Mad Rock Mad Pad's arch nemesis.
For the money, the Mad Rock Mad Pad used to be the best value in crash pads. Then Metolius came along with the Session crash pad and for the same amount of money, you get a lighter pad with more features and a softer landing. I love the design of the Session's hinge; it feels like there is no hinge when you land on it. Another feature worth mentioning is the flap that covers the bottom of the pad when it is folded. This allows you to stuff the closed pad with your gear and not worry about anything falling out. I love it and would definitely buy it again if I ever needed to.
Good in Theory
I have had this pad for close to a month now and have no legitimate complaints. It is lightweight and has a sufficient surface area as long as you have a spotter to move it to always keep it underneath you. The only thing I'm finding to be troublesome or slightly irritating is the process of opening and closing the pad. Because of the over-the-corner style system, after a few hours of climbing, pulling the canvas over the corner can become more laboring than you want when your forearms are pumped. The advantage to this style of system is a sealed off bottom when carrying it, allowing for a much more confident place to put you other gear. Not a deal-breaker, but just food for thought.
Small, Yet Mighty
Pleased with this purchase! Like the description states, this crash pad is small and light. It fits perfectly in the back of my wrangler, and gets the job done. Doubles as a great dog bed when not in use. Happy to be climbing outside! Expecting this to last for a while.
Ideal starter crash pad
I was hesitant to purchase this crash pad but it is great. It has survived a ton of use and abuse, been left out in the rain once or twice, and has taken tons of falls. No bruising, even for this old guy. My 8 year old kid can easily backpack it because it weighs almost nothing. Yeah, the closure/strap thing is weird but NBD after about 2 tries.
If you were a crash pad I'd fall for you
Excellent Crash Pad, perfect if you have a bit of a hike before you set up at your new problem.
Great starter crash pad
I bought this before my last bouldering trip. It's a great little crash pad. Took falls up to 10 feet into it with no problems.
Great Buy
Works great so far. Easy to bring in and out of sessions and travels very comfortably.
Excellent
I bought this to use as a small stunt pad for a low budget feature. It worked great! It was easy to move around and padded the falls perfectly.
Great pad
Very nice for any bouldering, it's light and easy to hike with.
Light weight and great price.
We've used this crash pad any time we've gone bouldering. It's been great for multiple locations. Spanish Fork canyon, Santiquin and Fish Lake. Because it's so light and perfect size for bouldering with friends. Great buy!!!
