Skeptical at first but love it after using it.

Bought this as an upgrade over an older Yakima two bike model with the stretchy rubber straps. Now that both kids are seasoned riders we needed something that could handle all the bikes at once. Even though we are only a family of four I opted for the five bike model for some extra room, so please keep that in mind. When I first opened the box I was disappointed the rubber strap system was gone. I installed the rack on the hitch, put all the plasticky straps in their slots and tried to load the first bike. My 17" mountain bike really wouldn't fit over all the loopy straps so I took them all out of their respective spots and tried again. I was immediately annoyed that the straps don't/can't stay on the rack. After loading four bikes on the rack it is exponentially better than the stretchy rubber strap system. The bikes go on with ease and you don't have straps in your way that aren't being used. My youngest has a 20" Trek superfly and that bike doesn't fit on the rack the same way as the others, but it does fit. I'll edit this review to post a pic later but for now I'll just try to describe it. If you put the empty triangle area of the bike (between the top tube, bottom tube and the vertical tube holding the seat post) onto one of the two arms of the rack and set it so the seat tube is near a mount that has the adjustable arm that swings out. The very bottom tube will then go on TOP of the other rack arm. I've done it this way for years and driven hundreds of miles with bikes like this and never had an issue. My major gripe with this rack is that it doesn't come with the lock cable built in for the bikes on the rack. I get that it keeps the cost down for those that don't want it but it would be nice to see all brands stop nickle and dime'n everyone on things like this. Kudos for including the lock to secure the rack to the hitch but I will replace eventually because I have so much Yakima gear and I want them all to be keyed alike. So now I paid for an included lock core that I'll never use. Much prefer the older system where they made extra money selling you the locks and not the cable. Anyway this is my gripe so far. Great bike rack otherwise.

This is a nice rack - Yakima designs nice sturdy stuff. But in terms of fitting chunky mountain bikes it was a fail for my family of 5. No way you can get 5 bikes on this thing at one time ... which kind of defeats the purpose.

It’s great

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This particular bike rack has a large capacity, it’s extremely easy to install as it already comes pre installed. It feels extremely durable and holds in the bikes very securely. I will be getting the rod that goes on my bike to sit straight on the rack instead of being slanted I wish it came with it instead. It has a belt that ties from the tire to the rod of the bike so the steering wheel doesn’t move while sitting on the car while driving. This particular rack o my fits big bikes and not small children bikes. Overall I’m extremely happy with this bike rack. Disclaimer: I got this bike rack to try out for myself and give out my honest opinion.

Great for Full-size Mens Bikes Only

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] To start, this thing has some weight to it! It’s not cheaply made at all. The pin that holds this into the hitch, however, is tiny. The entire rack is held into the hitch using opposing pressure, kinda like how drum brakes work. It’s not very confidence inspiring. The rack will only hold full sized men’s style bikes. Kids bikes and bikes with the top bar angled down will not fit. This is a huge disappointment. The tilt away feature is incredible and easy to use. The built in bottle opener seems like throwing in one last item to pump up the feature list. I wish they would have made the rack able to hold variations of bikes instead.

Sturdy!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This bike rack is pretty heavy so I definitely needed my husbands assistance in putting this on. I love that it can tilt back so I can access my trunk without having to remove the entire thing. It holds 5 bikes so we can travel with friends in one vehicle which is great. The only thing I didn’t realize was that for the type of bikes we have, we did need to purchase the tube top for this rack to work for us(seen in the bike photo). My only complaint is that the decals are already peeling off as well.

This is exactly what I needed!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Okay, it’s awesome! 👏🏽 I can confidently and easily fit all bikes without the worry of them not locking right or yet alone worrying about this accidentally scratching my truck. It’s far apart from anything or potentially hitting the paint. I love how it’s so sturdy. I am so happy & can’t wait to use it a lot this summer for our family camping trips.

Easy install great for all bikes

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I actually had the 2 prong model and worked great for me and my family but I needed 1 more extra space and then this was offered as a claim item and now I'm super happy with this! It's good, study, let's me still have access to the back of my car. I will say, thin frames might get a little scratched I had 3 bikes on it and it was fine even off road. I think overall it's a great option for people who travel with their bikes and need something secure with an ease of mind. The installation isn't that bad if you already have a hitch but we didn't so hubby had to install that so it took longer than usual. I love it and I'm so excited to use it often!

Awesome 5 Bike Hitch Rack

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this item from Influenster and Yakima "free" in exchange for my honest review. This 5 bike rack is really awesome! It's easy to install and heavy-duty built with 150 lbs. capacity. I can easily put bikes on and secure them in place with the zipstrip straps it can with. Has anti-sway cradles to prevent bikes from touching one another. Love that the rack tilts down for easy access to the car's hatch. Comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Highly recommend.

User friendly tilting bike rack for a big crew

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Yakima RidgeBack Tilt-Away is a sturdy and convenient bike rack designed to make transporting bikes easy and user friendly. This rack can carry up to five bikes of many sizes and styles, making it ideal for family outings or adventures with friends. It features an amazing tilt-away design, which allows easy access to the rear of your vehicle even when the bikes are loaded. This comes in handy when you need to access your trunk or rear hatch without having to unload the bikes! I’m so excited for spring to be able to really put this to the test. We don’t have the hitch on our family vehicle yet but the installation process is straightforward, and the rack securely holds your bikes in place during transport. There are accessories available to accommodate specific kinds of bikes that harder to hook onto most bike carriers.
