Works with 29er
Since i could not seem to find a straight answer to my questions anywhere, hopefully this helps someone. The tow arm does have enough clearance with 29" wheels, there's about 3" clearance. The hitch also has a good bit of play and does not just lock up or snap off with vertical or angular changes, not that i really expect to be taking those kinds of turns with this trailer but it's good to know it won't immediately break if it does happen. The part of the tow arm that goes into the hitch is kind of a hard but flexible plastic. It connected to my Trek Marlin just fine out of the box. The unit seems well made and assembly was easy. The safety strap is pretty much unusable with my bike because the disc brake rotor gets in the way and rubs against it. However, looping the strap around the tow arm tends to hold the hitch pin down and prevent it from sliding up and out in the event the linch pin ever breaks. As others have said, when raising the trailer support bars into position, they are very stiff when fully extended which makes it hard to get the clips locked in to place but i expect that will get easier once it is broken in. However the unit feels very sturdy once set up. The wheels are easy to install and remove. It is a very tight fit for our 60 lb Alaskan Husky, and somewhat awkward. Height is an issue. Either the front or back cover has to be completely open to allow her to sit up and stick her head out the top, because the trailer is not tall enough for her to sit up inside with both covers on. However, when the front is open her face is dangerously close to the bike wheel. When the back is open, i'm afraid she would jump out because the "tailgate" is so low it's almost worthless. This would not be a problem if the cover zipped/rolled down from the top instead of up from the bottom and there was a way to stop and secure it half way, or even better if the apex of the frame was closer to the back of the trailer than the front, but unfortunately that is not how this is designed. I may try to rig something up that goes across the back as a higher tailgate so that it is not such a big opening when the cover is rolled up. I also wish it had at least one zipper or velcro pocket, i don't trust the elastic pockets to really hold anything without it bouncing out. The flag is a nice touch, but i think the reflectors are too low to the ground to be effective. I'm not sure what the point of the handle bar is. Why not include the kick stand instead of the handle?
Great Dog Trailer
We live a car free life here and enjoy travelling with our dog. Our dog weighs about 35lbs and absolutely loves his new cart. We use this cart at least once a week to take our dog to doggy camp. Plus longer, run and rides, where he runs along side the bike until he is tired then carts up for the remainder of the ride. We have had it for about a month now and it seems well built. It fits through doorways easily and folds quickly.
Sturdy but Smaller than ecpected
The good: it’s sturdy, attaches to my bike easily, and pulls along and brakes without a problem nicely. The not so good: It’s kinda short/low and my dog’s head touches the roof while sitting in it (he’s shaped like a Basset Hound, short & a little stocky, weighs 55lbs). The hooks to run a leash thru are plastic and the back flap only closes with a couple of clasps. My dog kept poking his head thru the openings trying to jump out. Also he typically likes to stand or sit while riding in the car but it doesn’t seem like he can comfortably do either in this. I’m gonna give it a few more rides before deciding whether or not to return it.
Works great, not big
Easy assembly, functions well, and good for city rides. I only have 2 issues: 1. The description states for dogs up to 70lb, but height will be a limiting factor before weight is. Our Portuguese Water Dog is only 4 months old and is almost too big to even sit up. This would be a safety concern, but I would recommend an opening for the dog to be able to stick his head out to facing away from the bike. 2. There are no shock absorbers on the wagon, so you must be careful going over bumps. Whatever you feel, your pup is going to feel x2 or x3. Would be very nice to have some type of shocks on each wheel so he isn't jolted every time we hit an uneven patch on the pavement.
Great trailer for your furry friend
Sturdy, easy to use dog trailer. Roomy and love the color and all the air window vents. Only wish the plastic windows were removable.
Love it! Great quality and
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love it! Great quality and easy to put together. My dog enjoys it and it’s been so fun to use. It’s also very lightweight so it’s super easy to bike with. Definitely would recommend this to anyone looking to get a dog bike trailer!
Light weight!!!! Sturdy, and compact
IT DOES NOT!! feel like you're pulling a sheet of plywood in a storm! Side windows are awesome. We live in Colorado so on cold nights I put a hot water bottle back there and zip down the flaps.
A great transporter!
Love the idea of the dog trailer. It's very accessible for the pup and plenty of ways to allow air through. I can't rate 5 stars though because this is the only size available and it's far too short for my Vizsla, sitting up, his head is above the top bar. Additionally, he likes to stand during rides, and there's no real way to buckle them in. I was able to use a short lease and carabiner, but because we have to leave the front flap open, he easily falls forward at stops or bumps. I'd leave the back open, but the only thing holding him in is a short piece of fabric. For smaller dogs, this is amazing.
Great Trailer with some functionality flaws.
I’m really enjoying the Tail Wagon because it allows me to take my non-athletic dog on bike rides big and small and it tracks really well behind my bike, no matter the pace. It’s also very easy to connect and disconnect the hitch to my bike. I really wish it had more sheltering capability; a full rain cover or a shading mechanism. I also can’t just unzip the mesh, so I have to completely pull an entire panel back if I want to expose my dog to reach him, pet him, etc. There is also no tethered leash inside. There are D-rings or something to use a leash to tether my dog, but I think the tether should be built into the trailer. Last, I think it would be great to have a variety of sizes. The Tail Wagon is much to big for my dog, and a smaller model would be more appropriate, cut weight, and potentially cut cost.
Dog approves
We love the this burley trailer. My pup is used to riding in one since she was young. Now that she’s an old lady it made sense to invest in the Burley to take her on adventures. Worth it! The only gripe I have is it’s a tad small. She has a difficult time turning around so I must get her comfortable before take off. However everything on the trailer is high quality. We even brought it camping for her to sleep in as it packs smaller than our dog bed.
