I don’t hike with my boots - i just wear my boots when i go to a job site to conduct inspections but can be on my feet for 10 hours at a time and walking around. I bought Lowa because they were light and extremely comfortable. I bought my first pair in 2006 that lasted me nearly 10 years. The only reason I had to replace them was because the soles wore out. Chaulk me up as a very happy customer! In 2016 I bought a new pair and after 3 wears one of the metal loops for lace ups popped out of the boot. i was given a refund and thought maybe I got a pair of lemons, no way I could have 1 pair last me 10 years and another 3 days. I got another pair directly from Lowa and sadly can confirm their quality has taken a dive. I didn’t even get 2 years out of them. A metal mount broke off after a year, there are holes at the bend points on one boot and the heel material split which resulted in the back breaking open.
I have a nearly worn out pair of these boots in tan/brown purchased circa 2012. I wore them hard nearly every day. They are still waterproof, not coming apart and comfortable as bedroom slippers. The bottoms are wearing flat from hard use as expected. Best boots I've ever worn, they earn five stars+. In May 2016 I purchased another pair in tan/brown and the desert tan color shown here. Both of them appeared to be made of harder leather / rubber and were not as soft when first worn. I took a chance and thought they would break in like normal boots. It is now mid-August 2016. I've worn both boots every other day and they have not broken in. I've tried soaking them in water and wearing them wet. I added a bit of Nikwax as recommended and that did not help. I even thought maybe it was my feet and did something to twerk my back. All my other boots and shoes fit fine, including the old Lowas. I even tried using a pair of Surefeet. Both new pairs hurt my feet to the point where I am going to return the one pair to REI and try to return the other pair to Lowa directly as I purchased at a local outdoor store. They simply are extremely stiff. My left heel will not lock in and moves no matter how I tie the boot. I'm at a loss to explain the problem. I firmly believe that Lowa has changed the material in the boots or did something different in the manufacturing process. Maybe I received two bad pairs due to some manufacturing defect. I am very disappointed as I was hoping for the same fit and quality. I've attached some photographs and would be very curious to see if anyone else has had a similar issue.
I have worn this boot everyday for two years and is still waterproof but the sole is showing severe wear and now about through the first layer. I have a construction business that takes these boots through mud and debris but most of my work is inside. I like the soles since they do not mark up the floors and it's not hard clearing the soles free of mud. They are comfortable even in 100 degree heat and in 20 degree weather. I live in the PNW and got tired of the local shoe company boots leaking and wearing out. The only draw back is that I laughed at for wearing military boots which they seem to associate with the color but does not bother me. I definitely recommend these boots.
I really, really wanted the Zephyr to work for me. It has the style, color profile, and features I was looking for. That said, the boot is too narrow and after a couple hours of around-the-house wear, painful. I tried lacing the boot in different ways, using different thicknesses of socks, and even trying a half size larger. Still, the boot was not a good fit for my foot. For a narrow foot this boot might be perfect. The boot that ended up working for me is the Asolo Fugitive in wide sizing. I much prefer the styling of the Zephyr, but as of now, wide sizing is not offered for us wide footed guys.
First time caller, first time Lowa buyer. I took my new Zephyr GTX's out for a short mountain hike through several streams of water and my feet stayed totally dry. The grip was great as well. So far I couldn't be happier, and if they keep performing like this I will be a lifer. I would prefer speed hooks at the top, but other than that, no complaints.
Bought these 2+ years ago initially for my job as SWAT officer and then started wearing them last summer when my prior hiking boots were worn out. Took a bit to wear them in, but once I did they were the most comfortable boot I've worn in a long time. Rough estimation, they were worn on over 200+ miles in the Sierras over the 2019 summer, worn for multiple SWAT operations monthly, and multiple training days. Never leaked, even after a year in the right Achilles area and completely wearing through the soles on both feet. Really only replacing them because they've become too slick on wet surfaces and I'm confident that another summer season in the mountains will do them.
I've had this boot for about 4 years now, worn multiple times during week for both recreation and construction work. Very comfortable, very light, waterproof, but cool on hot days and feet don't sweat. Not sure why there are no other reviews on it as I've seen them in the past on REI website and they are excellent. Soles are soft, which is good as they grip well, and only wearing out after 4 years now which is fine with me as a boot only lasts so long. I'm buying another pair.
I purchased this boot in 2013, after a great trip to Italy and Greece I began wearing this boot at work everyday, I drive a delivery van and am on my feet climbing and walking on all manner of surfaces. These boots rock ! No slipping, super comfy and lightweight, water proof for sure ! Was working in pouring rain and my feet stayed dry ! Yeah ! They breath well, and keep your feet dry in the heat also. I have been wearing two other, very popular, and well known brands for 25 years. I'm stuck on the Lowa boot for now and am writing this review as I purchase my second pair on line. This particular model is available on line only, my first pair I bought in store. When I went into the store today, I was directed to the website by a helpful salesperson. Thanks REI !
I was in northern California in a live work situation for 3 months. In the past, I lived in the wilderness as a kid hiking all the time for a couple years. I swore by Merrell but the mountains of California eat shoes like no other place, plus working with boots is a different story. I now swear by Lowa! I would put 10 plus miles of hard trails or so a day on top of having spilled gallons of water on them by noon and at the end of the day my socks looked clean and dry as if I hadn't even spilled water on my boots. They are comfortable and I like the firmness they fit like a military boot. They are hard to break in but once they do oh man perfect fit! I'm defiantly a happy camper!
Literally pulled out of the mail today. So far these boots seem a good, possibly better, option that Salomon Quest 4D (which can be tried on in any REI, these not so much). These have a leather upper, and are noticeably lighter. Tread wear will tell the tale. As for sizing. I tend to wear a 9.5 in everything. These I got in a 10, and are visibly shorter than a 9.5 in Salomons. The 10's fit as a normal 9.5 would, but those saying they run true to size are definitely wrong! I'm glad I called & spoke to a sales rep prior to purchase, or I'd have to return the wrong size.
