I have this newest version of the bag in size Regular. I am 6' 165 and the regular fits me perfectly. I took it on its maiden voyage a few weeks before taking it to the Tetons for a 9 day backpacking trip. It performed very well and is very compressible and lightweight. Kelty makes great products and this is no exception. I've had little trouble with the zipper snagging and the draft tube and collar especially make it a great all around bag for almost any season. I wouldn't take it much below its rating of 21 degrees as it is 550 fill, but for the price and weight you cannot beat this bag. I'll be using it for a long time to come!
I have last year's model of this bag (which shows how terrible at getting around to writing reviews, but here I am!) and I love it! I was really undecided on which kind of bag to buy with a very limited budget and so many options, but I just settled on this one, which was the cheapest bag REI offered at the time. I was a bit skeptical, but this bag has never done me wrong. It's actually pretty lightweight and so far a year and a good bit of uses later, I've never had a zipper snag or any leaked down. I bought a separate compression sack for it, and I can compress it down to about the size of a cantaloupe. My only critical review is that it is rated 21 degrees, and while I've certainly used it in 21 degree (and below) weather, I had to definitely sleep with a few layers on and a hat. However, I'm a cold sleeper - but with layers on, I have never been cold in this bag. I think the coldest weather I've used in was 15 degree. I use it as a 4 season bag, and in the summertime in the Pacific NW, I can get away with sleeping in just my skivvies and it's divine!
Pros: Long bag good for tall 6' 4" 190 lbs. Packs very light and compact. Sale price was very good. Cons; Advertising and store display says down, but label says 80% down, 20% poly batting. I usually sleep on the warm side, but this bag felt way too light and cold at 30 degrees in high altitude sierras. Based on other bags I own, I disagree with the warmth rating on this one. Zipper snags a lot. I've had better. If you won't be in freezing temps and just need a 40 - 50 degree bag, I'd give it 4.5 stars.
Get dry down goose at 21 degrees this bag is an absolute steal. Don't be afraid, buy it. I slept toasty in minimal layers - just long johns top and bottom and woke up with frost on my sleeping bag multiple times. However, I didn't notice until the morning because I slept toasty all through the night. Even soaked a good chunk of the bag in a rain storm and it dried out without any issue. Personally, I'll be bumping down to zero strictly because a 20 degree bag in 30 degree weather means you still sleep in the fetal position so that your body is completely submerged. I want to be so warm in tempted to unzip the bag at night so I'm jumping down to 0°. However, that's not s knock on Kelty, that's just the nature of 20° bags in 20° weather and is true for all of them. In short, buy this bag. It's an absolute steal and if you curl up inside this thing your bag can freeze over (as mine did) and you won't even notice.
While there are lighter 20 degree bags, there are not many. Even then, you have to jump up to $300. This was just right for the money. I like to be very warm and was comfortable all night when the temperature dipped to 30 degrees.
we were looking for a lightweight bad that would keep us warm. Found it. Worked great in our tent during a cold camping weekend. 32 degrees. May not be best for 0 degree use though.
I love how light, and compact this bag is but wish it was warmer. Would not want to take it down to 21*. In my opinion it's good to 40*.
Warm with a good mat underneath. Light and compressible. Comfortable down to 32...could manage lower with layers.
