MSR  Evo Modular Snowshoe Flotation Tails - 6"

Bought these for my son for Christmas. I bought old Denali shoes years ago and love them for blazing a trail through the woods for the dogs. The Tails are very helpful for flotation if it's a deep snow fall until we get the trail established. Good gear...

Almost necessary addition to EVO snowshoes, in my opinion. On groomed trails, you won't need them, but anything more than a groomed trail you will sink a lot without them, in my experience. Amazing item and very portable as they are detachable.

I had to buy, a second pair, the first pair, one went on fine the other had a warp from manufacturing and was EXTREMELY difficult to put on, when got back to my vehiclethe one was gone,,, couldnt return it cause i didnt have it. bought another pair and they work fine.

I'm not sure it can get much easier to add more 'flotation'. These tails clip on and get secured with a screw in about 2 minutes tops. I beat the heck out of them, going from snow to rock to snow and rock on the approach to Little Bear. I'm about 195lbs. and my pack was probably in the 45-50lb. range. I would get some post-holing here and there, but I was surely pushing the weight limit.

These floats are fine. Expensive to replace, however. Lost one despite making sure it was tightened before snowshoeing. Wish there was a better way to secure them since the means provided proved inadequate.

I love these. I needed them to support my weight last year and didn't have to buy some freak shoe to do that. Even though I'm much lighter this year, I can leave the tails at home unless I want to carry a pack!

I have two pair of older Evo models and bought 2 pairs of 4 inch and 8 inch. ((Now MSR only makes 6 inch tails). I just bought a new pair of the Evo Ascents but the older tails don’t fit. Also, replacing the straps on the older models cost about what a complete pair of snowshoes costs!

A little difficult to put on until you get the hang of it. Did add some floatation, but in 6-8"" of fresh snow and 220 lb load, they really didn't help appreciably. Worst problem is one kept coming off, until I eventually lost it. And you can't buy a single tail. I wish the design could be improved. I only recommend them if you really, really need that extra floatation, and you are willing to tighten them down so tight that they will be very hard to remove.

I got these to help keep my snowshoes from sinking into deep fluffy snow. I only need them in fresh powder that's over a foot deep but they make quite a big difference. The MSR system is brilliant and allows you to decide whether you want the maneuverability of short shoes or the flotation of longer ones. Also keeps the cost of snowshoeing down and makes my adventures in the snow all the more enjoyable.

I use my Evo snowshoes for doing laps on my snowboard. But some days the snow is deep, dry, and awesome. Deep snow makes the downhill super fun. But the uphill is a slog. These tails make it the slog so much easier. They attach extremely easy with just a twist of a knob. Instant flotation! Now I carry them in my backpack every trip up the mountain just in case I need them.
