Great, warm and comfy wetshoe
I bought these shoes about 6 month ago and wore them Sup-ing, kayaking, canyoneering and swimming. The design is good, they are extremely comfortable and keep you warm. When canyoning I sometimes have to walk a couple of km/miles in sometimes very rough terrain and so far, no real wear and tear. On wet rock they rock - you got extremely good grip. I bought them a little bigger so i can ft in them with neoprene socks, with those i spend hours in about 40 degree warm water and was not cold. I can definitely recommend these boots and would buy them again! Price is more on the high side but it's worth it.
Calf is teeny I can never close zipper
I used these boots for sea kayaking a few times. They're fine for keeping the feet protected from rocks and warm in the water. But I just have to live with the fact that I will never be able to close the zippers, not even a little bit, because the calves of the boots are so teeny it's impossible!! I wore the boots with the zippers completely unzipped. That just means more sand gets in. Took quite a bit ofcleaning at the end of the season - sand lodges at the bottom of the zippers. At first I thought my calves were just too large, but I tried on some diving neoprene boots later, and they zip up and fit perfectly. That's enough to indicate that these boots just have dis-proportionally small calves.
Great shoe, kept my feet warm in 38F
I bought these shoes for a kayaking trip along Lake Superior. Water temp ranged from 38-42F so I really wanted my feet to stay warm. I wore thick smartwool socks under them (ideally I think would be better with neoprene socks), but got the job done and my feet stayed warm. The grip on the shoes was also great for scrambling over the rocky shore while carrying a kayak. my calves did get a little cold at the cuff level of the shoe, but I blame the wetsuit I was wearing, which was slightly too short for me. A previous reviewer had felt the top of the shoe was a bit too snug, but I did not have this problem (I have long skinny legs though, so usually have the opposite problem). All in all, an excellent shoe, especially at this price!
Great Wetshoes
I have a couple pairs of these wetshoes, one pair that is regular sized for my feet and one pair that are oversized (one size up) to wear with my drysuit. Well made, very comfortable and a decent sole for short walks over rough surfaces. I certainly wouldn't wear them for a mile hike unless I really was in a bind. They are well designed for kayaking with wear patches outboard on the edge near the sole and across the ankle. You can still feel your foot pegs though the sole and for me, that's a good thing. The only other feature that I might like is having them a bit looser across the top of my foot with an adjustable strap to snug them down. It would make getting in and out with the drysuit booties on a bit easier. But, this doesn't detract from how much I like them. I am an NRS fan as all of the products I have from them have been great.
Perfect Partner for Farmer John Wetsuits
My first wetshoes were very good, but my long legs left a gap between my suit bottom and the tops of my shoes, so many shore entries left me with soaked feet for the duration. And while I liked them, their soles were just a little too thin to avoid discomfort on rocky ground. Our neighbor's dog solved my problem by stealing and mangling my wetshoes. These replacements have been ideal. Taller, and with side zips, they've been relatively easy to get on and off. Their soles are a bit thicker, so they're comfortable in all terrain. I've been truly impressed.
NRS aqua shoes
Awesome aqua shoes . These are perfect for shore launching . I just slide on the NRS neoprene socks under these and I can stand in ice cold water almost a foot deep for a safe and secure shore launch or landing . This combination keeps my feet dry and warm . The soles are super tough too . I walk all over cement/concrete docks and slippery rocks in these shoes with confidence as they grip and give good traction.
Great all-round water shoe
At first I was unsure if I would like the high cut of the shoe coming so far above the ankle and the use of a zipper, but after wearing the shoes for some time now I love them. first you don't feel the zipper at all on the inside. Secondly the extra height protects your ankle very well and aids in keeping out little stones and sand while portaging. Compared to the lower cut version of these shoes, because of the zipper the y are easier to get in and out of and there is less wear on the shoe. They do take a while to dry out but will keep you warm regardless.
Only if your ankle is the size of a small child's
1) Love the design quality 2) Whose ankle could possibly wear this? Not even Cinderella's ankle could fit in this bizarrely small leg opening. This is a common complaint - I ordered a men's to avoid this - not a chance. Way, way too small - did I say like crazy small for the ankle? Really NRS - get a redesign and make that opening bigger so one could actually wear what is otherwise a great boot. 3) Run's small to size. I.e. - women - use your actual shoe size when ordering a men's.
Happy with this choice
I paddle along the shore of the Chesapeake Bay and often land to investigate interesting on the beach. I needed something to protect my feet better than flip flops. These give sure footing, are comfortable even in warm water, and protect my feet. Perfect. The zipper is on the inside of your leg, so two zippers face one another. To prevent "clash of the zippers" there is a protective flap that closes over the zipper pull. It is a hook-and-loop "VELCRO" fastener. I think the fastener loop is about a half inch shorter than it should be for ease of use and full protection of the zipper. These slip right on and off when dry. If you enter and exit your boat in deeper than ankle-high water, you eventually will fill the shoes with water. That is no problem for comfort, warmth, or use. BUT, they really suction to your feet when you take them off wet. It's a two hands and sitting process. Not a problem, just be aware that you won't look super suave when removing these booties.
Must have for riding jet skis
I'm not sure if NRS had jet ski'ing in mind when they designed these but wow they work perfect of the river. I have a sea doo spark and do a lot of jumping around and the works, they have extra padding in the ankles which is perfect. They don't leave any marks from being uncomfortable like some other water shoes do.The grip is fantastic, and the fit is unbelievable, which is really important swimming back to your ski after falling off 100 times, loose shoes make it harder to swim and harder to re board. Adding this on here they are true to size according to REI's sizing chart but a little big I think if your looking at just the NRS chart. So I marked perfect for size fit (according to REI's chart)
