I bought my tent in April. I was not able to start using it till June due to parks being closed due to COVID. I have camped 5 times with it so far and stil 2 more trips planned. It has been through wind and heat and cold and rain and hail. It has not disappointed me one bit. No leaks, stays put in high wind, hail bounced off. Plenty of ventilation for running the propane heater. (2 low vents 2 high vents plus the two windows) Plenty of ventilation for July camping too. I love the storage areas all over the tent. It is also easy for me to put up myself. Im 61 and find it a breeze to set up and take down. The rain fly is the hardest to place but I figured out how to do it fairly quick.
I've slept 5 people comfortably in it, tall enough for a 5'11 person to stand in. It is easy to setup in windy conditions and held up really well in a heavy rainstorm with gusty winds. No water got into the tent from above or from the ground. There are two zippered access hatches at the top to easily open or close the Velcro vents in the rain-fly. Easy to pack down into the carry bag which has two shoulder straps for easy transport into camp spots. The two massive side doors zip open and tuck into the storage pouch above the door making it easy to get items in/out. Lots of storage nets and so many loops to hang gear from.
I've had this tent for 4 years now and it's still great. We use this for when we go car camping. I mostly camp in Colorado since I live here but I used it on a 10 day road trip and stopped at Arches, Canyonlands, Lake Powell, Grand Canyon and then out to San Diego. It's held up in thunderstorms and hail. Strong winds will push it in a little but since it's dome style it has always pushed back after the gust. I got some parachute cord and extra stakes to make extra guy lines and secure it more when I think a crazy storm is coming. You can make some internal guy lines to secure it more but I haven't tried that yet. The big vestibule is great get your shoes off before getting into the tent when it's raining. I want to get some sand anchors or sand stakes for when camping in loose sand since the stakes that comes with it doesn't seem too secure in loose sand but that's typical with any standard stake. I wish it came with a gear loft. I like how the bag has a separate compartment for the stakes, poles, rainfly and tent body.
We bought this tent a little over 2 years ago. We also bought the footprint that goes with this tent. This tent is quick and easy to set up. We have used this tent in the Blue Ridge mountains several times, along with Grandfather Mountain, it has withstood 60+ mph winds and rain. It did not leak or get any water in the tent not could you tell the wind was blowing as hard as it was. I have been in tents where if you touched the side water came into the tent, this was not the case with the REI Base Camp tent. This is a very study tent. I would recommend this product to both friends and family. We have been very pleased with this tent.
I purchased this tent last season but didn't get a chance to use it this Spring, and unfortunately, we got 3 inches of rain! But I guess fortunately I had this tent! It was sturdy in the wind, dry in the rain, and stood true to it's name. I did purchase the footprint as well, but also doubled up with a base layer tarp with it, just in case. I didn't have to use seam sealer, as the factory seal held up with no issues. The vestibule was large enough to keep a rubbermaid box and one chair. The pockets inside added extra storage for my hats, keys, and flashlights. I am grateful that I had this tent in these conditions and not my old Coleman that would have leaked. I hope this will be the last tent I purchase until I pass down to my son in the future.
Recently bought this tent so minimal use. This tent is awesome so far. I am a single Mom with a 5yr old and I can pitch this tent alone in ~10-15 min. I am also short so it can be done without help or a step stool. Plenty of space inside and room for extra travelers. I am a minimally experienced camper so for all of those parents out there that may fall into that demographic this is a great tent! And I feel safe in not so friendly weather. I was torn between this and the kingdom tent, but after speaking with some different salespeople this was the better tent to be able to single-handedly setup and for wind resistance.
One of my biggest desires was to have a dome tent I could setup two cots in. Stand up in, and stay protected from on seems and elements in. I stand 6'3" and ws able to stand inside with no problem. I set up a low profile cot and a full size cot, and there is plenty of room for two cots. Only downside is an access point to bring power in unobstructed, however at the door entry this can still be accomplished.
We have a few backpacking tents in our family but were ready to invest in one large enough for a few kids and to use with a queen sized inflatable mattress when the back injury flares up. We call it the princess tent because it feels like a royal camping experience! The tent is fantastic. It is easy to put up and take down, has tons of storage pockets, does great in the rain and has a large vestibule. Since it is tall, it feels so spacious! We love that the entire top is mesh so that we can have good ventilation in the hot summer and see the stars, yet there is simultaneously plenty of privacy with the solid sides. We love this tent so much, it exceeded our expectations.
Purchased this tent last summer for our family of four. I'm 6'5" and I absolutely love the head room. The tent has a large front vestibule that makes it great for camping in no so nice weather as you can lay a tarp inside the vestibule and keep the tent dry with a welcome mat. We had terrible storms all night and the tent didn't move at all and compared to my boat with a high end cover that required a lot of pumping out from the bilge pump that morning the tent was rock solid and bone dry. Like a home away from home! For back packing I have the Fly Creel UL4, but use this for everything else.
The REI Base Camp 6 Tent is the best purchase we as a family have made. We have been using a 4 person tent for two adults, two small children and a dog. We found that with the kids growing we needed something bigger. The Base Camp 6 is perfect! It is roomy and my husband at 6' is able to stand up inside. The vents on top of the rain fly are great and allow a lot of ventilation that you open from the inside of the tent. The doors to the tent are huge and allow for a zippered mesh to be exposed for a nice half window and more ventilation. Lots of pockets for water bottles and head lamps. Set up was pretty easy. The first time we set up the tent was in Moab in the dark. There might have been talk of divorce but isn't that the case when a couple is setting up a tent for the first time? Our second try was fast and easy. The vestibule is huge with enough room to put two chairs in there during a rain storm. We liked the size of this tent because if we happen to camp at an actual camp ground, we will be able to fit the foot print along with the staked rain fly in with no problem. WE LOVE THIS TENT!!
