Great hiking companion
While this pack is intended for use mountain biking, I purchased this for hiking. Took it out for a 10 mile, 2500 ft gain, hike in the Mt. Hood wilderness this weekend and it worked beautifully! Even with the bladder full, this pack is lightweight. The larger compartment easily fit my small first aid kit, emergency blanket, lunch and snacks - with enough room for more (a book or very light layer...or more snacks). The smaller front compartment has a zipper compartment and other pockets that are great for phone, ID, keys, etc. Plus more snacks (I bring a lot of snacks on hikes). There is an open pocket between the large and small, which I used to store a light layer but you could also tuck an extra water bottle. There is also an extra little pocket between the reservoir and large compartment's where you can stuff a snack bar (can you tell I like snacks?) or something. The chest and waist straps were perfect on me (I am a 32 FF) BUT I also have a short torso so packs tend to sit differently on me than other women.
Excellent Product
I bought this backpack for my daily inline skating. This backpack is light weight, water proof (tested in downpour), and provides great storage, and the easy MPS pocket at the top is just big enough to fit my Iphone 6S plus (only a bumper case). I would like to see a few improvements with this bag: 1. The ability to adjust where the chest strap will lay across your chest. I read reviews that it was uncomfortable, I would say just awkward and not uncomfortable. 2. I would really love to have some side pockets on this bag, that I could easily stash items instead of having to stop and take off my bag to access smaller items. But overall this is a great bag. Having access to hydration easily has increased my inline skating from 6 miles daily to 12 miles daily. I do not need to slow down or stop to access my water. I know this will become my favorite bag over the summer months with not only skating, but hiking, summer concerts and amusements parks. This is definitely a great investment!
Great Pack But Needs Needs Improvements
I exchanged this pack for the Camelbak Magic because of one thing in particular. The chest strap on the LUXE is too low and sits uncomfortably right on top of your chest (my boobs felt strapped down, but not in a good way). I don't have a big chest either so I can only imagine how it would feel for anyone bigger (for reference I'm a 34C). The Magic has the chest strap positioned higher and did not rest on top of my chest so it was much more comfortable and worked out well for my needs since I don't technically need the extra storage. I've trained for marathons in the past without a hydration pack but for my long runs I wanted to try using a hydration pack rather than planting water bottles ahead of time (too much work!). Other than that it is a good pack but just be aware of comfort before you commit to one in particular. Try loading it with stuff/weights in the pack because trying on a pack with nothing in it won't give you a very accurate representation of how it'll actually feel. If you're trying on packs in the store I recommend jogging a little as well.
