Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shoe, no breaking in at all This shoe is very comfortable. I didn't have to break it in at all. It never hurt me even when I used it to hike/walk around for hours. It works great in snowy, wet, grassy & muddy conditions. The shoe kept my feet warm & dry. The front is slightly wider than other shoes, which were perfect for me, but it doesn't detract from the awesome design & look of the shoe. This pair looks great, is lightweight & provides the perfect amount of support. I would recommend it for someone who likes the front a little wider so that it doesn't pinch the sides of my feet. True to size. I normally wear 6.5 in regular shoes, but I wear size 7 in sneakers. This matched my sneaker size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy first time purchase This is the first pair of hiking shoes I've bought. I wanted something that I could use when not hiking, and for getting around in Winter in Wisconsin I think they'll be perfect. I took these to Glacier Nat'l Park for a 4 day hiking trip. They were awesome, did well on wet rocks, gravelly paths, up hill, down hill, and even ok in some snow. Even though they are waterproof, my feet never felt overheated. Paired with some nice SmartWool socks they rocked. I had to go a 1/2 size up from my usual shoe because the toe felt a bit tight, but it worked out great! I would get more shoes from Ahnu again, they have a narrow heel and not very pronounced arch, which fits my feet well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from quite happy My first pair of hiking shoes. As someone who wears minimalist footwear 90% of the time, I realized I needed more traction for hiking. While wearing "this much shoe" takes getting used to, I love the grip and stability for hiking. I wore them walking for a total of ~4 miles before taking them on a weekend hiking trip where I put another 10 miles on them blister free. But I am glad I did the short break-in time. Stepped in a very deep mud puddle and would have been completely dry had the mud not come over the top of the shoe. Cute color and I the low profile is supportive enough.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super comfortable footbed but too hot for my feet I bought these about 5 weeks ago after an exchange of the black ones that were too stiff for me to get used to. They are waterproof but I do not think they are breathable. My feet were constantly too hot and then cold and clammy which has always been my indicator that they do not breathe well. I like the non-water proof ones I got earlier in the season much better . Otherwise the sizing, comfort and looks were great. I will probably search for another but not in the waterproof unless it specifically states "breathable" I am going to return them and get something else .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Add me to the long list of fans I bought these the day before I left on a three week trip to Russia when it occurred to me that I would need waterproof footwear. Wow! They are SO great! I was walking all day most days, in cities and out in the country, on dry days, pouring rain days, warm days and cold days. No breaking in necessary, just pure comfort all the time. They fit true to size for me; I bought a size up because I wore wool socks. I wish they were the turquoise color pictured; they really are a dark teal. I'm looking forward to wearing them on a walking trip in Japan next year: 900 miles of walking with a light pack on all kinds of terrain. I think they'll work just fine.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Comfortable light hiker, manufacturing shortcuts The boots are comfortable, with a nice snug fit through the body, and plenty of toe room. There may be a little too much room in the heel for me, and there's some slip, but nothing an extra pair of socks won't solve. I don't think it'd be a good idea to trust these shoes on longer hikes, though. Three days after I bought a pair of sugarpines, the heel loop ripped out. It appears to have been glued into place, not securely stitched. This seems like a weird thing to go wrong to me -- I've laid down thousands of trail miles in Merrells and Montrails, walked right through a good dozen pairs of boots, and never had this issue. Ahnu was not much help. These are nice, stylish shoes for walking around town or for short trails. The manufacturing quality is somewhat questionable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow, these are great shoes I was looking for a pair of hiking shoes this time as I am going to Panama and wanted them to double as street shoes to minimize packing. I have destroyed my arches, and these were the only pair that comfortably accepted my orthotics and are deep enough to not have heel slipping. I took them on what turned out to be a long and steep hike, trekked through water several times, and wow, these are just so comfortable. I was impressed by how much grip they have for a "light hiker" shoe and they seem very well made. All in all very happy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Liked it a lot, didn't love it. As the other reviewers have stated, this is an extremely comfortable shoe that would most likely not require a break-in period. I think they would be good for light trail use, parks, travel, and around town. They just didn't have enough structure or support for serious day hiking in my opinion. They ran a full size smaller than I'm used to, being too short in the toe box and were a little too roomy in width. I was exited by the turquoise blue color, but the actual color is a dark teal green. Two other items that might be important to note are the laces are too short for a good double knot, and the tongue is unusually short which would allow debris inside the shoe based on terrain. If I was looking for a comfy everyday shoe, this would be good. If you want to really hike, try something else.

I am looking for a show to hike through trails where there are river crossings.  Will these work or the SugarPine mesh? Thanks

Asked by: btrubs
These shoes will not keep your feet dry if your foot is completely submerged. You might consider removing the shoes and sock and wearing sandals for the crossing. The SugarPine Air Mesh will dry faster if wet.

Do these shoes have insoles that can be taken out so that I can put my own in? Is it a good idea to get half a size bigger in hiking shoes than you usually wear because your feet swell up a bit with hiking?

Asked by: Margarita
Yes, these shoes have removable insoles. If you plan to use custom or OTC insoles and find your feet noticeably swell while hiking then buying a half size up from your normal size is a good idea.

I need a wide shoe. How much width is there in this shoe, or does it come in a wide width

Asked by: julie123
These shoes run true to size and they do not run wide. They are a standard B width and are not available in wide sizes.
