Our car camping tent was trashed so I bought this as a middle ground so we could use it for both car camping and backpacking trips since my husband and I are fairly tall and our dogs both weigh 120lbs +. I also wanted something fairly easy to set up as I’m new to backpacking and a little intimidated by tarp tents and trekking pole tents. I’ve used this once on a multi-day car camping trip. The set up was pretty simple and I was able to set it up and pack it up solo pretty easily. I slept in it with my two giant breed dogs with plenty of space to stretch out. It will be snug with my husband in there as well but not bad compared to most backpacking tents. Love how much you can see with the rain fly off on clear nights. So far I’m very happy with this tent and looking forward to using it on some backpacking trips in the future! My only cautionary note is that it is quite large/heavy so if you don’t absolutely need a lot of space I would size down for backpacking purposes.
I have taken this tent on two trips so far. It’s easy for one person to setup and very roomy inside for its size. On one trip, the wind speeds exceeded 40mph and it held up no problem; lucky I had it fully staked out. With the connecting hub for the main poles, it can be little unwieldy at times but manageable. My only complaint is that Marmot does not provide enough stakes and guy lines for all connection points. I’ve read similar review regarding Marmot and you’d think they’d have addressed this, especially since you are paying $300+ tent. Other than that, this is a great tent and well worth the $$$s.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Easy to put up and kept 2 adults and 1 child dry through 3 days of rain (with an extra tarp underneath). Love it!
I'm not typically one to write a review about anything but was extraordinary pleased with this purchase. I bought this a month ago and worked out perfectly for my most recent backpacking trip in Colorado. There was plenty of room for me, my son, nephew and brother in law (all 6' plus). It fit well in my Osprey pack, was light and very sturdy in some moderately high winds and rain. I did a ton of research prior to the purchase and am so thankful I did as it worked perfectly. This is my 2nd Marmot tent and will definitely purchase again in the future.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this tent about a month. I had done so much research on multiple different brands and types of tents and finally bit the bullet and bought it. Let me tell you how happy Iam with this tent. The first night my girlfriend and I stayed in it , it rained the entire night. We didnt get wet one bit. The following night it was so clear out and amazing to be able to take the fly off and have such an amazing view of the stars and sky it was unbelievable. Such a great tent. A little pricey but you pay for what you get. I hope this helps anyone else out looking for a semi lightweight tent with good waterproofing and PLENTY of room.
I bought this tent about a month ago, finally the snow line receded enough for us to camp in a good spot. I previously purchased the tungsten 2 man and it was perfect since then a great Pyrenees has joined the family and we needed to upgrade. This tent provided plenty of space four me, my wife and the the dogs. It even held up to them walking all over it, in every way imaginable. It had excellent ventilation, and was exactly what we needed.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This 4p tent was great overall. We were mostly dry except where gear or body parts touched the tent body. We used the footprint and rain fly. We spent 4 days in a downpour, Angry at the weathermen for a not-so-accurate forecast. Plenty of room for shoes and packs in the vestibules although we used a separate tarp for gear. Was a bit tight with 4 air mattresses but we got it sorted. 3 plus a dog or gear would have been ideal or 4 ppl that are minimalistic. Night 3 it didn’t rain and everything stayed dry inside. Only used on one trip and the mud washed out upon return. Good as new. I think I will hit the floor seams with scotch guard before the next one. Easy set up and take down.
I slept in this tent for 6 consecutive nights in August 2015 in Northwood, NH during Boy Scout Summer Camp. We had strong t-storms twice during the week and I was comfortable and dry the whole time. I used one of the internal loops to hang my BSA uniform on a hangar during the week to keep it unwrinkled. I hung a small Black Diamond Orbit battery-powered lantern from the center hook which illuminated the interior at night. The one day which I didn't keep the vestibule doors open during the day (because of thunderstorms) I did notice some light condensation on the interior...it quickly disappeared wiping it with a hand towel. I also have the Marmot Limelight 4P and chose to bring the Tungsten 4P during this trip because it has slightly more mesh (especially towards the top / roof) for better summertime cooling. It was a bit cooler at night (mid-50s) towards the end of the week and I was wishing I bought the Limelight instead lol. I had to make my own guy lines (from paracord) and use 6 additional (not included) plastic stakes to stake down the guy lines. I also tied some orange fluorescent flag tape to the 6 guy lines so that campers would see them and not trip over them. I also noticed that if you want to stake-down the included footprint, it's a tad bit small, so I created an additional loop of paracord on each end so that I could stake it down at the same time with the tent loops. The tent is big enough to have an extra large Mountain Summit Gear cot in it which I slept on. I also had plenty of room for a footlocker, backpack and other supplies. There was plenty of room to store my folding camp chair and folding 2-wheel dolly under the other vestibule (the entrance I wasn't using). I protected my gear in the tent by securing both tent doors / zippers with small key locks. Overall I was very happy sheltering in this tent for nearly a week.
I use the 4p tent for family backpacking trips and some car camping. We generally backpack with other families, and everyone either uses this rent or the REI half dome. Which is better? I'd go with this one by a little bit. - The floor is better, so it's easier to go with out a footprint. Add the footprint to the REI half dome and the weight and price are the same. - The vertical sections of the polls really do help to make the tent space more usable. The REI tent is slightly larger, so it's a wash. - The REI vestibules are slightly larger. - Both tents go up in about the same amount of time. - The Tungsten material, zippers, and seams look and feel like they are more durable. This is subjective, but I've camped/hiked a lot and have a feel for quality. I hope this helps!
We bought this tent for hikinging. 2 adults 3 children. We did our first 6 day hike then had to put the tent in storage because of health reasons. After more than a year of recovery I was was able to have our 2nd hike. We noticed that after only 2 multiday hikes the floor is not water proof even with ground sheet and the seam seals are falling apart. The velcro ties on the fly are falling off. The tent was dry stored at home so no reason for deterioration. The supplier offered to fix or refund. I love the size, weight and ease of putting up but I won't be recommending this tent. I will try another brand next time.
