Storm--no problem

On my first use of the Rapidshelter, a very unusual August wind and rainstorm hit the Oregon coast location where we were camping. I probably should have taken the shelter down to protect my investment, but that wouldn't have been so easy in the wind. I did add some additional stakes. It's true, as another reviewer wrote, that the small stakes that come packaged with the Rapidshelter are totally inadequate for anchoring such a large canopy. I purchased 4 spike-type stakes for $1 each, and when the wind kicked up I added more stakes (there are two large holes in each sturdy foot). It held, and no damage was done to the shelter in the 24 hours that the winds persisted. In our campground we saw several other pop-ups in ruin, and a park truck drove by heaped with mangled lightweight pop-up frames. Rapidshelter passed its trial by wind!

I bought this to replace a 12 year old EZ-UP after seeing one at a swim meet last year. I agree the build quality is really good, but this is a big, heavy piece of equipment and the storage bag doesn't have wheels like every other canopy bag I've ever seen. I returned it as transporting this 200-300 yards like we often need to do will be pretty much impossible for my wife if I'm not going to the same event. Also, unlike my EZUP of the same 10' size, this is too long to put sideways in the back of our Honda Odyssey. I would have to fold down the rear seat to carry it lengthwise in the van, eliminating 2 seating positions which are precious with carpooling other teammates.

Tough as Nails and Roomy

I've had my shelter for over two years. I've used it camping and for other events (soccer etc). It's easy to set up and stow - if you have multiple adults. It's nearly impossible alone. My young son can help me and my wife, but it's a challenge. It's got great coverage, and shows little wear other than stains to the fabric from trees. The negatives are brief, but to be considered: 1) the carry bag is flimsy, 2) it's a heavy sucker to carry and 3) you might as well replace the stakes when you buy it (REI's steel stakes are perfect). I do wish the side panels were less expensive. Otherwise, this shelter is fantastic! I now have two.

Heavy-duty (and I mean heavy) shelter

We recently purchased this shelter while planning a car-camping trip when the forecast called for rain. Yes, it rained--heavily. And yes, the Caddis Rapid Shelter kept our picnic-table area dry. The shelter is big and heavy -- I had to fold down one of the seats in my Subaru Forester in order to transport it. And it took all four of us to put it up, though with practice I bet we could do it with two. (Tip: do as we did and put the fabric cover on the shelter before you leave home -- that was the hardest part.) The great news is that the shelter stayed up during heavy wind and rain and kept all our gear dry. The bad news is that our tent flooded, but that's another story. Time to go tent shopping!

When you need it most

I love this Rapid shelter. You never know how much you really apriciate something until the time comes that you need it the most. I had this thing set up last week at a Saturday market event thinking it would keep me shaded. Well, the sky's opened up and dumped heavy rain on us. I was so impressed with the fact that I did not have a single leak at all. I can't say that for the people around me that settled for lesser shelters. Along with this, I feel that this is without any doubt the best one on the market at any price. I have used this almost every weekend for 6 months now and it has held up great. Yes, it is heavy but it has to be to get the job done.

Poor Quality Tarp

I purchased this a little less than a year ago, and have only used it about four times. After minimal use in very mild conditions (no wind, no rain) the tarp has started to form multiple rips. I am disappointed in the lack of quality.

No ordinary pop up

I purchased this to use as a sunblock over a tent for an open field camping festival in Michigan known to have high winds and brutal direct sun. Compared to most on the market this unit is very heavy. However the wind didn’t move it once while the other brands in the field twisted or crushed others. My tent stayed cool so I could sleep in after a long festival night. Set up/breakdown is strait forward and easy. The top is thick and high quality. I did not purchase the walls for this (hung colorful tapestries instead). I definitely recommend this shelter and will use it for shade on scuba trips and more festivals.

Excellent Pop-up Tent

The Caddis Rapid Shelter is very easy to set-up. I've even done it solo without any help. The tent is incredibly sturdy and the design of the top ensures solid rain shedding without any pooling like I've seen with other ez-up style tents. While it is heavier and bulkier than other similar tents on the market, it ensures durability and helps weigh the tent down in the wind. ALWAYS stake this tent down!! I made that mistake and accidentally damaged two of the legs. Caddis has excellent customer service and replaced both of the legs FREE OF CHARGE!!! Caddis has earned a lifetime customer here. Highly recommend!

A Must Have!

I purchased an ez-up shelter for a trip to the beach with the family, but while we were using it the frame to the leg bent from a small wind gust and the hardware for the frame cracked. ill never buy a ez-up shelter again, and i wont recommend them either. A close friend told me about there Caddis Rapid Shelter the got from REI and how the've had it for almost 5 years now with no problems at all. So i bought one! This shelter is so strong! by far much more stable than the ez-up shelter that broke on me. The Quality of this shelter meets all my expectations by far! and if anyone wants a shelter that holds up, this is what id recommend. Quality over Quantity im sure this Caddis Rapid Shelter will last much longer than the cheaply made imposters out there. Thanks

withstood rain and wind so far

I actually bought this cover to be able to work under it with tools for protection from sun and rain. After having a much cheaper brand fail in a gust of wind, I am impressed so far with this one. The quality seems very promising, with the legs having a nice "beefy" feel. I staked mine to the ground with spikes (big nails, the size of a little finger, and around 10" long) and it has taken some good wind in stride. I wouldn't trust the original stakes to hold it. Also we have had a rainy June so far and it sheds water like a champ, allowing me to leave tools under it with confidence.

Heavy Duty - Great Product and Service

I bought this Canopy at the end of this past winter and used it fomr a couple of events I had and couldnt be happier with the quality along with the size and price of it. I recently Broke one of the footplates and contacted the manufacturer directly and they were more then helpful with supplying me with replacements and did it quickly with no hesitation. Having a Roller bag would be nice but I know for $18 you can get one of the portable Luggage racks with wheels from walmart and works just as good if not better. Thank you.
