Leather wore away easily.
I bought this pair of flip flop thinking the leather would last me a while, but I was kind of disappointed to find out the top layer of leather(one with the decorative pattern) wore away easily after only wearing the sandal only two or three times. I guess walking around Safeway and Leavenworth is too much for this pair to handle? I honestly expected better quality from a pair of $120 sandal.
Looks great, not at all comfortable
These flip flops look amazing and that's where the compliments end. They're literally the most uncomfortable flip flops I've ever put on my feet. There's footbed is hard rubber with no cushion whatsoever. The rest of the material is stiff leather which is abrasive between the toes and at the top of the foot. Honestly I'd expect something a lot better at this price point. The only reason I'm not returning them is that they do look great and I'd probably wear them out to a dinner or two, but other than that I wouldn't walk in them much farther than across the street.
Listen to the sizing recommendations!
HI. I just bought these. They look great and I assume there will be a break in period. With that said, definitely go a size bigger. I read all the warnings and still hesitated because I have a narrow foot. I wear between 9 and 9 1/2 depending on the shoe and felt even though i was told to try 10 that it would be too lose on my foot. 100% not the case. They fit perfect. Any shorter and my heel would be hanging off the back. I actually buy size 9 in sandals now that I think of it and these fit just like size 9. So, if have a narrow foot like myself, definitely go a size up.
Runs much smaller than other OluKai models
Concerned that they run small based on reviews, went to REI store to replace ~ 6 yr old pair same model -my favs. None were in stock. Measured against other OluKai stock at REI store. Got size ('same as always'). Ordered REI online. Turned out it's absurdly tight, and short. Measured against old pair, new seems slightly more than one whole size smaller. Obviously different in every dimension from an old pair of same model and different from other OluKai currently at REI. Thankfully REI returns are easy.
runs small
I own another pair of Oil Kais and these run much smaller. I would recommend 1 full size up.
Comfort.
Extremely well made and attractive sandals. But unless your accustom to a stiff leather braided toe post you will find these sandals can be uncomfortable if not impossible to wear for any length of time. I may try to fit a gum rubber piece of surgical tubing around the braid to lessen the discomfort of the braided leather between my toes. I guess I’m just a tenderfoot. For me this was the only drawback to these sandals. Love them otherwise.
Order one size up
Had flops for a month and absolutely love these flops. I did order size larger than I would normally wear, as recommended, and they fit beautifully. Leather is soft and smooth, and design work on footbed is amazing. I have already had multiple compliments on them.
Look good love the footbed
I just got a pair a week ago. These run small! I usually wear Size 13 Chacos which are a hair big. I first ordered size 13 Mea Olas and they were way too small. I held them up to my Chacos and the Mea Olas we’re almost an inch smaller. I ordered size 14 Mea Olas and they fit- they’re about the same size as my Chacos. I’m not sure if there’s a break in period for the OluKais but strap is a little stiff and is rubbing the top of my foot a little. The footbed feels great! Good arch support and I love the smooth feed of the leather.
Disappointed in these works of art
The sandals are absolutely beautiful, almost a work of art. Unfortunately, they are also the most uncomfortable footwear I've every owned. The toe thong (the leather shank between the toes) is oddly angled and has components that rub and chafe specifically where they attach to the straps. I always order my sandals a 1/2 size up and I might recommend ordering a full size up with these. I'm a 10.5 as measured and ordered these in an 11. I wish I had ordered in an 11.5. So, I'll wear them when I'm lounging poolside or on the boat but quickly switch into something else for walking around.
5 years 100+ Miles
I’ve literally walked everywhere in these. They are extremely comfortable and supportive in the arch. Toe strap broke on Father’s Day 4 years and 11 months after I bought them. I think the finally broke because of how many times I’ve gotten them wet. Purchasing another pair!
