Small Car Perfect.

I used the Saris Bones 2- Bike Trunk Rack to drive 2,000 miles from Denver to Orlando with my tiny 1991 Mazda Miata. The Bones rack worked perfectly. It never budged, shifted, or otherwise made me worry. The bicycle was a bulky square tubed Trek DS-2. I recommend putting felt down where the rack’s feet touch the bumper and trunk as it did visibly buff the paint. I had to get into my trunk 3 times on the trip, and each time was able to quickly remove and remount the bicycle rack and bicycle. I highly recommend this. My peak speed (unintentionally) was briefly 80mph with no adverse effects.

Not a good fit on 2012 Prius

While the Saris site says this will work on a 2012 Prius I disagree. First the included instructions recommend placing the lower feet on the top of the bumper but in that position the upper/3rd arm cannot be positioned over the rear glass. Their on-line fit advice (and their phone customer service) says to place those feet against the license plate - but the printed instructions say that's a bad idea. A bigger problem is that the metal hooks for the side straps do not fit securely around the edge of the Prius hatch. I also find the plastic straps used to secure the bike to the rack are hard to use and way too long. "REIService" has two posts saying it will work - I relied on that as well. Not true in my experience.

great for Corolla

We purchased this bike rack at REI for our daughter heading to college in a few months. Our local bike dealer, Richardson Bike Mart, told us about the model based on her vehicle, Toyota Corolla 2009. She and a friend used it to carry their bikes on our camping trip last weekend and it worked great. She uses a few velcro straps to keep tires from moving and stabilize between bikes. We had lots of wobble until we watched an instructional video and saw how to attach the stabilizer fastener first and then the other one, then everything was solid. I'm so glad we heard of this simple but well made rack, I'm confident it will serve her well in college and beyond.

STRAPS FAILED

The top two rack straps failed simultaneously while I was on the freeway. This was at the beginning of its third season of use. Luckily, our bikes did not hit the road. But we had to quickly remove our front wheels and stuff our bikes into our trunk, all while our baby cried and cars zoomed by at 70mph. Not a good time. The straps should last more than 2 years, especially at this price. When I contacted Saris, they said the straps weren't covered by their lifetime warranty and refused to do anything to make it right. Bad product, bad company. Don't buy this.

Worth the investment

I got back in riding last year, but was scratching up my car, pretty badly, because i was putting it inside the car before and after each ride. I was doing a lot of research, and this brand kept coming up, bht the price was a little steep for my newly graduated budget. I wanted something that would be durable, safe and easy to set up, and the rope ones werent doing it for me, so i saved up and bought this one and i am glad that i did. It was pretty simple to set up and i have zero concern that it or my bike will fall off, and it is so easy to put my bike on and take it off. 4 stars because of the high price, but again, worth every penny.

Great Bike Rack

REI associate helped me pick this. Assured me it was perfect for what I needed, and it was. First bike rack I ever bought. I only use this to transport 2 bikes from Philadelphia to NJ beaches (~75 miles / 1 hr 30 min drives). This rack was perfect for my 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL Premium SUV. Initial install took a little white to position the arms in the proper spots. But then attaching the hooks and tightening them was fairly easy. We used 2 additional bungees to secure it even more. The straps can get really tight and keep everything completely secure. In a span of 10 days I used this to transport 2 bikes on 3 separate 1 hr 20 min drives. Took major highways and everything was fine (just drove a little slower than usual). Between trips I just kept the bike rack arms as is and did not fold them flat so that install was easy for the next trip and the arms were already in the correct position. Then folds flat for easy storage.

Works great!

We originally wanted a hitch-based bike rack but were unable to get a hitch put on our car in time for our cross-country trip, so we nervously purchased this rack for an 1800-mile drive from NY to CO. And it worked great! It took a little bit of practice to get used to putting it on and aligning everything optimally, but it was easier than I thought it would be and it didn't budge once it was on -- and we drove at high speed on highways even through rain and snow. It's slightly annoying you have to take it off in order to open your trunk, but there's no way around that with a trunk-based design. (For reference we have a Subaru Outback and it fit well.) Would definitely recommend if you are looking for this type of rack.

Broke

Got this rack in the winter time for Christmas. Went to use it for the third time this summer and the plastic straps to actually hold the bike on broke completely off and my bike fell off while driving. Tried to get in contact and heard nothing back. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

Great Product

The Saris Bones 2 works!! This bike rack is easy to install and stays put. The only trick is that you be able to read. The strap hooks are labeled Upper, Lower and Side so, be sure to place them where indicated. I have driven three times going 55+ mph and have had no issues.

Durable& Great for hauling 2 bikes.Best for sedans

I have owned this 2- bike rack for about 5 yr,using it to load 2 bikes averaging twice per mo.use(locally), first on a Lexus sedan then on a Lexus 450 SUV.The very rugged plastic limbs, base & attaching belts are very durable& securing bikes is generally easy. The 6 strap hooks, which are labelled, easily slip around trunk edges. The suv requires opening the back gate& is a little trickier to secure, but basically no big deal. Lightweight when it comes time to store. An excellent value!
