Necessary to protect your tent investment
Having purchased the Rattlesnake SL3 mtnGLO tent, of course I needed the footprint... I'm hiking and camping primarily in the National Forests of West Virginia. It's not often I come across a camp site that is in a nice grass covered field. Usually I'm pitching in a clearing covered in roots, rocks, and generally completely rough ground, making a protective footprint a MUST if I want the light weight tent floor to last beyond a season or two. It fits perfectly under the tent and attaches simply with clips to the fly. The footprint is much heavier than the floor of the tent and should hold up to years of use. In a perfect world manufactures would include a footprint with their tents, but I understand not everyone is going to require one. But, this one is lighter than carrying your own tarp, stays square with your tent, and packs up handily and simply along with your tent.
