Does exactly what it's supposed to
I have had this pack cover for about 4 months now. I use it to cover my Osprey Atmos 35 for commuting to work by bike everyday. I have used it in New England drizzles, sprinkles and downpours and I always make it to work with dry clothes. The elastic cinch cord keeps the cover tight to my pack and the attached stuff sack and small size makes it easy to carry when I'm not using it. Overall, it was a great purchase and kept me from having to buy a new waterproof bag.
Rain Cover Saves the Gear!
So thankful I purchased this rain cover before my recent Tour du Mont Blanc in the Alps! During our trip, it rained 3 out of 6.5 days, and this cover protected my gear. Some of my fellow hikers were not so fortunate... On clear days, I continued to use the cover as it protected my pack from dirt and wear during the trek. I especially like the small, connected pouch that holds the rain cover when not in use. This is helpful when attempting to remain organized on a long trip with other backpackers. Cheers to REI for this great product at a reasonable price.
Kept gear dry for winter camping
I bought this for my son to take on his winter campout with the scouts. It fit perfectly over his 30L backpack with a little room to spare (cinched tight) However, this 40L size did not fit over my son's 40L duffle bag that we also bought, so it is best to bring your gear to the store and try it out before buying. Like the attached stuff sack to stow this in when not in use. Kept gear dry for winter camping, but for most part, gear was only out in wet/snowy weather and on wet tarp during the staging of packing and unpacking for the trip.
Worth the money
Product did exactly what it was supposed to do. After a three hour rain my pack was still dry.
Keeps stuff dry when cycling!
I have used the Duck's back rain cover for keeping my backpack dry as a year round commuter cyclist and it is fantastic. I've added some reflective stickers for visibility, but I've had an older version of this rain cover for almost 5 years and the product remains strong and durable. I've also used it to protect my pack from snow and it has worked perfectly. I would enthusiastically purchase again.
Works well for a Columbia Titanium Mobex
The rain cover fits nicely over the Mobex framing and secures well. When stuffed in the attached bag, it fits nicely in one of hte exterior mesh pockets (which helps when it is drying out). I was not sure that I would like it, but it works well.
Keep your day pack dry
Used this cover in driving rain in Alaska walking to work several times in the first teo weeks and my pack and contents were completely dry. Easy on and off and packs into a fist size pouch. Thats all I need.
Good Value
Fits my large Osprey Xeos 58 snugly even when fully packed with extra gear attached to the sides. Haven't used it so far, but it seems waterproof. If you hike during hunting season, the color should help with visibility--although it's not the international orange.
Great product!
It kept my backpack full of books completely dry while riding my bike through the rain.
It works okay:)
At first it repelled water fairly well, but I push my gear pretty hard, hiking and bike-commuting year round, rain or shine, and the waterproofing failed before I was half way through the wet season, often leaving the outside of my pack saturated. Seems logical to me to expect a rain cover to be actually waterPROOF, as opposed to just water resistant, especially when the product's name is "duck's back," but many things that claiming to be waterproof really don't deliver for very long, sadly... Additionally, the cord stopper isn't strong enough; I ended up having to tie a knot in mine to keep the cord stopper where I wanted it. Not ideal, but it worked. Still, for the money it's better than nothing, and it does keep me a little more aerodynamic, so overall I'm still glad I bought it:)
