Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid craftsmanship, in & out. Please allow me to extol the virtues of the CC Pocket. Its in the ballpark in mass and dimensions of the 1st GEN iPOD. The construction is solid, my oops drop test of 5' met with just a scuff b/c the sides have a durable rubber band 1/2' around it and a "O" ring around the speaker. The speaker is loud and remarkably clear = no distortion. This is done with a nifty ant. that plugs into headphone jack. SLICK! Funny thing, I am not stuck to wifi "radio" limitations anymore. I look forward to Summer, the Giants and my CC Pocket. Thanks REI for a great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great walking companion I bought this to walk and listen to sports. My other very highly rated radio wasn't good. I had to hold it in my hand and turn it constantly for reception. I walk with this unit and in the pocket it goes, no need to do anything else. The sound is nice, not cheap sounding. I found it easy to set up, light weight, small, and cute! I like the toggle switch where I can have the headphones on still hear it without putting the headphones one. Toggle it over and then the sound goes only in the headphones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lighter and smaller is a plus After buying the Midland Solar/crank radio, it was returned within a few weeks. The C Crane seems to be a better match for backpacking. There is a lock so it does not get turned on inadvertently (Midland turned on with handling). Presets are a plus. Earbuds function as an antennae. Obviously a pair of backup AA batteries will come along, but size and weight will be less than the Midland. The severe weather alert can be set for 4, 8 or 16 hours if severe weather is forecast. The package seems well thought out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small And Mightly I wanted a small radio to listen to talk radio at night. The sound quality is amazing and esp. talk radio is extremely clear even at low volume. There's a wire antenna that comes with this if you need it; if you use the earplugs they become the antenna as well. I like the fact it's digital turning as others have said. I contacted CCrane about using lithium batteries in this and was told not to, it can damage the circuits because it's different than regular AA batteries (they can tech talk you through this reason if you call them). You can use rechargeable NiMh batteries, but it will not show full power on the display. (Read instructions or contact CCrane) Love this radio so much I bought the CCRadio 2E which REI also sells --great sale price right now. CCrane has brought me back to enjoying radio again. Great for travel too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a GREAT radio I have owned several other small radios and the signal reception and sound were no where near as good as this one!!! There is an FM station that has weak signal strength not too far from my home that some radios don't even pick up. The station is loud and clear on this guy!! Nice features with the AM and multi weather bands. Great size for taking camping.. This is a keeper!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good entertainment I would've given this radio five stars but I had a difficult time receiving wx on my last two backpacking trips but if your looking for a compact and lightweight radio for entertainment around a campfire after a long day of trekking than I would consider getting this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great radio, solid reception, good sound for size I've been carrying the Sony ICF-S10MK2 while hiking and camping (and around the house) for a long time. It's been a solid radio. But, this one has some very nice extra features, is even smaller, and just all-around out performs it. This radio picks up weather channels, which is convenient. It has a clock and an alarm - plus the radio has an auto shut-off feature where it'll power down after a set period of time if you fall asleep. For me, the digital tuning is really the most convenient feature. No more dialing and waiting for the commercials to end to see if the station you've landed on is the one you want. Plus the tuner has good sensitivity. Sound from the admittedly small speaker is more than adequate (dare I say surprisingly good?), with enough mid-range and warmth to not sound tinny or flat (as was the problem with the Grundig/Eton Mini 400 that REI used to sell). There's no stick antenna - a wire antenna is supplied that plugs into the headphone jack, or otherwise, headphones serve as an antenna when they're plugged in. Complaints? Nothing that's a deal-breaker. There's a very (VERY!) slight static in the headphones - but really only noticeable on talk radio (and really only FM talk radio; AM seems to have enough white background noise as part of the broadcast that you don't notice the static - that's how slight it is). Only other complaint is that I had to return the first radio due to a defective headphone jack - my headphone connector wouldn't seat in it the jack fully and I wound up only hearing through one side of the headphones (and with mega static, at that). Exchanged it at the local REI (THANK YOU!), and the new one works great. Thinking about buying this? Just do it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this radio I purchased this radio recently and love the size and easy to use features. I am visually impaired and I picked up on all the features quickly. The clarity and reception are fantastic. I listen to the radio for several hours a day and rely on it for information and entertainment.
