This is by far the best day pack I have ever used and owned. It was so great, that the majority of my friends ended up purchasing it. We go on all day hikes 10mile+, in elevation 10,000ft+. This pack is able to hold everything I need for a long day hike, and more. I love Osprey products, worth the investment. I would say the only con about this pack is the side bottle pockets. They are really small. I think Osprey should make them bigger to fit a nalgeen bottle, or something of similar size. Aside from that, this pack is perfect. I'm a large frame woman, 5'9, 170lbs, and I got this pack in a Medium. Large was surprisingly too big. This fits me perfect.
I bought this to replace a pack I've had for years. I had two different people help me take the sizing measurements and both were the same. I was very excited when the pack arrived but my excitement quickly turned to disappointment when I was not able to get it to fit right. I watched the videos and, try as I might, the pack did not sit right on me and the shoulder straps cut into my neck. They are just too close together for me. Just to be sure, I loaded the pack and also had two other people try to assist me with the adjustments. It fit a bit better loaded but not like it should and the shoulder straps still cut into my neck. I really like the color, quality and features but, because of the fit, am returning it.
I originally purchased the women's version of this pack, but exchanged it for the men's when found my Galaxy Note wouldn't fit in the hip belt pocket. (It barely squeezes into the mens) As a woman, I am constantly amazed by the fact that people who design women's gear and outdoor clothing must not think women need usable pockets. Hate it when pockets are those tiny useless ones hardly big enough for a chapstick. Okay...off my rant. Even though I had to settle for a "mans" pack so didn't get one with a pretty color, I do like the pack. I'm amazed at how much lighter the weight of all that water, snacks and necessities feels. Years ago, I purchased the 50L version of this pack with the ventilated back, so was thrilled when I found it in a daypack.
I bought this a few years ago for day hikes and for walking to work in the winter. I've been impressed with how much weight I can comfortably carry. If I could change one thing, it would be the shape. The curved frame does present a challenge when trying to fit much inside it. And as another reviewer pointed out, the bulk of the storage space is at the bottom of the pack. I recently used the pack for a long weekend trip and found myself having to work to fit clothes in and extract them. Accessing the outside pockets required loosening the straps first. I'm on the small side (110 pounds, 5'4") and find I often cinch the hip and chest strap as tight as they can go and occasionally wish I could make them tighter to support the weight more. Despite my criticisms, I'm very happy with the pack. It's the first one that I've owned that allows me to carry weight for extended periods without getting back and shoulder pain.
I took this daypack on my 5 day Inca Trail supported trek. It holds a great amount, and stays comfortable. For the last 2 days I carried not only my own pack, but my daughter's kids pack inside, it fit well and stayed comfortable with the extra weight. The hip belt pockets could be bigger, but useful as they fit sunscreen, chapstick and hand sanitizer. The top pocket is a useful size, but to get a water reservoir in and out of the inside I needed to take everything out of that top pocket, a pain to do 3 times a day for days on end. The reservoir is also hard to get in and out with other items in the main compartment of the pack. Overall a great pack however. Very comfortable once adjusted.
I just got back from a trip to Peru where we did the Inca Trail hike (4D 3N). I had been searching for months for a pack prior to our trip and had a lot of trouble finding a pack that fit me properly. I went in to REI and the staff was amazing. The guy that helped me loaded the pack with weights, showed me how to adjust all the straps and took time to answer any questions I had. He was very knowledgeable and I bought the pack right then. So glad I did! Pros: -The mesh back kept my back cool and dry -There were so many ways to adjust the pack - it fits like a glove! -Lots of extra straps to attached equipment: extra jacket, hat, hiking sticks, etc -Waist straps with extra compartments - comfortable and convenient for keeping headlamp, chapstick, and other small things so you don't have to take your whole pack off -Water reservoir tube comes out on the sides of the pack and not at the top right behind my neck, (which really annoys me about my other day packs) so I didn't have to constantly adjust the tube. Slight difficulties: -Water reservoir is nearly impossible to repack if you have to refill it and there is already gear in the bag -I will agree that there is not as much space for clothing, gear, etc on the inside, but I was packing really light so this did not bother me too much I gave this 5 stars because comfort was my main concern on this hike and the pack did not let me down. Even my tour guide was impressed with the pack! He went on and on about what a great brand Osprey is!
I bought this pack and immediately fell in love with it. The aqua blue color is brilliant, as well as all of the cool "doo-dads". The integrated whistle on the chest strap, included rain cover and of course the handy zipper pulls that were so easy to grab. Unfortunately I fell out of love with my pack the moment I put it on. While I really liked how the frame kept the pack away from your back and allowed you to carry more weight, I couldn't deal with the actual shoulder straps. Not only did they feel rough, I could not get them to fit me properly. They rode way high up on my delts and even rubbed the side of my neck. Thinking I got the wrong size, I tried the next size up to no avail. Being that I have broader shoulders, I thought maybe I would have better luck with the men's pack. Nope. Obviously we are all different in body types and sizes and for that reason, this pack is not for me. It seems like Osprey needs to place the shoulder straps a bit farther apart on the pack or else this will ride up on other people's necks as well. Returned the pack and ended up buying another brand that works wonderfully for me.
I bought this as a school backpack that can double for day hikes. I backpack a lot, and most of my packs are 45-60L. I love Osprey and would rank their packs second only to Granite Gear for the money. Anyway, I love this pack- it's very comfortable loaded up & it has lots of straps for trekking/ice poles, bedroll, &c.- enough that I think I could probably actually use it as an ultralight on a 3-day, especially since I like to lash drysacks onto the outside to draw the weight downwards. The frame also lifts the load away from my back providing, great air circulation, and repositioning the weight on my hips. As a school backpack, it's ideal- a solid water bladder, an integrated raincover, and plenty of small external pockets for the stuff I don't want to dig around for. The stiff frame also makes it easy to carry a laptop in with my books, and bike without worrying about things shifting around or compressing too much. I'm very happy with the purchase, and I prefer it to the (similar) Manta 25 that my husband uses for the same purpose (he prefers it too actually.) It does not have a helmet pocket (as does the manta,) but I never use those anyway and always found the concept fairly forced. My only issue is that the stealth gray is actually a dark green. It's not a big deal or really even an unattractive green, but it is definitely not gray.
Product is fantastic. Used it on a trek in the Alps. Held everything I needed for weather from snow to sleet to sun. Loops on zipper pulls; mesh and zip-open exterior pockets for hat/water bottle/gloves/chap stick; pack cover to keep it dry in rain--all easily accessible and useful. Interior frame and mesh on panel across back are wonderful.
I have finally found a day pack that fits me perfectly. Everything about it is perfect - the size, the construction, the pockets and every other feature on it, particularly the vented back. It's cool when hiking and is so comfortable to wear. The weight distributes well.
