This pack does it all and with so many well designed features like the side zips, the sunglass hard shell pocket and the easy to access front pockets. As well as not looking like a kids backpack, this pack goes with me to work, the gym, and even on short weekend trips. Great all around pack that I've been looking for and wont need another pack for a long time!
Basically perfect
I'm a backpack geek, and I just got a new Macbook Pro 15". So of course, I'm going bag shopping, and also of course I'm going to REI! I found this bag in my local store, which has a huge selection. It was on an endcap so I found it right away, but I still took the time to inspect basically every other candidate in the store. Nothing came even close for my wants and needs. NEEDS: Padded laptop section that would fit my "big boy"; water bottle holder; easy access to main compartment (jacket stuffing and unstuffing); easy access pockets for sundries; will easily fit under seat on an airplane. This bag covered all the bases, and then some! WANTS: Place where I can keep my sunglasses; comfortable fit; stylish looks. Check, check, and check! This bag has the best sunglasses compartment on the market, really a killer feature for me. BONUS: Again, the sunglasses holder was an awesome surprise. I also really like the different ways of accessing items in the main compartment. It's so easy to get things in and out of this bag, which is a little detail that adds up over time. I especially like the zipper on the backside of the bag to slide the laptop out without having to dig past anything else in the main compartment. I also like the expandable vertical pocket on the front, great for an Apple charger plus anything else (wallet, phone). If you want more secure wallet/phone storage, there are good options on the inside as well. So basically, this is an amazing laptop-carrying backpack. It checks all the right boxes and throws in some pleasant surprises as well. If you're going to be flying with your laptop, you can't go wrong with this bag.
Would buy again. My item was probably defective.
Overall a great backpack for school, hiking, and traveling. Looks amazing and functions just as well. The multiple compartments and access to these compartments is well thiught out. My only issue is that the adjustment straps for the shoulder straps always loosen on its own when I'm carrying a heavier load. The strap stoppers (don't know what they're called) don't bite the strap at all, and I've resorted to tying them down. This gets to be annoying, especially when I need to adjust the length for different purposes. Also, the side mesh pocket is thin and easily ripped. Otherwise a very functionsl pack.
A Decade Strong
A near perfect top-loading backpack for all occasions. The adjustable top lets you accommodate packing lists of all sizes — use it as a rugged daypack for carrying gear or stuff enough clothes in to last the weekend. Perfect amount of features and pockets that help the utility without making it seem over-engineered. I have backpacks that cost twice as much as this one and I still find myself grabbing it in when I need something familiar, flexible, and reliable. After ten years of mistreatment it shows very few signs of wear although it has accumulated character the way a good rucksack should.
Almost perfect
I've had this bag since 2019, now over 5 years on it's still my everyday bag for laptop/work as well as light travel/carry-on or riding my bike around town. It's showing almost no signs of wear despite the regular use and I'm thrilled with it! The only small complaint I have that I've been dealing with since the beginning is the strange decision to recess the clips on the front flap so I can't actually grab them to snap them. I still find myself clawing at them from the sides and pushing sideways just to get enough purchase on them to provide resistance for the snap. Such a strange design. But, like I said, the durability and functionality of the bag in every other way overshadows that minor issue.
