TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hate Current Design I own 5 pairs of the Sahara, the 5th pair being the current design. I love that I can buy pants in a 28" inseam and not worry about having them hemmed. I love the previous versions (I have 4 pairs in 2 previous but similar designs and 3 different colors). I wish there were more color options in the 28" inseam. But more importantly, the current design is lacking the small zippered pocket in the right front hand pocket, and the easy-snap button has been replaced with an eyehole button. The elastic waist has been reduced, and the fabric feels less breathable. Additionally, a zipper inside the velcro flap of the left-leg cargo pocket makes access difficult. In summary, bring back the old Sahara pants with more colors in 28" inseam!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable, but store not helpful So far I like these, but don't know how long the material will last. It's very lightweight which is comfortable, but don't think I'd use them for backpacking or camping. I originally bought a pair at the Tucson store where the smallest inseam they had was 30 which is too long for me. I asked the clerk if they came in 28 and she said no, so I figured I'd have to have them hemmed. When I got home, I looked them up online and found that they do come in 28 inseam which I ordered online. Then I was faced with a 1 1/2 hour RT drive to return the 30's or paying for return shipping. I emailed REI and they would not guarantee return shipping. I was not happy with that situation.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Satisfied I have the Sahara pants from 10 years ago, but now have wear holes, so I got the current model. The measurements feels odd, perhaps skinny pants are stylish for the teenage group, but I'm in my 40s. Functionality, ventilation and comfort are 100% important to me, rather than what teen strangers think of my pants on the trail. They feel tight in the crotch and thighs. There's a bunch of pockets that are of no use to me on the trail, because the pockets are not reliable, and can't risk losing keys, wallet or credit card. I do not return products as a personal choice. So this is my only way to communicate to REI the awkward fit of these pants. For the record I typically wear these pants with Ex-officio boxer briefs and the old REI Flash 65 backpack (grey model)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Pants - Excellent Evolution of Features I have been wearing a version of these pants for several years now. They are the most comfortable hiking/everyday wear pants I own. They are also pretty durable with the only issues I've ever encountered being a broken zipper (my fault), torn front by my dogs razor sharp claws (easily fixed with duct tape), and a chewed up belt buckle (also my dog). The first versions I owned had a sewn-in, narrow belt so the chewed buckle was a problem. The next version had a removable, narrow belt but I didn't like the buckle as much. These have no belt, so you can use your own, wider belt and they changed from a snap to a button closure. I will continue to buy these as long as they make them. I just wish they came in more colors for the 28" inseam.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Go back to the old design, PLEASE! I bought a pair of these to replace my 5 year old Saharas that where nearing the end of their life. As someone else has already stated, these pants are a POOR fit compared to my old ones. There is too much room in the crotch and backside, so much so that the extra fabric binds when taking long strides or raising your leg too high.Ditto on the button replacing a metal snap. I was so happy with my previous pants and these are such a HUGE, HUGE disappointment.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor construction I bought these pants about 2 months ago before going on a long trip to Alaska and Canada. The second time I wore them, the button fell off. I had to make a trip to a discounter to buy thread and a needle as no REI's nearby. The other complaint would be the inseam length. They claim to be 28", but are closer to 30" inseam. On the positive side, the pants are lightweight and great for hiking.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not very durable I bought these pants because I am 5'7" tall and most zip off pants are much too long for me. I normally fit a 30" inseam, but for some reason, zip off pants seem to be longer than regular pants of the same inseam length. These pants are one of the few available in a 28" inseam, and they fit me well. They also have a good assortment of cargo pockets, most of which have either zippers or velcro closures. The negative, and it is a big negative is that the seat on these pants wears out very quickly during backpacking. I think that this is probably due to sitting on rough granite rocks, but since this is frequently the only available seating on the trail, I expect that a pair of pants made for backpacking should be durable enough to last a reasonable length of time. I wore out the seat of these pants in about 2 weeks of backpacking.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly cut pants. It's unfortunate the REI stores can't be bothered to stock these in store. They have plenty of space for dozens of XXXXXL pants that never sell, but they can't spare space for a pair of this length in both colors. If they had I could have tried them on in store, found out they were poorly made, and bought something else on Black Friday instead. (discount wasted) The top half of these are from their regular length pants. So basically you have regular tops and short zip-offs. The pants end up looking like you are "sagging" or wearing diapers due to the overly baggy crotches tall rise, and short leg bottoms. The zipper run right across your knee when walking or kneeling. Properly tailored convertibles...the zipper rests right above the knee. The inseam says 28", but it's really more like 29.5". The leg cuffs are just straight tubes, no taper, so they slip under the rear sole of shoes and boots when you hike. So they don't actually work as hiking pants, and since they slip under your footwear and get dirty/muddy anyways, the "no-sit" zips quickly become pointless. Overall these pants are not worth the time or money. The poor cut ends up making these look like parachute pants from the 1980's. REI should shelf these things and go back to the drawing board. Except this time, actually make pants for a male with a 28" inseam. And not just slap short legs on regular-height pants.

Do you repair zippers on the older snap waist style Sahara zip-off pants? I had two pairs fail within 3 days of each other and I'm a bit bummed.

Asked by: Mike I
We recommend Rainy Pass Repair for zipper issues: https://www.rei.com/stores/repairs/non-fabric-repair.html

I'm a 31" waist. In between the small and medium. Are they a large, or a small fit? Which should I order?

Asked by: Marsdenbill
The back of the waist band has elastic for a comfortable fit and the cut is relaxed. Either will probably work fine. If you get the small size the elastic will accommodate the extra inch of waist line, or if you get the medium you may need to use a belt.

Can we get these in Navy Blue, need a pair for Work :) otherwise any recommendations on how to dye them blue?

Asked by: BretticusOZ
These pants are not offered in blue. Clothing dyes can be bought at craft stores if you wish to try yourself or you can consider having them professionally dyed.

How many pockets with zips & where are they located in the convertible REI pant.  Current pant, RN37429, has a tiny zip pocket inside right side pocket.  One pocket on back has zip. Info is unclear in description.

Asked by: Atacama2014
There are two zippered pockets. They are located at the left front cargo pocket and the right back pocket. The RN number designates which company made the product.

Do these pants have any moisture wicking capabilities?

Asked by: reichimp
The fabric used in the Sahara pants is a flat weave and is not designed to wick moisture, although it is very quick drying.
