TIME BOMB GRIP BAR. Might break out of nowhere
Bar end Broke and i got injured but Ergon said "u didn't install it perfect" not my problem while riding with my hands on the grip bar... the bar broke out of nowhere and i lost my balance and crashed. Ergon said its not their problem i should have installed it better.... HAHAHA i did check the paper and made sure its installed correctly to the torque... I would stay away from ERGON. you can't check what damage is going on inside of the grip...and the grip might just fail and broke and kick you out of the bicycle and possibly ending up killing you if you are riding following the traffic..... very scary time bomb
Better Than Anticipated!
I converted an old beater to a very nice "fitness bike." I wanted to keep the miles off my nice road bike so, I began riding my old fitness bike. Everything on that old bike was great except for one thing: it was uncomfortable to ride. So, after investigating how to possibly make that bike more comfortable, I replaced the saddle, the pedals, and the grips. These Ergon GP3 grips are really great - they make a big difference in comfort and they expand the options for positioning my hands while riding. After a few more miles I might try changing the angle of the "horns" &/or the main grip - changing both of those angles is quick, easy and provides a secure position for both items. Yes, these grips are not cheap but I totally love them - highly recommended.
Chef's kiss for your wrists
Brompton let me down with some truly terrible stock grips and my wrists went numb after 5 minutes of the first ride so I picked these Ergon grips up. They are so comfortable and I will never go back to any other grip. I don't use the horns as often as I thought but its nice to have them for longer rids. Tip: (this most likely voids a warranty but) I trimmed them with a box cutter, otherwise they hit the ground when you fold up the bike.
Wonderful product, flawed reality
I purchased these for my new bike last fall, excited about the design and quality, and finally installed them last week after assembling the custom bike's cockpit. Despite an apparently perfect fit, a proper installation, and tightening the hex bolts as much as I could, it was still possible for the grips to rotate on the bars. This is obviously an annoyance as well as a safety problem. I tried abrading the bar ends for better friction (on a Nitto steel handlebar) but it didn't help. In the end, I had to switch to Bontrager bar ends and a cork wrap. These cheaper bar ends are secure, but I miss the ergonomic aspect of the Ergon product.
Well worth it...
Bought these to replace the thin stock grips on a new commuter bike. Super comfortable, easily twice the weight bearing surface area of a standard style grip, and the bar ends are more useful than they might appear. For correct installation, the grip must be pushed all the way onto the bar. There is a black stop ring in the end of the grip, just 1/16" wide (Not the wider, green ring which is the lock ring). If the bar does not extend to the stop ring, the grip will not tighten.
Big change in riding comfort.
I replaced round grips with bar ends on my mountain bike with these. I use bar ends a lot for climbing and the three finger grip is adequate. The palm/ wrist support is great once I got the angle right for me--instructions say to install, ride a bit, and adjust, which is what it took to get it right. The grips are confident over rough terrain and shifter/ brake access feels nearly the same. I did see some reviews saying installation was hard with the clamp not going all the way on the bar-- I had to move my shifter in about a 1/4 inch to install. As long as you have the recommended diameter (standard bar, 22 mm) and enough straight space on the bar-- (about 4 inches), it should be no problem if you can adjust shifter/ brake location in or out on the bar--.
Much more comfortable ride
I bought my Ghost Speedline 2 in August and was immediately aware my hands were going to take a beating on our roads in here South GA. My previous bike, a 22+ year old Diamondback Mountain bike, cushy soft grips that made the bumps more forgiving. I can't speak to the ease or dis-ease of installation of the grips as I paid the REI bike shop $5 just to put them on for me when I had my bike tuned up this past Saturday. But the ride comfort has been immediate.
Fantastic grips to alleviate ulnar nerve pain
I deal with wrist, arm, and elbow pain due to issues with my ulnar nerve. Riding my mountain bike with standard grips on a flat bar would limit me to short rides due to this. My fingers would be numb after 10 miles. I recently got these grips, and have done two 50 mile rides with no numbness in my fingers. Highly recommended!
Great value and a comfortable ride
I bought this for a long ride on the GAP and CNO trails. REI installed them for free, which was a real plus. I like the gel grips and the adjustable tips. This product allows me to change positions if I get tired.
AWESOME Grips for a Brompton!
I purchased these for my brand new Brompton M6L in black. These are AWESOME!!! I love the feel of the grips and the ability to change positions. I find that climbing with the bar ends is great! It tends to open up my chest more and let me breathe when I am climbing. Great fit, build quality and feel.
