The Best
Flat out, the best piece of gear I've owned in my sixty-one years on the planet. In the two years I've had it, it has handled everything from winter in the Michigan Peninsula to a gale on Anacapa Island. The usable range is astonishing; anywhere from 70 degrees in town, down to a Sierra cold snap of 19 degrees, with only Capilene underneath. The Nano Puff has been in constant use that whole time; mountains, deserts, oceans, everything, and without even a loose thread. Wow. Let me repeat that. Wow. Please, make me some Nano Puff pants!
Great Jacket
I completed a two day camping trip to the Cohutta Wilderness in north Georgia in January 2016. The temperature was below freezing the entire time and reached a low of 10 degrees. I wore the Nano Puff Jacket as an outer layer garment and stayed comfortably warm. This jacket is lightweight and doesn't take up a lot of room in my pack. There are two generous size zipper pockets on the outside in which you can place your hands or small items. There is also a single zipper pocket on the inside of the jacket which is nice if you want to keep something warm by placing it next to your body. The jacket doesn't restrict movement and is very comfortable. I will definitely be using the Nano Puff on future cold weather trips.
Good Jacket.
Good Jacket - Primarily used for outdoor hiking, snowshoeing, etc. Great weight and packability. On the whole one of the lightest 60g puff insulated jackets on the market. Fit: I am 6 foot 1.5 inches tall and 175lbs. For most garments I fit into a size medium in the body but typically need to wear a size large for sleeve length. The same is true for this jacket - I purchased a size Large after trying on the medium. While the sleeves were long enough in the medium with my arms relaxed any reaching forward or above the head resulted in about an inch of exposed wrist/arm which was uncomfortable with the elastic cuffs. The size medium fit well in the body; however, the large is not overly boxy allowing for a down vest to comfortably fit underneath. The length of the large is perfect and doesn't ride up under a pack. If i happen to gain 15 pounds in the next few years the large should still fit.
light, wind-resistant, and keeps me warm
The first time I wore this my gf was a sceptical about if would keep out the wind, and keep me warm but sure enough it did (even though it was so light and thin). Its a great base layer, and stretchy enough that you don't feel confined. Great for climbing, biking, running, and everyday use. I say it does good by itself 28 degrees F and higher by itself, and any lower you will need another layer.
Great product!
Awesome jacket and worth the price. Kept me warm this past NYC winter (snowmageddon for your average typical NYer) with a button down and a light sweater underneath. The lightweight and flexibility of the jacket enables me to be mobile and agile as I constantly dodge lackadaisical and green tourists on my way to work by Grand Central. It also is so light and easy to pack that I can jam it into my snowboard bag or even into the last reaches of the laundry bag because it's that full and I want to carry everything in one trip. The color (nickel) and fit sometimes makes me look like a spaceman amongst the suits, but I know that I'm ridiculously warm as their inferior high collar jackets easily succumb to the wind. Four stars cuz the stitching along one of the arms started coming apart... but REI is awesome and replaced mine.
Great jacket, disappointing new fit.
Let me preface this by saying that I have a previous-generation Nano Puff and love it. I wear mine constantly and wanted to pick up another in a different colorway. I was really disappointed to find that Patagonia significantly changed the silhouette from my model year (a 2012/2013 model) to the 2013/2014 model. The new Nano runs significantly smaller than the old once. Where my original Nano Puff is a size medium and fits me (6', 185lbs.) great with room for a fleece under and a trim enough silhouette to fit under a shell, the new one in a size medium is incredibly tight in the chest and noticeably tighter along the torso. To wit: while I can do the jacket fit test (bear hug yourself and see if the jacket feels excessively tight or pulls anywhere) with no problem in my old jacket, the new one makes me feel like too much sausage stuffed into not enough casing. The large is still too big for me. Otherwise, it's a great jacket and keeps or improves everything that made the old Nano so great—it's light, it's surprisingly warm, it sheds light precipitation and blocks wind pretty handily. Just be warned if you're coming from the old model: the new one will fit you differently.
Excellent light-weight jacet for tall men
I own two of these (black & supply green). Very light and fits tailored. At 6'1, 260 lbs., the XXL fits trim. I can wear a shirt & T-shirt under it, or a shirt & thin vest (like a Nano Puff Vest). The best part is sleeve length - 37 inches from the middle of the back to the cuff. I normally wear a tall, although not sold as a tall, it certainly is. The black one is for social outings and the green one is for I-don't-care-what-happens-to-it outdoor activities. The supply green is a butt-ugly color to me, but the sale price was too good to pass up.
My new favorite light jacket!
I bought this product for a trip to new york city over spring break 2014 (Mid-March). This product went above and beyond my expectations for a light jacket. It is so light I barely felt it and it still provided warmth for the cool mornings in the city. I felt it was adequate for temperatures down to 40F with a t-shirt and would be find down to freezing with a long sleeve shirt. Overall a great, light jacket.
More than expected.
I have looked at this jacket for years, but thought this jacket was overpriced. This winter I started looking for a lightweight insulated jacket for casual wear and travel. After looking at numerous jackets, I settled on the Nano Puff. It fits well, is stylish, and very warm for the weight. I would not wear this during my outdoor endeavors, I think I would shred the lightweight material. Expensive, but I like it.
Great wind protection
I got this jacket as a christmas gift to replay my very, very old north face down jacket. I loved the jacket but was bummed to see the seam under the arm break. I had worn it quite a bit for a few weeks after getting it but nothing crazy. I went back to REI to replace it and was open to the idea of finding a functionally equivalent jacket that had an external breast pocket. I tend to keep my phone there and unzipping two zippers to get to your ringing phone is a small but frequent pain. I exchanged it for the REI Revelcloud jacket at the salesperson's suggestion after learning it basically had the same PrimaLoft insullation. After wearing the REI Revelcloud outside around town (during low 30s Portland OR winter with 10-20 mph winds) I was immediately disappointed with the wind resistance compared to this jacket. I had heard about the Nano Puff's efforts to be a bit more wind resistant but honestly I had kind of dismissed it as marketing. They're both mid layer jackets that performs best with a shell right? I didn't want to abuse the REI warranty but this jacket performed so much better in mild to strong winds that I couldn't bear to put on a shell every time I wanted to be out in the cold with the wind blowing. I knew the Nano Puff would provide so much better wind protection and I really, really missed it - even with the internal breast pocket. I ended up exchanging the REI Revelcloud for the Nano Puff and am happy again. This jacket just works so well as an outer layer that I don't want to have to worry about throwing a shell on every time it's cold and the wind is blowing (or my movement is creating relative wind). If I know it's wet then I'll bring a shell but for now, I'm just going to see how far this jacket can take me without it.
