People need to understand when to use what product
Here is the deal: Gloves are not priced on their warmth and these gloves do not claim to be the warmest on the market. What they are is a 15-35 degree glove that can be used in most circumstances, but not all. Would I use these on a spring day? Probably not. Would I use them when it is 5 degrees? Also, probably not. However, these are my go to everyday glove. I have used them night skiing when it is 15-25 degrees and they are perfect. They are very well built and I would expect to get a good number of years out of them. If you are searching for something that is super warm, these aren't it. If you are looking for a durable everyday ski glove, these are it.
Best Glove Decision Ever Made!
I have been skiing for 20ish years with about 20ish days a year. I have tried many lines with many failures. These gloves are 3 years old and still going strong as can be. I will not recommend anything else to fellow outdoor enthusiasts. They have been out in countless zero or below days and held their ground. I had them frozen up/rigid in big sky MT and they still kept my hands warm. Worth spending the money for the Hestra name. My only con is with the leather you need to keep them conditioned for peak performance. I buy the hestra cream and keep it applied about 2 times a season. I have had several people follow my recommendation and they have not looked back either!
Amazing
As someone who has always had trouble keeping my hands warm in cold weather I was skeptical that these would keep my hands warm on an upcoming elk hunt with single digit temps predicted. I am the Amelda Marcos of gloves having tried countless models and combinations to stay warm in Cold weather, especially when not moving much. I fully expected to return them after the hunt due to poor performance. Not the case. After a week outside in single digits and negative wind-chill I was impressed, they did their job. Well worth the price to be comfortable. Provided enough dexterity to do most tasks. I'm certain the Hestra mittens are even warmer if you don't need dexterity. Great gloves. Excellent dexterity bomber gloves
These are great gloves but you need to know what you're buying. They are not water proof, the are mid weight leather gloves that are as warm as your body will make them. They hold heat well providing you keep your circulation unrestricted. Keep the wrist straps loose they will not restrict blood flow. Also treating the gloves with a natural leather conditioner helps repel moisture not slush. Nikwax leather treatments and care for the glove (cleaning it) will temporarily water proof the glove. Do not let snow melt on them and they will stay completely dry. Pick your gear appropriately for your activity. With that said I've used my gloves consistently from 30°f to -40°f windchill. My hands stayed warm and never got wet. I use these gloves for winter backpacking and summits in the Whites Wountains and Adirondacks. I have no complaint on the glove and am very satisfied with thier range and fit.
Gloves from heaven
These gloves feel so good in every way. I can't comment yet on long term durability as I just got them. They feel like heaven on my hands. They fit my fingers perfectly - literally every finger is the right length. The leather is so soft and transmits perfect feedback and retains amazing dexterity. The wool/fleece liner is thick and insanely warm. These will come on and off your hands with no issues. I didn't get these for rainy/cold conditions, but after treatment with the balm, these may be fine in wetter conditions - I just don't expect it. My general experience thought, is that I will prefer something with a membrane and hybrid nylon/leather construction when it gets real slushy. But for everything else, this is the glove! Hestra is the best!
Great Winter Set of Gloves
Bought these before the winter storm in Texas 2021 and found they worked well to keep my hands warm. I can feel the difference of not wearing them when I would take one off and the other was quite warm. Those were the temperatures down to 5°F with the windchill below that. When I was outside wearing them, I was more active with walking and such. Can't speak for non-active wearing with them. I can see that they would also take a lot more extra care with the leather to ensure waterproofing and general care of the gloves. Can't speak for the ruggedness and how well they endure tougher conditions.
Warm for active wear!
When I first got these gloves, I was a little disappointed because I have a cheap pair of winter gloves that are warm as soon as you put them on, and these are not. My hands would get cold in the Hestra gloves if I was just walking around town. However, I wear them on hikes and if you are active and moving around, they will keep your hands plenty warm! Which makes sense, because they are basically cold weather work gloves. They can take a beating, and they do a great job of protecting your hands from the elements without getting in the way of your work. These gloves are great for what they were designed for.
Great Warmth and great dexterity.
Purchased these gloves after seeing some great reviews, both from avid skiers along with buschcraft campers. They provide the warmth I was looking for, although not as great as the heavier duty gloves (as expected), but what I love most about these gloves is the dexterity. I can (with some practice) tie my shoe laces with these gloves on, and even grab specific items from my coat pocket with accuracy. My only concern is that within a few months of owning these, the lining on the inside split. I will take these back in hopes of an exchange.
High Quality
These are high quality gloves. The insulation feels like it'll keep its shape and form for a long while, and the leather has a classy appearance and feels high quality. I'd say the gloves are mid-to-heavy weight, so good for active people in winter. If you're not moving your body much - say by riding up and down ski lifts in sub 20 degree weather, punctuated by 3 minutes of thrilling gravity-induced speed - you probably want mitts. For me these are great for cold weather hikes. The dexterity conferred by gloves means I can give my daughter a clear thumbs up or hang loose sign, grip a cold one during a break, or handle the steering wheel in my car on cold mornings - good all-American stuff. These gloves will last for years and years, and you'll feel like you've got a high quality item with a great feel.
Not for everything...
Very high quality leather and form-fitting but comfortable design. Not warm. Cannot use as my go-to for cold weather skiing. A little too bulky for mountaineering/roping, cuff is too stretchy to keep the glove in place and design is too bulky for adequate dexterity. I wanted to love these but you're paying for the name and look...
