FAVORITE JACKET OF ALL TIME?!
The Ferrosi hoody has got to be one my favorite layering pieces of all time. It has kept me warm, dry and comfortable in so many different environments and conditions. While out splitboarding i usually find myself wearing this jacket all day for climbs, with a lightweight shell strapped to my pack for descents and colder times. I would always overheat like crazy when hiking in a shell, yet get too cold once i hit the ridge when hiking in a normal base layer setup. This thing keeps me hiking all day comfortably so i don't have to stop as much to add/remove layers all the time. It is also incredible in the summer too for backpacking, fly fishing, Mtn. Biking etc.
Best lightweight soft shell jacket
I got this lightweight soft shell just over a month. I've used it for ski touring, b/c skiing, mountaineering, and rock climbing. I've been very impressed with the comfort and durability of this jacket. I got this jacket in the bright red and love the color. For a quick sizing reference I'm 6'1' and about 165lbs and size Large fits me perfectly with a base layer on underneath.
My favorite soft shell
I love this jacket and their matched pants so much I own two sets. I use it primarily for summer alpine climbing and spring and fall rock climbing. I have pushed it hard on alpine granite and glaciated volcanoes, and while slipping through Utah slot canyons, and warn it sun up to sun down at the crag with excellent results. It took me two years to get my minor damage point on it. It does well in wind and light rain, and pairs well with a shell or puffy depending on your endeavor. It drys fast, breathes out moisture even faster, and didn't even stink after a six day traverse in the Olympics in which I wore it almost constantly. Its a great option to put on at the trailhead and keep it on all the way to the summit. The softshell material, while tough, is very flexible and moves with your form.
Great look and feel! Choosing size.
Just got this jacket delivered and was very excited to unpack it a few minutes ago! Hence have not yet tried it out in the field but the look and feel is great and I cant wait to use it for some hiking, backcountry skiing and some light paddling! Was a little bit uncertain about which size to choose having read some different reviews before I ordered and wanted to share my impression. I am 6 1 (186 cm) and 172 lbs (78 kg) and was choosing between the large and medium and in the end ordered the medium. The fit is great and I tried it on layered with a fleece jacket as well as with a light down vest and both worked great and still left some flexibility.
Great softshell
Wonderful jacket. I ordered multiple items from OR direct, but realized I was losing money everytime I had to exchange an item because it isnt free return shipping. I ended up ordering this from another retailer who guaranteed free returns. This is a SLIM/ATHLETIC fit jacket. It is about two inches slimmer than the same size jacket from North Face and Arcteryx. I thought this would be similar to my TNF Apex Pneumatic but it is even thinner and lighter. I couldn't find a ton of reviews on it so I put up a video for potential buyers. youtu.be/huFbMSCnsek you can really see how well it is designed and made, just make sure you size up if you think run between sizes.
Excellent Layer and Wind Blocker
Used this over my base layer on Rainier. Breathed well and blocked the cool winds from midnight until the top of the DC, when I had to add another layer. Very pleased with the jacket's warmth, wind-blocking, breathability, and light weight. Really liked the hood. Added nice wind protection and warmth and was comfortable under my helmet.
Sweet Piece of Gear
Fits true to size. Good piece of gear for outdoor activities. I find it to be not as weatherproof as if like my soft shell jacket to be. If it held out more drizzle I'd give it 5 stars. It does hold off for a good period of time but will soak through eventually. Use it for its intended purpose and you'll be happy.
Simple, light, breathable
I've found this to be a perfect jacket for moving fast in the mountains during the spring summer and fall. It is light yet durable, cut well and very breathable. I highly recommend checking it out!
Versatile Jacket for any layering system
I've had this jacket for about a year now, and have been through enough conditions to write a review finally. I've used it with a t-shirt in cool windy temps, 50-60F and it works really well, kept off light drizzle, enough wind blocking to keep the chill off during breaks in movement etc. I had it up in alaska in the dead of winter, and was a perfect outer layer during active use in temps from -40 to -20. When sized for a athletic fit such as would be useful for climbing, it accommodated a light down jacket and heavy base layer underneath, making it suitable for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, etc in those extreme cold temps. I did find a decent amount of sweat frozen inside the jacket at times, which could be easily shaken off, but considering that breathability is extremely hard to achieve in those extreme cold temps, I was happy with the performance. It will hold back the loft in a down parka needed to be stationary in that environment, so it obviously would not work as an outermost layer in sedentary activities in extreme cold. I recently used it as my primary shell during a winter attempt at Mt. Stuart in Washington. Temps were between 10 and 25F, with moderate humidity and light snow. The DWR, even after a year, was still going strong, kept the snow off. While trudging through waist deep powder on the approach, it was very breathable and allowed me to stay relatively dry despite the very hard workload, and cut the wind enough that even with only a silk weight base layer on underneath, I could take 5-10 minute breaks without needing to take my pack off and put on a belay jacket. Sadly the deep unconsolidated snowpack defeated our attempt to summit, but at least I was comfortable with this as my primary layer. So far I have had no durability issues, or pilling. Granted, I only take this jacket out for actual technical outdoor activities, it doesn't get worn for day to day use at all.
Instant favorite
This hoodie at first seemed a bit too lightweight, but when I wore it out on a run I realized it's absolutely perfect for high energy activities in moderate cool/rainy to warmer weather. It's easy to throw on when you're out on in the sun, because it provides perfect cover with the hood up, which is also nice not to need to bother with sunscreen. It crunches up super tight, so it can be in a day pack just in case without adding extra weight or space. To top it off, it moves with you to the point where it feels almost like part of your body. Instant favorite, well worth the purchase.
