I Love This Bike!
My sister purchased this bike (21 speed but has returned it for a 7 speed since the chain kept coming off) and once I tried it, I also ordered one as well as my sister in law. Saturday we picked up my bike and the 3 of us headed out with our new townies for a 3 hour bike ride. This bike is awesome! Its very classy looking and I love how smooth it rides. I had no problem changing gears to accommodate the type of area we were riding on. The accessories were readily available and I added a rack, water bottle holder and cell phone holder (on the handlebars). Can't wait to go riding again!
love my new bike!
I bought this bike a month ago. I have always had a bike with no speeds and coaster brakes, as I have arthritic hands and trouble when there are too many speeds. However, this bike has 7 speeds and the hand brakes are easy to use. I love my bike as I now have osteoarthritis in my left knee and cannot ride my old bike (hurts too much). This bike is easy to get on and off and does NOT bother my knee at all. The speeds are easy to use and help when you have hills to go up, so pedaling is easier. If you have these problems go try one out. I LOVE MINE! Thank you Cleveland REI staff especially Paul who helped me decide.
Great bike to see the sights!
This is a great bike for someone who just wants to ride and casually take in the sights. Just wish the whole picking up the bike was as easy. First it arrived in the wrong color from what I ordered ( not the stores fault) but when I picked up the correct one my emails told me I could have help setting it up for me and adding anything I purchased onto it. I know they are swamped with the anniversary sale but no one told me all of those things or apologized that they were too busy. I know I am being nitpicking but to me this is a big purchase. Not like the expert help I had when shopping for it.
I was told I’d never be able to ride a bike
This bike is an actual dream come true, I was born with cerebral palsy. I grew up seeing all the other kids able to ride a bike and me sitting on the sidelines holding back tears because I couldn’t ride. Fast forward 30 years later I was introduced to the Townie. This bike was the only one able to be modified with adult stabilizers and one that I could get my leg over successfully all by myself. Being able to ride a bike is so exhilarating, very freeing. I’ve never experienced anything quite like it. I’m now up to riding 26 miles on a rail to trails paved route in my city. Riding does the heart good and puts the biggest smile on my face. So don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t and don’t tell yourself that because anything is possible
Excellent Bike
I was diagnosed with a form of neuropathy that makes riding bikes very difficult. I also wear out very easily. I tried a Schwinn from a local chain store, but I couldn't ride it without having extreme pain as well as only being able to go short distances. I was recommended to try an Electra Townie. Well, the frame design and ease of use allows me to ride a bike finally! I can do 7 miles and not feel pain or have weakness. I was able to lose weight which is also hard to do with my condition. Truly a bike that is helping me. Thank You, Electra Townie!
Be "At One" with your Electra Townie 7D
At the time of buying this bike and writing this review, I am a gal who is almost 65 but have always been a bike rider and own multiple bikes. The Townie had not been something that interested me although I see lots of folks riding them in my beach oriented area. Something sparked my curiosity and because I had member reward $$, I decided to purchase one after test riding. I can honestly say that the bike has really surprised me. It is just simple, relaxed and comfortable. You really feel like you are "at one" with the bike rather than riding "on top" of the bike. The foot forward geometry and the handlebars just all work to create a very comfortable and nimble feel. The 7 gears are easy to use and enough for anything this type of bike should tackle. The 26 inch wheels and wider tires just help to make the bike feel secure and smooth. The wide seat (which is something I usually do NOT prefer), is actually quite comfortable. I have had the bike out on a 15 mile rail trail, (asphalt and packed stone) and really enjoyed it. It is now my bike of choice for our local neighborhood nightly ride. Because of the geometry, it is not a good hill climbing bike, but certainly ok for the occasional hill on a ride. So, all in all, the Electra Townie is a very simple, enjoyable bike to ride and definitely something to especially recommend to someone getting back in to bike riding after a long hiatus. Bonus...super fun colors!!!
Love love my bike!
I absolutely love my bike! It’s a wonderfully comfortable cruiser. 7 gears is amazing and the seat bounces just a little bit to give a smoother ride. If you want a really comfortable upright position on a bike to just meander the neighborhood or the boardwalk, this is the bike!
Awesome Bike for Paved Roads
My wife wanted to buy this while we were shopping at REI. We tried a couple bikes and this one was perfect for her. Great design, lightweight, smaller grip to break distance as she has smaller than average hands for a woman and comfortable seating. This is definitely a casual bike (it's called Townie for a reason) that should only be ridden only on paved roads as there are no shock absorbers. We both went on a 3.5 mile bike ride around one of the lakes around here, paved trail of course, and both had a wonderful time without any hiccups.
Love riding my bike!
I purchased the orange Electra Townie a few years ago at the Lynnwood, Washington REI to replace my previous bike because I wanted a bike that I could easily place my feet on the pavement when I stopped. This bike is fun to ride, and almost each time I am out riding, someone will comment about this cute bike. I bought the matching orange wire basket, too.
Quality Product
Great well made comfortable bike. Have cycled 100 miles since 4/26 the first ride after purchase
